Sending mail to another town (while not there)

I'd love for this feature! I'm 99% sure this was a thing in City Folk, but I haven't played in forever so I can't remember. But it would just use wi-fi and your friend would get the letter when they log in next.

In New Leaf you can only send a letter to another town while you're visiting, which kind of defeats the purpose of it most of the time.

I would absolutely love for this to make a return, to keep in touch with friends and send presents. Sure you could always text your friends, but there is something unique and charming about sending letters.


On a side note, at least the switch would have a form of message system LOL.

That would be really awesome. I play with my mom, so it'd be nice to be able to send her letters and gifts without having to go to her town. We can't always play at the same time .

Yess it would be so cool to be able to send letters to friends in other towns! You could invite people to your town and have convos omg, so many cool possibilities

CF managed this because it was able to connect without playing the game via WiiConnect24. I'm not sure if the Switch could manage something similar, but if it could it would be nice if this particular feature didn't require the online service, so you could still send and receive letters and gifts in a roundabout way without being able to visit.

This was the best thing that City Folk did that never made a return. It absolutely NEEDS to make a comeback as it was such a huge deal to be able to mail a friend a birthday gift right from your own town the night before their birthday.

That said, so that ones mailbox does not get filled up with the mail of other players, perhaps the introduction of a PO Box could help in mitigating the amount of mail? Because I know I for one would not want to have my mailbox full of player mail that prevents me from getting important letters from villagers and other in-game related content.

i feel like this is super easy to prevent, they could just make it so only best friends can send each other letters!

Just imagine how easy this feature would make forum trading and selling! I've never been much of a fan of buying things from others on the forum, just because of how difficult it was to be active as the same time as somebody else, not to mention the load times when travelling to others towns and going back.

There would probably also be a way to disable this feature, or only allow a select few people to remotely mail you things, kind of like how the best friend system works in new leaf.

Unless they find a way to prevent something like this. In New Leaf, as far as I know, certain
words are not allowed to use. If you try to use them, then you get a little warning that you
can't use such a word. Also, they could maybe make something like a report and blocked
option, like if you get letters from someone who is only rude to you then you can use these
options. And if someone only use the mail option for harassment, then they get warnings
until they get banned from this feature completely.

After all, I do think that they could create such a feature like sending mails to other players
but also take care on the other site that nobody abusing it just to make trouble. All they need
is a good concept. (Also, I like bad puns, so...)

Anyway, such a feature would be really helpful and it would be nice if the new game had
something like this to offer.

People have mentioned how great this would be for trading, and I was just thinking that it could be even better if they added mailable packages that you can use to bundle entire inventories of items together. Bulk trading, remotely!
You would obviously be able to attach letters to them, and you'd put items into the package at the Post Office while sending it so that you can't just use packages as extended inventories.

They could also add express shipping as well, for the cost of some bells, to instantly send your letters and packages over and streamline trading even further!

However I don't know how express shipping would work considering you would need your friend to be online at that moment in order for them to instantly get the package. Maybe it is only available if your friend is online.

I imagine that there'd be an option to automatically connect online as soon as you choose your character and then the game would ask Nintendo's servers in the background if there are any pending letters. Normally it'd wait to put those letters in your mailbox until the usual delivery times of 6am or 5pm, but if the sender chose express delivery it would appear in your mailbox as soon as you leave the house after loading.

That's probably how this feature would work, as the game would need to connect online at some point to see if any friends sent you letters. Express delivery would also instantly put the letters in your mailbox if you're already online, and if you're in front of your house when it arrives then you could watch Pete put the package/letter in!

Ah yeah I like the idea of being able to do a quick online scope every time you log in. For things like DLC and the like as well. That makes a lot of sense.

I really like this idea! I love getting mail from my villagers, and if I could get them from a friend randomly that would just make my day.
