Nintendo Discontinues Production of the Entire 3DS Family of Consoles

My family currently has a few functional although used DS devices, however this almost makes me want to go and buy a brand new one and just stash it away in case something happens years from now. While I do spend most of my game time on the switch or even my XBONE I still revisit my DS games occasionally and use them as an accessory to my switch. Games like Pokemon allow for that, so I'm kind of spooked by it. We all knew it would happen one day but I'm not ready!! AHHH!

It's a bit sad, but it was coming at some point. I'm hoping my DS will last for a long time so I don't have to ever buy a new one to play HHD or New Leaf. I'm glad they are not discontinuing online services though.

Now is the time to buy any digital versions of 3DS games before they shut that down too...unless it already is lol haven't even checked.

Hopefully not since it's their own servers this time rather than a 3rd party that was the case for Wii and DS. But yeah this still sucks man, especially since I think 3DS is definitely more fun than Switch.

I hope the online functionality stays around for longer. I still have a lot to do on my NL town.

Discontinuing the eshop probably makes logistic sense. They probably want people to spend money on the Switch instead and I'd imagine that in a lot of places where the Switch isn't extremely popular, they might not have enough new sales to justify keeping it open.

I'm not too worried. I still see working DSes for sale so it's probable that for years to come we'll still be able to buy secondhand 3DSes. After that, who knows? They might just port games for newer handhelds or release a classic 3DS or something one day.

Still play mine to this day. So many great hidden gems like the Yo-Kai Watch games, Dragon Quest 7 and 8, and Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
