If you couldn't tell from my profile, I'm a huge Zelda fan. (Makes you wonder why I joined an Animal Crossing forum in the first place...)

Anyway, I was looking through some Zelda games on the Nintendo eShop on my 3DS. Now I'm torn whether I should buy some or not.

I really wanna get A Link Between Worlds, it's the Zelda game I really want to get (aside from Wind Waker). And also Oracle of Ages + Seasons so I can have more Zelda games in my collection.

I do want to get these games in case they suddenly disappear from the eShop for some reason, and like I said I really wanna get A Link Between Worlds. But I also don't want to get them, because I wanna keep my money for Breath of the Wild 2. (Off-topic, but do Nintendo eShop cards expire? I have a feeling that it's gonna take a while for that game to release...) And besides, I have plenty of Zelda games I could beat. (I have 11 and only beat Breath of the Wild, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. And going on Link's Awakening and Twilight Princess if I could find the motivation.)

So should I buy those Zelda games or not? Let me know what you think! I kinda need the advice anyway-

get the oracle games on eshop, and albw you can find for quite cheap on ebay, just make sure it’s your correct regional version. i’ve always preferred the physical versions wherever possible :> (and idk if the eshop card expires, but it would be a travesty if they did @-@)

(Link Between Worlds was my first Zelda game and was what hooked, so warning this may be a little but biased)

Honestly it's depending on what you're looking for in a Zelda game. Link Between Worlds doesn't necessarily have an original story but the art style, sound track, and characters are all fantastic. It's quite easy to beat and a ton of fun. I found all the puzzles and dungeons fun rather than difficult and frustrating, and while some of them did take a hot second for me to complete I still enjoyed finishing it. Like I said the story isn't very original for a Zelda game and it has its flaws, but it's still very fun and exciting. i think the most unique mechanic of the game is the wall-merging stuff and it plays a big role along with being a fun way to progress throughout the game. With all this said you did say you are saving for BOTW 2, though I wouldn't expect that to come out until at least the end of august (at least idk i'm bad at estimating lol) and there's always time to earn more money. Anyway that's my advice!

Oracle of Seasons is more action and combat based, where Oracle of Ages is more puzzle based and will make you think really hard. I reccomend both tbh but seasons is more fun.

Link Between Worlds is very good too, more open world than most Zelda games

I recommend Wind Waker. I’m not the biggest Zelda fan, but I enjoyed Wind Waker a lot. It was one of my favorite games and it’s soundtrack is top tier. Also, I do not believe the eShop gift cards expire. That would be unfortunate if they did.

To answer your question about the eShop cards, they do not expire. As long as the eShop is open and has the option to add funds, eShop cards will work regardless of how long it's been since they were bought.

Can confirm this. I redeemed an eShop card almost a couple of years ago and didn't use the funds for months. When the time came to buy something, it came through without any issues.

In response to your questions, tumut summed it up nicely with those three games. Are there any other Zelda games you haven't owned yet? I'd personally recommend you try Minish Cap for the Gameboy Advance.

I would definitely recommend A Link Between Worlds, I rented that game for like a week back in 2014 and it's still one of the games on my 3DS with the most play time (and it has one of the highest average play times at around 5 hours per session). I actually need to get that game lol.

I haven't played Oracle of Ages/Seasons but I really like Link's Awakening and I think those games are basically a sequel to that one.

I’ve played Oracle of Ages and I liked it, however it’s quite an old game (20+ years) and because of that it will definitely be a much different experience than playing, say, A Link Between Worlds. Ages has a lot of puzzles and doesn’t hold your hand throughout, I played it maybe 5 or so years ago but I remember getting stuck a few times and having to look up what to do next lol. Definitely not in my top 5 Zelda games but worth playing if you’re a fan (and if you can buy it at a reasonable price). I’ve only played A Link Between Worlds briefly and I’ve never played Seasons so I can’t really speak on those.

Well, after today's news, now you know you've got over a year before you can't buy them anymore.

So the correct answer is to clearly get all of them, lol. I've played all 3 of ALBW, OoS, OoA and I've enjoyed all 3. I have a lot of nostalgia and fond memories for OoA and OoS, though I'd say ALBW is technically the best game of the 3. OoA/OoS do play similarly to LA, though obviously with their own central gimmick and with a story that requires you to play through both games to get the true ending to it. I'm unsure whether or not you've played ALttP, but if you have, you may enjoy ALBW more, given that it's set in the same world as ALttP. Between the three options (ALBW, OoS/OoA, or none), I'd probably go with ALBW first then pick up OoS/OoA later on when you can, but you can't go wrong either way.

Also, I don't expect BotW 2 to come out until November/December at the earliest, so you should have plenty of time until they release it and can save up any money necessary in order to buy it, in addition to being able to play and complete any Zelda game you pick up before then.
