Hi everyone, thank you for your patience. The event is now going to re-open with new rules in place. We are implementing a cap on the event of 100 submissions per user and we have changed the "most Pokémon caught" bonus to "first to catch 100 shiny Pokémon".
Updated Point System
A maximum of 100 Pokémon submissions can be made to this event.
*If more than one person finds all of the target Pokémon, then this will be awarded based on speed.
We are introducing these changes due to not having predicted that people would actively farm non-target 1-point Pokémon to amass such extreme numbers of points. Initially this tier on the point table was included to allow you to submit any other shinies you unintentionally found while hunting for the target. e.g. if the target were a shiny Zubat, but you kept finding gold Geodudes. We also set the point value for this tier so low in order to discourage active farming.
While we understand this may seem unfair to some of you, especially those of you who already hit the cap , we hope you can appreciate that when compared to other events this one was imbalanced to the extent of skewing the entire TBTWC 2024. For example, if you took part in every Jackbox session to run, you could only earn a maximum of 40 points, or 115 points if you took part in every MK8D friendlies session. If you took part in Salmon Run, that event was capped at 70 points. It was just not balanced enough to co-exist alongside the other events in the TBTWC 2024. Even with this this new cap implemented, some users have still obtained up to 175 points from this event, which is still imbalanced to some degree but we felt it was unfair to set the cap any lower than this.
Over the weekend, the rate of submissions hit the point that it was impossible to keep up with the thread. I even had to call upon other staff members for help with data processing. Even then it has still taken hours to catch up. This is another reason we have had to introduce this cap: the workload was far too much for us to stay on top of. We were at the point that it was running the risk of delaying the Closing Ceremony if we didn't hit pause, re-evaluate, and choose to implement restrictions. If this event returns, it'll either be with a much lower point cap or with non-target Pokémon excluded entirely, so that we don't need to hit pause halfway through for re-evalution again.
We know not everyone will like this change, but we hope you can understand why it was necessary for it to be done. We don't like changing the rules halfway through the game, but in this case it was essential both for the sake of the TBTWC 2024 as a whole and in relation to staff workload.
