This has happened to me so many times and I've gotten warnings because of it. I despise looking at my past warnings because it makes me feel emotional. When the What’s Bothering You thread forbids complaining about other members (at least specific members), I take the rule so seriously that:
Even though the rule says nothing about the above, it’s best to avoid complaining about anything site-related (unless if you’re venting about depression over events ending or glitches), because that would put you on a slippery slope to breaking that one rule.
- I can’t use the thread to complain about warnings or infractions. Because that would slip into complaining about the moderators, which are other members.
- I can’t use the thread to complain about how others are treating me as a whole rather than specific members. Sometimes, it’s just a few members that are being mean, and when there are fewer members, such complaints can be specific. And if it’s the community as a whole, then I’m failing to acknowledge the errors of my ways, and that could start a fight.
- I can’t use the thread to complain about how poorly I’m doing in the TBT Marketplace, or how the TBT Marketplace is doing poorly.
- I can’t use the thread to even bring up drama from other threads.
If you want to know why this rule exists, there used to be another What’s Bothering You thread. Two actually. The first one wasn’t made by a staff member, but rather a regular user, so there was less moderation. So it was technically allowed, just not recommended. But when some users did express their frustration with other members, or used it to bully other members, it started a lot of drama. After it was closed, a new one was opened, but with staff-imposed rules. And one of them was to not use it to express your annoyance with other members. Of course, people didn’t take it seriously enough as the thread went on, so that one got locked as well. Now they’re threatening to suspend anyone that mentions another member in a negative light, whether they say their name or simply allude to them. This has happened to me so many times and I've gotten warnings because of it. It may seem surprising to you, but most of us joined at different times of this forum’s lifetime, with 2013-2015 being the golden age of new members joining. When I first joined, the majority of the community joined in either 2013 or 2014. But now, only a small portion of the community joined within the last two years. It feels awkward seeing this one poll that's showing up on the forums' homepage right now: "How many years have you been a member of TBT?", when there are fairly new members who joined months ago, weeks ago, days ago, or even just today!
Me, I've only been a member for 7 months, so I still can't vote on that poll.
The Animal Crossing Community also has that exact same poll on their homepage, too!
