Price of New Horizons

I don't see a problem with the game being $60 actually. I know that DS games were 39.99 I believe? But other games have been priced at $60 for the longest, at least for me. However, seeing that this game will give you more than 20-30 hours, I totally think that it is worth more than $60.

Don't tell Nintendo, but they could charge $100US, and I'd still buy it. Technically, I'm spending $360+tax because of the Special Edition console I don't need.

it?s $80 plus tax in canada - it?s more than what i paid for new leaf but it?s years worth of entertainment so it?ll likely be worth it c:

Nintendo games always cost a lot. They even charge 60 dollars for a re-release of a Wii U game. It's frankly ridiculous.

In the UK we have a lot of "trade in" shops and I see many Switch games not dropping below the ?40-mark pre-owned.

A brand new copy of NH is ?49.99 pretty much everywhere here and I actually think that's quite reasonable... I expect it to be a bit more expensive tbh.

60 euro is a normal price for a new game and it was always like that. A fullprice game can be between 50-60 euro and really I don't care at all. I have a lot of fun with the games I buy and they are worth it. Sometimes when I see my collection for my consols I wonder how many tousands I spent on games already in the past 20 years xD

Nintendo could charge me 200 euros and I would buy it haha

I think the price is fine knowing how much time I'll be spending on the game. The thing is, no one knows exactly how invested they'll be in a game to justify the price... but obviously AC Fans (and fans of other game franchises) will have no problem dishing that amount for a mainline game of their fandom. I very skeptically bought Splatoon 2 a year and a half after its release without really knowing much about the game... but now I have about 1700 hours of it played and I still play it! So definitely got my $60s worth. There are a few games I bought for $60 and I ended up reselling the cartridge after not feelin' the game so it's not too bad. Thankfully, ACNH is a game I know I'll be playing in the long run for sure!

why do people always complain about the prices of games? inflation is a thing and also games are a lot more high tech and high in demand than before lol

considering how you can get literal years of gameplay out of animal crossing titles i think the standard console price for the game is more than fair.

I don't think anyone is complaining. I think we are just saying games aren't dirt cheap, or that for some folks (younger people/parents), it might take a while to save for it, or any game. :)

Most AAA console games are $60. PS4, Xbox, and now Switch. Its standard. Game dev costs have actually gone up a lot compared to the game you got in the 90s.
The problem is PS4 games go on sales all the times. Like great sales. Nintendo games almost never become what you might call cheap of affordable.

But I agree that it's better to pay big price for amazing experience than to pay almost nothing and tolerate microtransactions.

No, I don't have "concerns" about the price. Seems fine to me. Given the many hundreds of hours I'll play, I'd even call it a bargain.

55? is great, I just preordered and will get an Animal Crossing NH sticker sheet and Animal Crossing NH microfibre cloth as extras.

These are the extras:

I am used to pay 60? for any kind of game. All the triple A titles my boyfriend wants for his computer are 60? + DLC. Any good Switch title was 60?. It's the usual price and I would have paid way more for Animal Crossing. In fact, the game could've cost 300? and I would still buy it on day 1, lol.

I've found some pretty good offers on some Switch titles. Got Mario Bros. U Deluxe for 30?. Gamestop constantly offers used games for a really good value. And Luigi's Mansion is only 48? just a few months after release. I'm not going to complain! :)

In which country? o_O
Used Nintendo games cost pretty much retail price at Gamestop here as far as I know, and the new ones are completely overpriced.

That's why I haven't bought anything at GameStop for years, maybe they have changed to actually be competitive...

it's around $80 here in Canada, and the only pre-order bonus I've seen is a poster !! it's better than nothing and I'll buy the game no matter what, but I wish we had something even remotely more interesting than glorified paper lmao

$60 is a lot, especially for people who might not be making a lot of money. However, for a game like Animal Crossing, that typically gives you SOOO MUCH game play, it is complete worth it. In Canada it is going to be $79.99 plus tax. In my province tax is 15%. So it will be $91.98 taxes in. But to me, totally worth it. A lot of new popular Nintendo games for the switch are usually all around $79.99. Some are in the $50-60 range. The price of Nintendo & their games is why it took me so long to buy a switch in the first place. It's also why a lot of my friends don't own one. They want one, but they find it more pricey then having a PS4. And I make less money then they do. Haha. But I also have been trying to get mostly everything on sale. I bought new Switch used off of someone to save money. And all games that I have except 1 (2 when AC comes out), I bought on sale. So I just try to be smart about it. Not buying too many games at once, and try to get them on Sale. However, I am not willing to wait for sales for some games. One would be Animal Crossing. The other was Luigi's Mansion 3.

New Leaf is cheaper now, but I am pretty sure it was close to the $50 mark when I first bought it. So the new is still more expensive, but its on a more expensive system and it seems like there will be more/better game play. I am so excited.

I think we should stop comparing the price of Switch games to the 3DS games. While technically the Switch can be played in handheld, it's not a handheld system. It's Nintendo's next gen gaming console. The Switch was not meant to replace or compete with the 3DS. It was meant to replace the Wii U. Nintendo's handheld systems have always had their own line. As such, the 3DS was not meant to replace the Wii, and the DS was not meant to replace the gamecube. While the Switch may be Nintendo's way to move away from handhelds, it is still a powerful console.

The 3DS was very cheap (not financially, but hardware wise), and the games were cheap too. Charging $60 for a 3DS game would be outrageous (not for AC though LOL). The gameboy, DS, and 3DS games have always been cheaper than Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, and Switch.

$60 USD is the set price for next gen console games, and it's no different for Nintendo Switch games. The fact that Nintendo isn't asking for more that the set price is good.

New Horizons is a full Animal Crossing game, and a brand new installment. This isn't a port, a remake, or a spin off (See Happy Home Designer, Pocket Camp, and Plaza).

$60 didn't just come out of nowhere either. That has been the standard cost of next-gen games for over 10 years. We should count ourselves lucky they haven't inflated this cost.

20$ wasn't cheap for me back then either. 60$ isn't cheap for me now either. My point is that games have been approximately this much for several years now so I don't understand why it's a surprise ?

This is a great point and probably why I know a bunch of people that are on the fence about getting it. If you've played it before and you know you're going to love it, $60 is definitely worth the amount of time you're going to play it. But if you're unsure whether it's going to be for you, $60 is a lot of money to waste on a game, even if that's the typical price rage for games now.
