For dating apps, people have nothing else to go off but looks. We could have a lot in common, but it’s rare anyone is willing to give it a shot if they aren’t physically attracted to you.
I find that most people on dating apps are only looking to get into relationships for wrong reasons. It’s hard to find anything real when you’re dealing with that.
Exactly. A lot of the people on them are only there for quick flings or to find the dream person that doesn’t exist. The shady business practices by the developers themselves (looking at you, Match Group) also reveal the fact that they only want your money and do the bare minimum to help you out. One of the biggest financial mistakes I’ve made was wasting money on the boosts and premium subscriptions. While I did not spend anything on this latest go around, I was disgusted to see that some of the subscription plans had you pay over $59.99 a month. Yes, you read that right —
a month. And that’s not even for a top-tier plan. Previously, the highest I’ve seen was $39.99 a month, so you’d think that reducing subscription prices would get people to come back, right? Nah. Gouging the price that much just to see who likes you is enough to cause people to cancel and leave en masse.
Who knows how many real people use these apps. I don’t have a right to know, but according to one Reddit post I saw, you’re much more likely to find a real connection at a crowded bar than through any social app, and I believe that. In general, people are particularly less picky about others when in public. On the dating apps, they obtain the safeguard of being able to reject “ugly people” without consequence. That’s the major flaw of the swipe-based mechanic, and it’s pretty sad how I fell for the in-app purchases.
Maybe a message-initiation place such as eHarmony actually works. However, I can’t justify having to pay a crazy amount of money only to not find anyone. I’ll now focus on attending actual events in my area and seeing who I can meet. A single decent experience in speed dating definitely trumps multiple dating app failures.
