NaNoWriMo 2016

It's coming up to that time of year again! National Novel Writing Year is where millions of crazy creative writing types decide that this month they are going to write 50,000 words of fiction in just 30 days. That breaks down into a word count goal of 1,667 words a day.

2016 will be my eleventh year participating and I'm hoping for my eleventh win. It has been years since I was this excited to take part! The past four years I was studying screenwriting during November and somehow that just put a damper on writing for fun on top of classwork. But that part of my life is over now and I'm so keen to get into a new writing project. My novel for this year is tentatively titled Champion, a piece centric around body image aimed at a YA/LGBT market.

I've heard of this and would love to participate! I have a good idea for a story, but 50000 words is a lot to write in only 30 days! I don't tend to have time for that, but you have inspired me to attempt this daunting challenge

I tried writing stories in the past, but never could get past a chapter's worth. I prefer to be the reader I guess

I'd participate, but there's no way I can write a novel in about a month. The last time I attempted to write a novel, I got up to 9 chapters in a span of 5 or 6 months, before I lost motivation. lol

I'm planning to attempt it this year, since I've never gotten very far with NaNoWriMo before. My novel is a retelling of the myth of Hades and Persephone.

If I manage to finish it, that'll be my excuse to do the massive edits and rewrites that I know will be necessary to make it readable, lol.

Gah. I took a creative writing class in high school a few years ago. It was such an amazing class and such an amazing experience. I grew so much as a writer. during that one year.. Unfortunately I stopped writing after that class ended... I used to contemplate about writing a novel with the main character suffering from a certain mental disorder. Throughout their journey they would eventually overcome or succumb to it at the end. I feel like a tragedy might have more of an impact though. I would still like to maybe one day write that novel. But I don't think I'm going to participate due to lack of skill and time. Regardless, good luck to all of you who do end up participating this year!

You don't experience to participate! It's actually a great way to gain experience. I took part my first time when I was 14 and have done it every year since. No one needs to see your final piece except you.

It personally takes about 30-45 minutes out of my day. Going to be a struggle this year between exams, extracurriculars, and other events I have planned but oh well I'm still psyched!

I love the whole idea around this. I would love to do this but if I'm gonna begin somewhere, i'll begin at the beginning of next month. I'm use to writing poems and short stories but a 50,000 word novel, this is gonna be fun. I already have an idea and it's very dark due to my passion for dark literature. Is there like an android app for this website?

Wow, 50,000 words is a lot! I think this is the first time hearing about this. It's quite likely that I won't participate haha...I guess I'm a good writer, but I don't know how the heck I'm gonna write something that's 50,000 words in thirty days lol.
