Hi, hoping someone can help! I’ve two kids and two switches. Previously only had one AC game. When they wanted to play AC, they put the card into their own switch. They wanted to play together so I got another copy of AC today. But…new card doesn’t seem to be picking up previous save data for AC on that switch. Is there any way around this? Any help very much appreciated!

Save data is tied to the Switch itself, not the game card.
Your title says it's the same Switch, but your description says they have 2 separate Switch consoles? Which is it?
If the gamecard is from the same region, and both are using the same Switch, swapping out the card shouldn't matter at all. But if you're moving the same gamecard into a new Switch, you'll have fresh save data on it.

Hi thanks for your reply. Before today, 2 switches (1 and 2), one gamecard (old). Save data on both switches. After today, 2 switches, two game cards (old and new). But putting new gamecard into switch 2 today isn’t picking up previous save data from when child played game with old gamecard. Sounds like it should be picking up previous save data as it’s the same switch. Not sure why it’s not :-(
