I haven't bothered beating shield, I'd like to breed a magikarp to finish the game with and use afterward. Could I give someone a rare item to check the IVs when I get a good one? Then trade it back. Right now I can go for a rattled, adamant one.

The IV calculators aren't as accurate with level ones.
