Not so sure about the time sensitive holidays...

I understand the devs not wanting people to time travel and just spoil the holiday festivities, but having literally to connect online to experience them kinda concerns me. This essentially means the holidays will be inaccessible when the game's servers inevitably end up being shut down. I'm not really sure if this is a good compromise... especially with preserving the game's content afterwards in the long run.

I'm still excited for them, though, as they are doing it in some interesting ways this time around, but it still is a concern. How do you guys feel about it?

I feel like they'll add them in permanently before shutting down servers. But that's yearrrs away. New Leaf is almost ten years old and the servers are still very much up and running

I personally like the events w/ updates, but I understand why a lot of people don't like it.

I'm being optimistic and hoping that before they close the game's servers they'll make all the holidays accessible without connecting...

No, no concerns at all. I love how they're approaching holiday events this time.

I hate it, also makes me wonder about people who don't have internet/won't have internet. Also I think it's a bit silly considering people won't be spending their time playing a video game, especially kids I feel would be doing holiday stuff.

I just don't want missable events or items. That's my main concern. If I miss an event in New Leaf, I'll be okay knowing next year I'll experience it and not miss out. But if they change it up every year, it's a lot more pressure not to miss these because next year it won't be the same.

i’m a bit concerned but i bet they’d add the events in permanently before shutting servers down but that’s years away from happening lol

By the time the Nintendo Switch servers shut down we will be in the next game already, if not the next next game

I would hope (though I doubt it) that they're just trying to not spoil it and will allow the holidays to "remain" after they're installed via DLC only once. Maybe the next updates will have newer versions of them, but hopefully people can still have a baseline holiday to celebrate if they don't want to plug into the internet just to download something that should already be long in the game.

That's what I'm hoping to, either that or after the first year of this game being out, they'll have the downloaded content not need to make those "checks" anymore. Or have previously completed holidays not need to make "checks" as we go along, but we just won't know how this stuff works out until we get there ;o;

I assume after the first round of holiday stuff theyll just keep it in permanately. If not I'm sure theyll add things in before the servers go down but we have years before that's considered.

agh yeah!! they weren't too clear with how that's gonna work. I really really hope this is the case though. I just don't want to rely on updates to play the game like normal. I also don't really like the idea of them spanning over the course of like TEN DAYS but whatever loool.... Like Bunny Day's cute and all, but ten days?? Of that guy?? Of the eggs? Nah man. Idk I guess they're doing that to make up for the fact it's downloadable or something but I'd rather still have my one day holidays like normal without having to connect to a server or something.

I seriously doubt Nintendo would take down servers and leave this game requiring checks for holidays. They know people play these games for many years. There's still people actively playing the Gamecube game! I'm not worried about that.

Yeah, it really screws people over who don't always have access to internet. Because with the Nintendo Switch being portable, I imagine that a lot of people take it with them travelling and whatnot. Depending on how close to the holidays the updates are released, it could really screw over those who don't have wifi access because they are travelling for the holidays.

I'm happy for any updates! I think that's a great system to protect the longevity of the game.

yea when i first heard of how theyre handling holidays i immediately thought that this is how they would do it as well.

with easter's holiday being a 2 weeks long, im assuming all of the holidays will be like that. irl, holidays only last 1 day. if that isnt enough time to play during the game at least once than i dont think visiting people for the holidays would be the cause of that. thats not saying people arent busy or anything, its just that compared to past games the holidays will last forever and there should be enough time to access it even tho the holiday itself is locked behind real time instead of just game time.

if u cant find wifi maybe libraries, other family members, friends and such may have some u could snatch for a bit. if there is crafting or recipes involved i plan on grinding out a lot of them to give away, so that those who arent as fortunate to play during the holiday can at least get something from it.

I don't think the holidays require you to be connected 24/7, just to unlock them.
So on april 1st there will be a quick "update" sort of thing where you unlock the ability to have the event for those 12 days.
It would make no sense for them to have the holiday linked to the internet 24/7 specifically as people who TT would end up having a bunny day outside of the typical day and even season if they TTed over a month or two (bunny day in August would make no sense; they would have to go back to April!)

The extension of the holiday (12 days rather than 1) is likely because we have to craft the items and it could take A LOT of eggs to do this. plus it'll be nice for those who celebrate easter and other in game holidays to not have to hide away to play the game while everyone else is doing other stuff irl :p

I heard it was one random day out of the 12 but I'm not so sure. I wouldn't mind a couple of days to do the event because then it would be easier to get some cool stuff and I wouldn't miss out if I was busy on that day, but 12 days does seem pretty long.

Also no April Fools Day :(

Having a new holiday experience every year is a dream come true, I hated getting the same thing over and over every holiday in new leaf
