Price of New Horizons

I wouldn't mind the price increase if Nintendo wasn't already making literal billions from apps and online subscriptions. I also wouldn't mind it if Nintendo made more medium tier and experimental games, but they also don't do that - they just allow other developers to put their games on the Switch and take a cut from them as well. It just sucks that the philosophy of Nintendo changed so much, you know.

But generally speaking, a game costing as much as a week worth of meals or a DVD/blu-ray set is probably reasonable. Most things are expensive, and games are something that'll entertain you over and over again. Not being able to afford entertainment is another issue, but I do think the price does represent the work put into it. I just wish that success would do good things for the workers and the players alike.

$60 is the average price. New leaf I believe was $40 the same as 3ds games were.

I believe 60$ is the standard price (USD) for first party Switch titles. It's 80$ CAD, blech. It's expensive for sure but video games are an indulgent hobby.

Is anyone else concerned about the price for ACNH?
$60 is a lot. I know that New Leaf goes for about $20 right now, but I was young when it came out and don't remember the price; was it that high? Are switch games normally that expensive (I don't own a lot of switch games)? What are everyone's thoughts on this?

No.

1. $60 is not a lot
2. $60 is the normal cost of a game.
3. It's Animal Crossing.
4. It's Nintendo Switch, not 3DS.

Yeah! It's crazy that you guys have to spend that much. Then again, I had to spend roughly $85 for my copy from EB.

I hate to get political but free healthcare doesn't pay for itself.

The way I generally judge a game is $1 = 1 hour of game time. Anything that a play for more hours than dollars I deem a really good purchase. I'm assuming most of us will get more than 60 hours out of New Horizons. Animal Crossing in general is unique because its generally a real-time game spread over a longer period of time than say an RPG or MMO where you play whenever.

So, yes, $60 is a lot but more than worth it.

I mean no offense, but the 1$ = 1 hour of gameplay is a bit silly. A game could be 100$ and only provide 20 hours of gameplay if not rushed and still be an incredibly good game.

The value of money is entirely based on opinions, and certain amounts are a lot to some people. 60$ is a lot to me, but I know I can make it work, so I'm OK spending that. Granted a Nintendo Switch game is 90$, but still. I'm fine with making the purchase.

Its up to the buyer whether they purchase or not.

I wouldn't dismiss people who are saying X amount of money is a lot, because it is for some people.

For some folks, they have extra ongoing expenses, like medical, etc.

Of course. I wasn't terribly specific but obviously a more story-based game will be at the same price with less gameplay time. But, for games that are sandboxes, real-time simulators, RPGs, basically anything with expansive content and/or great replay value, I like to use this a judge.

And I'm on U.S. dollars. Canadian/Australian money and other currencies will of course wouldn't scale as well to this.

I'm at the point where they could rob me blind and I would probably still buy it sadly. XD This game is liquid gold.

I see your point. I was referring as to the standard price of a game. Since the cost of any standard full sized next-gen game is $60, $60 is neither more or less. If they sold the game for $70 or $100 USD, that would be considered a lot.

It's a better value than a lot of way too overpriced Nintendo games and we'll be playing it more than most. It'll basically be $80 rather than $60 for me granted I don't have the online service at the moment.

New Leaf was $39.99 at launch, and that was seven years ago. And it was a handheld only game. I think the standard $60 rate is perfectly fair for a game like Animal Crossing where I know I'll be getting my money out of it and knowing there won't be another Animal Crossing after this for 5-10 years.

The amount of content present in New Horizons seems to be worth the asking price. Every game has been a full retail price.

The Gamecube game was $50 IIRC, though it came with a memory card.
Wild World was $30 (the price of a DS game at the time).
City Folk had a $50 version and a $65 version (with the microphone).
New Leaf was $40.

$60 is par for the course.

I actually saw that Walmart had a listing for City Folk, with the Mic for $129.99 earlier today, lol.

Was New Leaf only $35 USD right at the very beginning or something? I went to multiple stores to find it on release day (I hadn’t preordered) and it was $35 at each. And this article shows it being $34.99 on the eShop. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20..._leaf_pricing_emerges_on_north_american_eshop

I’m just confused, people keep saying it was $40 at launch so I feel like I’m having a Mandela effect lol.

So far, the (preordered) switch, SD card, case, stylus, and AC:NH have cost me $678 AUD.

:Face palm:
