Is anyone doing the traditional New Years Reset? I remember this being a thing with New Leaf.
For those who dont know what it is, you delete your save data and start a new island on January 1, then play through the game day by day for a whole year. It can be fun to keep a journal of your year's progress as well.
People see this as a good opportunity to start anew and see what they can accomplish in a year's time.
I dont remember all of the rules, but I think it was traditionally done without time travel, so you can experience each day one at a time throughout the year. (But I doubt anyone in this lovely community would give you a hard time if you really wanted to time travel). I think some people bring items from their old files and others do this as a 100% fresh start. There were other things too, such as "I wont use amiibo", "I wont trade with others or buy items from the mb except for color variations I cannot get otherwise," "etc etc".
I say make your own set of rules for the New Years restart that will allow you to have the most fun. I'm not sure if I'm going to do this myself yet or not, but wanted to see if others were already making plans for jumping into this tradition.
I won't. I like that my island's start date is the date the game released without time travel. Considering there are still going to be updates coming for the game next year, I value going through the game and experiencing all the new stuff next year with my first original island more than I do starting over.
I did that quite often in New Leaf, except it was at the peak of my resetting so I had the mindset of just starting fresh. I probably won't be doing it this year since I want to keep building up my island, and I've told myself not to reset until I've gotten all the Nook Miles achievements and have reached a standstill with my decorating.
to my knowledge the new years reset in NL became more popular as time went on, since more people were starting to reset as opposed to still being in the middle of gameplay. in the future it's likely I'll do it but for now, I'm going to stick with what I've got! I still like the idea of it though.
I likely will never reset, but if I did I'd probably wait until the game reaches the end of updates and I get everything. That's gonna be years down the line though lol
I won't say never, but it's highly improbable that I would ever reset, as I always manage to find a way to create projects for myself to keep busy. For me, the freshness of a new thing only lasts for so long, and I find a lot of joy in continuous refinement.
I'll never reset. I've played the game daily since it was released and put a bunch of time into my island. Resetting would not only get rid of all of that, it would destroy all motivation I have to play New Horizons.
What I’ll probably end up doing (if I do anything) is a new-years flattening, so I can try to terraform it into something more unique. I don’t think I want to reset fully right now.
I don't think I'll reset at this point. I've got things how I like them. I might do something in honor of New Year's though, like switching an island's path from custom to an in-game stone path. I've been thinking about doing this but haven't wanted to spend the time it would take to re-path the entire island.
I would totally try that! ...If I had a second Switch/island
But I used to reset all the time in previous games. In this game, I wanna try and keep the same island for a full year at least- which would be March 21st (I got the game on release day, technically at 11 PM the night before, but I reset on the 21st and haven't reset since). I haven't done that since the first game IIRC, so I want to try it this time around. Since you have so much more control over your town/island than before, it should be a lot easier- if I get bored with my island, I'll just remodel it!
Nah, I want to keep building on what I have, and update it as we get more updates from Nintendo! Plus like someone else mentioned, I started on the release date which I think makes it extra special. That way, it will be fun to look back on how much my self has changed (I took screenshots everyday for the first few months of the game).
I don't think I'd be resetting at this point due to how much work I've already put into my island and the fact that I have attachment issues and will probably never be able to completely redo my island but this is a really fun idea!!
Nah, I get too sentimental/attached to my towns especially once I start towards a direction I want to go.
It's a neat concept though and I can see how some would enjoy it.
