Please read my post about how much work goes into hosting, guys.

I can summarize it.

Hosting is much more difficult and time-consuming that it looks. You'll probably spend an hour to an hour and a half getting everything set up for each day and night, and you'll also have to answer questions and step in when needed.

It's hard.

It's hard.

And I truly do not think some of the people who want to host understand that.

Oath's post again:

Here is a list of things that go into hosting a game:
  • Choosing a set-up.
  • Making sure your roles are balanced
  • Preparing your flavor text, if you have it.
  • You may not be playing, but you have to read each post to answer host-questions.
  • If your game is no PM, you have to be in the IRC to make sure there aren't any discussions.
  • You have to keep up with all your QuickTopics, answering any host questions.
  • You have to make sure your inbox has plenty of extra space at all times.
  • If you have coaches, this adds to the work. You have to make sure that the coaches and trainees are compatible, you have to definitely keep up with their QuickTopics to make sure the host isn't all too
  • You absolutely have to update the first post.
  • Chances are, you'll spend an hour to an hour and a half each day and night maintaining all of this, depending on your game size.

I'm not trying to discourage people from hosting but I honestly think that people don't entirely know how much work goes into it.

I've hosted a main game, a mini mafia, and co-hosted two newbie games. It does require a lot of work and time. Expect to spend a lot of time PMing people (especially if you've a really complicated set-up) and to spend time monitoring the thread/coaching QTs. Also, finding replacements in the instance that a player needs to drop out. The initial set-up for a game can take a long time too - I spent weeks tweaking Mafia X: The Honnō-ji Incident.

If anyone ever needs anyone to look over their OP before it goes live, or wants a second opinion on whether or not the roles are balanced, then drop me a PM and I'd be happy to do so. :) Also, before hosting a game, ensure you have the time to do so! It does require a lot of work and you're expected to respond quickly / post on time.

WE NEED UPDATES ON MAIN MAFIA :p
Also, Tina, I sent you the link so you could check my setup ^~^ thanks for doing this.

I like it, but be careful with character limits. When I had to update the Honnō-ji Incident OP at the end of the game I found it went over the forum's character limit. :(

Yeah, that's what I'm a little worried about. What's character limits for first posts? I know it's bigger than normal posts

I swear, one of the most frustrating things is specifically laying out each and every scenario in a role PM for action roles so they know exactly what to expect.

The fact that there is no consistency with doctors and protections each game is particularly annoying.

At least it will save you time so you dont need to deal with the questions later

I don't mind there's no consistency, but it should be outlined in the first post.

Or in role PMs, that's what I'm doing.

Ugh. I have done so much writing today. Wrote the entire main post for my game, wrote all the PMs out, did the main voting post, and THEN I finally did the main post for the Scummies.
