Pokémon Pokemon Sun and Moon General Discussion

Diamond and Pearl remakes would be nice, especially since those are the first games I've ever played and the Creation Trio are my favorite legendaries... but I doubt we're getting them anytime soon. Not until the next new hand-held console, at least... then again, this is the first time we've gotten two new generations of Pokemon on the same system since the Game Boy/Game Boy Color I think? So who knows.

Tbh if we are to get Diamond and Pearl remakes then it should be in this generation or next generation considering that Gen 5 had no remakes but before that, there was a remake in consecutive generations (FireRed and LeafGreen in Gen 3 and HeartGold and SoulSilver in Gen 4).

We could have remakes this gen although it may seem too soon or next gen when there may be a new console (Apparently Nintendo is working on a handheld console codenamed MH?)

It's the 3rd of 6 generation transitions that happened on the same handheld (1-2, 4-5, 6-7). I think you're right in your judgment of the remakes though. All previous ones were made when the series transitioned onto an entirely new system. I don't think we'll see D/P remakes in G7.

We could also consider the year differences between remakes. FRLG remakes were 2004. Then HGSS remakes were 2010. Finally ORAS was 2014. There could be a 4-6 year difference between the games so maybe between 2018-2020?

as much as I prefer lunala over solgaleo, I have to say solgaleo's special is pretty cool

I was going to get moon because I it would have more dark, ghost, and psychic types but after that I am really loving Solegeo, I knew he would be a steel type but psychic steel, isn't that a cool typing

I'm liking this so far. Still going to get Moon even though I like Sun's legendary more... but Steel/Psychic with Clear Body? That's kinda lame, same as Metagross and it never did so well in my team.

I'd love to incorporate the legendary into my team but half is already weak to Ground-types so adding another Steel would just make things worse. x.x

The new region looks beautiful!

I'm glad that it looks quite varied; when they first announced it and we could see it was based off Hawaii I was kind of thinking the whole region would be very same-y - but in the map of the region looks like there's going to be many different types of area [like what looks to be an ice town on the top of the mountain/volcano]

I love the idea of the separate islands too~

I've thought of something to go with Sun and Moon's arbitrary reveal.

First off, there's possible voices I'd imagine the cast with. Emile Rosales and SkyDoesMinecraft are immediate contenders, although I've only decided Sky as being the ideal voice for Hau (the guy with the dark green hair). Trevor Devall would make a great fit for Kukui, while voice-acting legend Tara Strong herself would be PERFECT as Lillie. Andrea Libman, another respected voice actress, would do well as Rotomdex (R-D for short).
Second, I'm imagining everything having a Steven Universe aesthetic. Just like I connected Unova with Kirby and Kalos with MLP, I thought it'd be great if Alola would get the crossover treatment.

Yeah. If you think about it, RBY is "due" for another remake more than DPP since FRLG is on the GBA which means it's unplayable on the 3DS. Granted, Kanto is kind of included in HGSS, but that's not much newer than DPP. I wonder if Game Freak will eventually stop making new games and just cycle through generations over and over again. GSC, DPP, and BW will be "due" for remakes on the next handheld and then RSE, XY, and SM already on the next handheld after that. I don't know how long the average lifespan of a Pokemon player is, but if they released another remake every two years, they could keep a new player entertained for over 12 years. Older players are likely to have moved on by that point anyway, so I don't see much incentive for GF to keep making new games since it gets more and more difficult to keep making new Pokemon and then they have to remake sprites for all the older Pokemon. So I really wouldn't be surprised if Gen 7 or 8 is the last one.

The final game will be Pokemon Rainbow and will have you visit every single region (including a new one) and have all 1000 Pokemon available for you to catch.

Essentially the plot will be you thwart every evil team from the games while going about collecting badges and whatnot (the story has them all mysteriously "reviving" out of nowhere). Eventually when you finish going through every region all the teams gather to form a super team and go to their man-made region where you have the ultimate final showdown.

The game would be so massive it would have to be on console and take like 300+ hours to complete. There would literally be everything to do since it's the final game.

Yeah I've been dreaming this game up since FR/LG came out. It makes sense that that's how it would end, right?

I'm really loving how the main theme sounds.
0:52 and on especially! (ORAS II confirm)

I'm not sure how you extrapolated that from my post. I only said that when the series transitioned onto a new system, that's when they decided to make a remake. FRLG on the GBA, HGSS on the DS, ORAS on the 3DS. By that logic, it would make sense that a following (DPP) remake would be released on the 3DS successor, not the 3DS.

And if there's any games up for a remake, it's not RBY. They released the originals on the Virtual Console a few months ago, and Pokemon from that game can be transferred into Pokemon Bank. Along with RSE, they're the least in need of a remake out of all main series games.

So I really wouldn't be surprised if Gen 7 or 8 is the last one.
I'm pretty sure I've seen people say this since G4 or G5, along with one of the arguments you gave (running out of ideas for Pokemon). I don't think there's an end to generations in sight yet.

Eh, no not really. I mean the idea is cute, but that would suck as a game thats supposed to sell and be enjoyable.

Going through all the regions would be very grindy, repetitive and most Pokemon fans would not enjoy it. Sure maybe some more hardcore Pokemon players would love to play a mainline Pokemon game for 100h but majority of Pokemon fans are casual. It would flop. Also doubt a game cartridge nowadays could fit that many regions and doubt the creators of the game would enjoy pricing such a huge game at a regular price.

Also plotwise a lot of people would dislike the plot for being way too much like a fanfiction where the maker just wants to throw all the possible fanservice into the mix while making it all epic and whatever.

So, no don't agree. I very much doubt that Pokemon will end anytime soon considering that it's the money maker of Nintendo. It sells all kinds of merchandise and the games sell consoles. Also the whole idea of Nintendo running out of ideas is bull****. Sure some Pokemon could start to resemble the older ones, but there are still plenty of animals/myths/objects that Pokemon hasn't explored yet. And they can always take an old idea and twist it around to create something different enough.

I agree with you. It is a bit of a stretch to assume Game Freak will just remake a game that they've already remade; we really don't know how they would feel about remaking the same game two times over. Someone could argue that every third installment in a series like Crystal, Emerald and Platinum are already remakes of the two games that came before it - thus HGSS and ORAS are already remakes of games that have already been remade, yet Crystal, Emerald and Platinum are more like .5 versions than actual remakes.

I don't know how long the average lifespan of a Pokemon player is, but if they released another remake every two years, they could keep a new player entertained for over 12 years. While you make a few good points; in that it would take forever for them to keep remaking new sprites and that they could easily make a new player entertained with just remakes alone for 12 years... I doubt they are going to be running out of ideas for Pokemon anytime soon. As Dinomates said; there are still a lot of things they can draw inspiration from that they haven't even touched yet, and they can still add their own twists to the ideas they've already used to create something new.

Not to mention, the time interval in between each new generation being released has shortened to three years each beginning with the transition from BW to XY; despite the transition including a complete overhaul of the graphics from 2D with some 3D to full-on 3D... whereas it took four years to release new generations of Pokemon in between Gen 3 and Gen 5. Even though they do appear to be reusing the XY models and animations from the latest video with Salamence and Gengar in SM; keep in mind that based on current trends we should probably expect a larger generation of Pokemon than Gen 6 with possibly even more mega evolutions and other alternate forms.

No. If GF really wants to pay tribute to veterans of the series, they will make a game with the best 200-300 Pokemon competitively (including their previous evolutions) and filter out all the crapmons they usually include. They would jack up the difficulty of the game and put together real teams for trainers and gym leaders instead of having trainers with geodude, rhyhorn, and onix.

As long as Pokemon still makes money, they will continue making games.

I din't say they would stop making games period. I said they might stop making new games and just keep doing remakes because they can sell remakes for as much money while putting in less work than creating actual new games. Once they get to 1,000 Pokemon, then it's not like people are still going to think there are not enough. Game Freak could basically just release 5 remakes over and over again with each having about 200-300 Pokemon with some overlap and they would sell.

That wouldn't sell for **** though, and plenty of veterans don't play competitive and love some of the more mediocre pokes. Also Pokemon merch is very often cutesy and kicking out the weaker cutesy pokes would ruin that. Also the game you're speaking of isn't even Pokemon at this point. Pokemon is a casual light rpg-series with some deeper mechanics to optionally make it competitive.

Ya'll just really want a fanservice Pokemon game specifically aimed at you or something?

so far we havent heard of any mega evolution news yet for sun and moon and this kinda makes me think that nintendo may stop mega evolution and make it an only XY&ORAS thing. i hope they dont because if they do, its gonna be a bad idea and will let many fans down like me. and if they do continue mega evolution, i hope they dont give it to ****ty pokemon like beedrill, audiono, pinsir etc. god, those are horrible. also, as far as trainer customization goes, i think sun and moon will only let you choose your skin and hair color and thats it coz if we could customize our clothes too, they will definitely show it in the trailer, but thats just from my observation. maybe they will release more trailers with more infos.
