Pokémon Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet General Discussion

I immediately knew from the titles that the legendaries this time around might be based around light. Stole this from a Google search:

"Light (also referred to in professional literature as radiation) is best thought of as a spectrum consisting of ultraviolet light (UV) at the short end, visible light in the center, and infrared (IR) wavelengths at the long end."

Scarlet of course is a shade of red. Even if I'm wrong it will be interesting what the concepts they'll have planned for the boxart legendaries.

the starters look like randomized existing pokemon parts. interested to see how/what they’ll expand with open world in main game.

The grass starter is cute, but I'd like to know way more before I get either. I dislike the donald duck clone and the fire one is ehh? I haven't got LoA yet so dunno how I feel about those kind of games yet. I'd have to say I prefer more linear games and honestly trying new things aren't always good plus Pokémon's gimmick is being the same old stuff is the good stuff.

Wow I wasn't expecting this! I haven't even got Legends: Arceus yet o_O It seems the region is based on Spain, which is fine by me! I welcome another European region

So far I'm loving the grass starter, they're cute af. Not so into the duck, but the fire starter is interesting.

I'm not really sure how to feel about this. It just seems too soon for a new Gen imo. It feels like only yesterday that SwSh came out, and we had PLA and BDSP in the span of only a few months. It just looks to me like they're really pumping out Pokémon games like no one's business. We'll see what time will tell, I suppose. It looks bright and colorful, at the very least. But wow, 3 years since the release of SwSh? Where did time go.

On first impressions, I'm fond of Sprigatito on its name alone and of course, being a lover of the grass type. Fuecoco looks like a derpy Bubble Bobble dragon 😅 but it may have potential of becoming something cool, like a medieval fire dragon. Quaxly, I have to agree, looks pretty generic. Almost like a Ducklett just with the qualities of a prince rather than a swan princess such as Swanna. Lately the water starters (namely Popplio and Sobble) have disappointed me in terms of design. I kinda miss starters not looking so cartoony, if that makes sense.

We've had a new generation every 3 years. Pandemic gave us some lessons in time travel, lol, 3 years went by so fast...

Not gonna lie I am a bit concern about this game coming out so soon in late 2022. I would not be surprised if they delay the game to 2023, because it almost feels like they are kinda rushing to get this game out. I know people complained the graphics in PLA and of course this new game Pokemon Scarlet and Violet the graphics do look better, but it can still use some improvement.

The only thing I'm wondering is what is the story of this game, again I don't want them to go back to the old formula where we are just going back to battling Gym leaders, defeating evil team, and become the champion otherwise it will feel like the game has gone back to the past instead of evolving. PLA did something different which was much more needed so I hope they are able to do new things with this new game.

I know that customisation will return but I really prefer the Violet default clothing over the Scarlet.

I'll wait until version exclusives until I'll make my final decision but I'm leaning toward Violet at the moment

ditto, for the same reasons. not to mention that it's not even scarlet, it's orange asdfghjkl. like why is the violet clothing, y'know, actually violet or at least close enough while the scarlet clothing is a different color entirely.

Since it falls into that three-yearly rhythm with Pokémon games, I guess I just assumed Arceus was going to be the only 2022 game, and I didn't really think it through! The Scarlet/Violet release makes complete sense, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Gen 9 was coming in 2022! 🌟🎉

The violet starter outfits are definitely preferable, and I also like the name better, but the real decider will be the exclusives.

I generally always go grass starters, but based on these descriptions (in the spoiler tag, but not a spoiler), I'm leaning towards Quaxly. It will really depend on the final evolution, but if I manage to start the game without seeing the final evolutions, I'll probably go with my gut, and my gut always says grass. 😅 🌿

I'm not too surprised they announced the next generation of games today. After all, starting with Gen 5, they've been running the generations in 3 year cycles, so naturally Gen 9 would end up starting in November 2022 since SwSh was released in November 2019.

I don't have too many thoughts about it at the moment, since there is only so much we know about it at this time. I'm happy that it'll be an open world game, which makes sense to me since they're building off what they put together in the Wild Area for SwSh and the DLCs, as well as Legends: Arceus. I'll end up using Quaxly because I always choose the water starter, lol, while it's also likely I'll get end up getting Scarlet since it is red, though the version legendaries could always change that.

Um is it me or do the playable characters look like they are 5 year olds? I don't know something about them doesn't look right to me.

I just saw the trailier, and I think it looks stunning. However, I find it really funny that it just came out ai soon after the others, but the graphics are amazing. Like Arceus, so I feel like they were working on both at the same time, but this one took a bit longer.

I also loved how they showed my lovely Seviper in the trailier, I gasped lol. If I can walk around with Seviper, Im happy~

So I think im the only one who likes the duck haha, I loved Ducklett, and this little one looks like them. Kinda looks like Donald duck, but ok lol. Little white ducks are cute :)
The grass starter looks like a cat version of that one wolf like, red and black Pokemon. Im a cat Pokemon fan, so I might go for them.
Well the last one is cute, it reminds me of a Chewtle for some reason. Im not a huge fan of chewtle, esspecially being amubushed by them for the first time. But it is cute, so maybe. I dont go by looks, I go by the one that grabs me the most

I wanna get a better look at the male, and female protegonist, I usually go male, but sometimes like the girl better.

I wonder who was chosen to be a legendary in it. Maybe an old one will show their face.

I just really hope the starters dont evolve into something crazy, like some past starters. Go back to how the starters actually looked similar. Not the Litten path.

These games look really promising. I'm split between choosing Sprigatito or Fuecoco (Quaxley's cute too, but I normally don't pick water starters other than Oshawott). Legends Arceus was proof that open-world style Pokémon games can work. I just hope these games have more trainer battles.

Spain is a pretty nice inspiration for a new region. I'm surprised it wasn't done sooner. Hopefully one day Gamefreak can base a region on the Pacific Northwest, The Great Lakes region, or Australia. Those places sound perfect for a Pokémon region.

Maybe its because of the short shorts? They look a lot like those kindergardeners from Japanese anime. I'm sure customisation is in the game and I'll be changing as soon as other options are available.

I'd be surprised if they post pone the game. Pokemon has other things timed that is tied to new generations. Like anime, card packs, merch not to mention holiday sales. If they don't get as far as they would like, they would probably just do patches. Similar to SP/BD.
I prefer those shorts than all the skirts and dresses from x/y for the girls. Trainers in pokemon games always look really young. Maybe one day they will give other options.

Yeah there is no doubt about that, but still I was really hoping we can play as like a grown adult trainer. I swear if they don't let us skip the tutorials............

Can someone please notify GameFreak that Fire starters are allowed to be on four legs and stay on four legs. I really hope we don't get anymore humaniod designs for starters because I'm really tired about them.

I hope they do something really cool with the Duck. I really like have a potential flying type for a starter. The kitty so cute and fills me with good vibes.
