Not getting pinged!

I've just noticed a trend that I'm not getting pinged, or getting alerts, when I'm quoted in a merged post, and I think that's happening to those I've quoted in posts of mine that have been merged.

Is this happening to anyone else?

just to note also, that I do in fact have notifications for mentions turned on, so they should be notifying:

It may be because it automatically edits the first post with the content of the second one and deletes the latter? And then the notification gets deleted as well since the post doesn't exist anymore

Same has been happening for me!! I made sue to check the box is ticked and everything but i don't seem to be getting any notifications

the same thing has been happening for me and i have those settings checked to on as well. does it have to do with how many users someone is pinging at once? i've noticed when it's just me or a few people getting pinged at once i do receive the notification, but there's a lot i don't.

I’m not sure if this is true, but it has happened to me once.

If someone quotes you and it’s a auto merge post, it doesn’t ping you. Again not sure if this is true, but I noticed someone quoted me after sending his first post 1 min before and I didn’t see it on my notifications.

I don't get pinged on my own posts.... I'll only get pinged if someone likes or quotes me but not if they reply.

Although, I noticed that if I "watch" the thread I will get pinged if people only reply to it.

Yeah, you need to watch your own threads manually to get pinged if someone posts, since technically it could be just someone talking in the thread and not directly answering you. But when they like/quote you, it's directed at you so you get an alert by default (or at least that's my reasoning on the matter).
You can also go on the Preferences page and tick the boxes "Automatically watch content you create" (aka the threads you make) or "Automatically watch content you interact with" (aka the threads you post in).


And since people are still posting here I'll quote my own post since I really think it's what's happening here

& side note as well, I know this message is already very long, but @ all the people quoting people one by one to get their posts merged:

instead of quoting everybody one by one and having your messages get merged (which doesn't give people a notification saying you quoted them), you can answer everyone at once by using the "+ Quote" button at the end of posts and then the "Insert quotes" that will have appeared next to "Attach files"

It is caused by post merges, yes. I don't know where this currently sits on @Jeremy's priority list.
