Just a quick Q.

Are we allowed to make custom-themed mafia games? for example, the way it plays out, the story, etc without it having to be based off of a actual thing?

Yes, look at mafia 1 and mafia 2.
Games aren't required to have themes.

I know they aren't required.
Just, can you make your own thing? Like, based off of a story you wrote?

Yeah, why not. It's your game and your theme. Nothing says you cant.
Mafia 1 and 2 have their own stories anyway.

Your games are always terrible so I never mention them to spare some people the misery.

*cries for dramatic effect*

I have an experimental setup that I might want to try in the future.

I ran over my stepdad's hose with a lawnmower when I was thinking about it.

I'm confused to how the framer works - so if the framer frames a mafia member then that mafia member comes back town?? I don't get it. Is that how the role is supposed to work? Or is it okay if I choose to only let the framer make people come back mafia?

Yeah so either you'd do it to make your scum buddies look like townie or just make others look like the person is red and have scum to control the lynch.

It has varied on TBT. In some games (e.g. Mafia X: Honnō-ji Incident), it has worked that whoever is framed (whether it be scum or town) will come back as mafia. This works great in games where detectives can see the exact role of the player.

Whereas, in other games, (e.g. Nub Mafia II) the framer can make a town player return as mafia, or a mafia player return as town to an inspection. This works well in games where the detective can only see alignments.

It's really up to the host how the roles work. All of the traditional roles (e.g. doctor, DT, vig) have had minor differences to their usage at some point.

Wait is the Disney villain mafia out? Also Oath what's the theme for your maf?

unless you don't have a theme, then ignore this yo

List similar to ban list, but it possesses names of every TBT mafia player and logs how many times they've been modkilled. Hosts then take this into consideration when the player asks to join and can outright deny, move to replacements or allow them to play.

ok but even the active players in the end start becoming inactive around end game so what do we do

That's usually why in the games I host I start speeding things up if the majority/all players are online and it devolves into IRC mafia. Fast paced, some logic involved and the game isn't drawn out. Not exactly the best solution, but it is something.

That's how I wish games would end near Day 4/Day 5. Though I feel like bc everyone is in a diff timezone in example XCOM then it's impossible to do that for players asleep. Idk, like once most of the people are dead people seem to get really bored. I would think endgame would be exciting because you're close to winning, but I guess not. It's really annoying to have to wait for someone to post so discussion can start. Lately in Portal and XCOM I notice they're making lynches at the last minute, because they waste most of the day not talking. maybe mafia is better quicker idk
