Back 3 or 4 months ago, I approved a nickname I didn't really care for from a villager, thinking they would just ping me to change it again a few weeks later, but they're still calling me the nickname. Anyone else have this problem or have any tips/luck in getting a villager to change a previous nickname?

You could try reporting them to Isabelle to go back to normal. Then wait for the ping to happen.

I don't know if it has to do with being more involved with that villager for them to give you a new name. Pashmina was my second villager on the island, and from March up until about a month ago, she never once asked to change my name. It was always U-o-rino.

Ah! For some reason I thought that only applied to catchphrases, I didn't know it could work for nicknames.

Just wait it out until one of them gives you the option to type in your own. :)

I've never accepted a nickname from a villager, since Eloise started calling me HON back in WW 2005. ^_^

A few months ago, Rex wanted me to pick a nickname he could call me. I was busy and didn't want to deal with it, so i to!d him to call me " smelly". Big mistake. He still calls me smelly, and the other villagers are always asking me if they can call me smelly too. Lol. Annoying but funny.

I never set catchphrases or nicknames. Villagers copying each other's nicknames and catchphrases makes them no longer special, and ruins variety and originality.
