I don't think an age limit is necessary, more like we should require first time hosts to have an experienced co-host or "coach" to watch over them.

YES OMG that would make me so much more comfortable hosting a game

Hm. I never thought of that. But what first-time hosts need a co-host? How do we decide that

Wouldn't that be left up to the first time host? Like if they want an actual co-host or just someone to oversee them and their game.

^ The coach could also probably jump into co-host if asked by the host, like a sudden emergency or for some reason they've become really busy but don't want to end the game.

Also, why are new hosts eager to jump into main mafias before minis? I started with a mini. :)

I disagree with this strongly. I don't want to be harsh but just because Purpl screwed up a whole bunch of things in his game doesn't mean that everyone else would do the same in his position - I don't know if an age limit is the answer because it simplifies things too much (For example: All people below 15 years of age would NOT struggle with hosting!) but your counter proposal falls under the exact same category. (All people at any age hosting for the first time would NOT struggle with hosting!)

This is going to sound really harsh but you can sort of tell who would do a decent job and who might need a babysitter even before the game has started based on how they act when they are playing in a game, in my opinion. I knew Purpl would try his best, but I didn't expect him to perform as well as you do Tom, when you're hosting - Simply because he doesn't perform as well as you do as a player. Feloreena is next in line to host now, and she's never hosted before, but I am pretty confident she will do an amazing job completely without assistance. However, for any game ever, having someone step in and help out IF NECESSARY is a very good idea.

There's also this. There's nothing wrong with jumping into hosting with a main, but you're definitely going to want a co-host before flying solo with mains.

I don't think she'll do bad but you have to admit your bias on this :p

Of course - But at the same, it's not fair to lump everyone into two categories based on things such as their age or their previous hosting experience. Everyone is new at some point, and if you've played the game enough and understand how it works, what it comes down to is how well-organized you are.

I'll give another example: I do believe Yui Z is fairly young. But she is an excellent player. No doubt, she'd also be an excellent host in my opinion. To prevent her from hosting because you set an age limit seems incredibly unfair. She has done nothing wrong. And I really do not agree that she should be FORCED to have a babysitter if she doesn't want one either, should she choose to host. In case she struggles and runs into problems, it'd be nice if someone could step in and help her out, but it should be on her terms.

Also, there isn't much different between Mini Mafia and Main Mafia. Some games are far more complicated than others based on their setup anyways, and a complicated Mini could be far more difficult to host than a basic Main. Simply put: Either you are organized and got your act together or you do not. Everyone can still make mistakes of course - We're only human - But that could happen to an experienced host as well, technically.

Co-hosting isn't at all like baby-sitting. Both hosts help out with answering questions, handling actions and day/night posts, etc. Both hosts usually do more or less the same amount of work.
It wouldn't even be hosting if one person just kept telling you what to do :8

My issue with it is based only if it'd be forced upon people against their wishes. I think it's a good idea otherwise. I just want to make that clear.

EDIT: Another idea is to open up a separate category of games for First-Time Hosts where the players who sign up have been told in advance that the ride could be somewhat more rocky than otherwise. That way expectations might be a bit lower for the participants, and they will be pleasantly surprised when someone does a great job instead of feeling that the overall quality of the game is lower than they are used to.

Perhaps require was the wrong word to use, you're right. I really don't think an age limit is an answer or solution to the problem really. But this is the joy of suggestions, we find common ground and try to work out a better solution from there!

While yes, I agree with the sentiment that you have gut feelings about who will be a better host, it would be rather unfair if we held some to a standard but others get a free pass.

Exactly this. :) At least from my lone experience co-hosting from Kayla. She handled a majority of questions, helped send out roles, and took care of Day/Night posts when I informed her I might be late to doing it by an hour or two.

i feel like something that would really help out in hosting is that all hosts should write their own introductory posts and have role pms ready, and those should be looked over by someone to decide whether or not they need a cohost.

i think there are a lot of problems with people borrowing the same introductory content from other games, since in mean girls, blu rose posted their role pm which was against the rules. if each person had to write out their own content, it would be helpful for the players, so they do not have to skim rules to check what is different, and to be a good screening process for who would be good enough to host their own game.

that being said, i think there are a lot of other problems with the hosting system and queue, but i will hold my tongue for now.

I think all idea's are welcome :D
