Ni no Kuni II and FFXIV are definitely my favorites. FYI FFXIV is subscription model.

We're talking JRPGs too, right? I'll be a total hipster and just list off a few of my favorites that aren't super mainstream. I love the big guys like Final Fantasy and Paper Mario, but the smaller games need attention too.

In no particular order:

  • Okage: Shadow King
  • Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
  • Rune Factory (1 and 4)
  • Eternal Sonata
  • Enchanted Arms

Mind you, I'm not saying that all of these are 10/10, must play games. Most of them are archaic and limited in many ways, but they're some of my favorites because they have something unique and charming about them.

  • Persona 2/3/4/5 (Persona 1's gameplay is wayyyy too clunky for me. Persona 2's story is really good, and I love Jun. Both deserve remakes and attention from Atlus... My favorite is 5 though.)
  • Mother 3
  • Lisa: The Painful / The Joyful
  • Undertale
  • Hylics
  • Monster Hunter
That's just a few of them. RPGs are my favorite genre of games.

Rune Factory! Especially 2 and 3 (4 and one are okey but have a lot of faults/annoying gamemechanics or bland characters).
But, despite my critic on them- I love every part of this serie. They are my favourite games by a long stride. (To be honest I might be a bit blinded by nostalgia)

They are a bit like harvest moon as you can marry, farm, tend to animals/monsters, cook.
But you can also fight monsters, cast magic, craft items and weapons.

Bottom line- I highly recomend checking them out. 3 might be the most starter-friendly one. Cx

Games are avaiable on:

1, 2, 3 on DS/DSi and playable on the 3DS/2DS
4 is for 3DS and it came out for the switch too.
5 is on the way for the switch too.

There are two for the Wii as well, but I never played those.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Earthbound
Super Mario RPG
Stardew Valley (Forgot this one counts lol)

I'm probably forgetting something I've played...

KOTOR!!!!

Knights of the Old Republic is by far my favorite RPG ever. I played it on my tablet three times in the span of this recent December to February. The storyline is cheesy but still amazing. The characters are hilarious, everything is fully voice-acted (something I wasn't even aware could exist after my exclusively 3ds Pokemon games experiences), and the animation is incredible for an early 2000s Xbox game!! The fight scoring mechanics were a bit odd, being based on Dungeons and Dragons dice stuff in which I have absolutely no clue of how it works, but the basic maneuvering and fighting controls were simple and fun to watch!! Highly recommend!!

I love the tales of series! my brother introduced it to me when I was really young (about 6/7ish) with tales of Eternia. honestly, I loved the character's designs but I can't remember anything from the plot(lmao)... I'm going to have to revisit it soon. I did finish tales of berseria last year though! the gameplay was fun but the sad storyline caught me in a storm of tears a couple of times haha. I would definitely recommend the series! c:

honorable mentions would include but are not limited to: final fantasy and monster hunter

i'm a big fan of isometric cRPGs. here's my lis of my favorite rpgs:
  • Planescape: Torment
  • The Baldur's Gate series
  • Neverwinter Nights 2 and, more importantly, its expansion Mask of the Betrayer
  • Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
  • Deus Ex
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and, even more so, Knights of the Old Republic II
  • Fallout 1 + 2 + 3 + New Vegas
  • Disco Elysium
  • Dragon Age: Origins (the sequels are trash)
  • ******* Bonds
  • Caves of Qud
  • Persona 4
  • Dark Souls 1 + 2 + 3 (I haven't played Bloodborne yet, but imagine it'd make the cut too)
  • Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

Oh my god I love the tales of series!! Most of them I played solo but I always wished I had people to play them with haha! Symphonia is probably my favorite!

  • all of the Mother trilogy;
  • Undertale;
  • Deltarune;
  • Yume Nikki;
  • Pokémon (especially Emerald, HeartGold, Black 2, and Ultra Moon, and I'm planning to play Platinum anytime soon too... if Homebrew on my Wii U lets me, at least);
  • Mario & Luigi (only played Superstar Saga and Partners in Time so far since Homebrew won't let me play Bowser's Inside Story due to a known unfixable freeze glitch regarding Bowser's first battle with Midbus and I don't have my hands on Dream Team and Paper Jam yet, but out of the ones I've already played, Partners in Time will always be an all-time favourite of mine)
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (*cough* also bc Mallow and Geno are the best bois there *cough*)
Never really played any Zelda or Paper Mario games before since they seem a tad difficult or are simply hard to find respectively, but I do want to play them someday because they seem like a lot of fun, too.

Oh, and I also have some favourite hacks of Mother 2/EarthBound, if those count too:
  • Hallow's End;
  • Arn's Winter Quest;
  • Radiation's Halloween Hack (through which I've fully played by somewhat adapting the game to my hypersensitivity: muting the system volume whenever I thought that certain music tracks sounded disturbing to my ears, and by temporarily sticking fruit stickers/labels onto my monitor whenever I thought that certain in-battle sprites looked too hideous/disturbing/anything else in that way :p :p :p)
Out of those, I think Hallow's End is the best, as it wasn't as short as the other two hacks I've played aside of it. (Its plot length was in between Arn's Winter Quest and the Halloween Hack altogether, and the original Mother 2, if I'm not mistaken.)

Suikoden II. It's my all time favorite game and a classic. The series overall is amazing, and I wish I didn't have to switch back to my PS3 to play Suikoden III and IV. (And no V in the PSN store? I'm still really sad.)

For other RPG games I adore:

Shin Megami Tensei series (along with its spin off series: Persona, Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner, etc.)
Tales of series
Pokemon

I could also list Star Ocean series, but I have sort of a love-hate relationship with it at times. I really enjoy tri-Ace's Valkyrie Profile series and Radiata Stories more than Star Ocean.

Dark souls 1 and 3 (haven't played 2 yet)
Bloodborne (my all-time fave!!)
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Nioh 2 (2nd one is much better but Ive played both 1 and 2)
The Witcher 3 (but everyone likes that game. I do wish there was less s** scenes though. I want no part in that)
Stardew Valley
Skyrim and all of my mods
