After reading the replies, yes, I agree that a hurricane was going too far.

The idea I was trying to get at, is that I would like to see storms that maybe blow things around the island and you can help the villagers to find those items. So maybe their was a storm and the wind blew a wreath off one of the villagers doors, and you have to search the island for it and bring it back to the villager.

I'm gonna assume you've never experienced a severe hurricane IRL. There is nothing "cool" or "interesting" about the devastation they cause. Frankly this is in really poor taste considering what just happened to the Bahamas.

In any case, stuff can degrade and need repairs (and wash up on shore) without introducing natural disasters if that is a mechanic they want to include.

In general, I think that, in a game like Animal Crossing, severe weather like hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters are out of place and unnecessary. Animal Crossing is a really casual game, and real-life disasters shouldn't be included, in my opinion. The occasional thunderstorm is good enough.

You know hurricanes are awful, right?

People go into panic and buy literally everything from all the stores and gas stations and then those who didn't go into pre-panic mode get screwed over when the hurricane turns into a category 4 or 5 and they can't buy even a drop of water.

Then you have to decide to stay or leave but if you leave too late, your stuck on the highway.

And then when the hurricane comes, everything gets wrecked and your out of power for a week or so. Not to mention some people die.

Theres nothing fun about hurricanes.

I mentioned in a previous thread that I'd like see them in a form of something like wind blowing the villager around if they stand still and NPCs telling you to stay inside, but seeing how that would diminish the urgency and severity of an actual tropical storm, I doubt Nintendo would do that. Japan has a lot of experience with typhoons, so it might not be something they want to deal with in a game like this.

i dont think they should have hurricanes but i think it would be nice to have a severe storms like lots of lightning and thunder and wind and lots of waves with a ton of rain

That'd be terrifying tbh..
honestly it doesnt fit the image of animal crossing,,since its a game that gives positive vibes

i wouldnt mind other forms of weather like, thunder storms or the very windy days we see,,,just not something destructive like that

I don't think hurricanes are gonna be a thing in the game. It's something nobody wants to deal with,
both IRL and in a video game.

Wind storms that can scatter materials from the trees and possibly rocks? yes, a full blown hurricane that could damage property? no.

They have typhoons and such in Harvest Moon games. I wouldn't mind it, but I wouldn't want to be stuck inside the whole time. We have hurricanes where I'm from and they're pretty boring. I wouldn't want to risk getting stuck in one real life, booting my game up, and getting stuck in one there too.

im just worried about the villagers. will their houses or tents be okay?

that would be really terrible, no offense to you.
animal crossing is a peaceful, time killing game, so i think natural disasters of some sort would just throw away the peace of it.
ntm, it can cause alot of anxiety about if your house is going to be destroyed, or all of your progress gone.

Yeah. In Harvest moon you literally cannot go outside and you're basically forced to sleep the day away. It damages your farm, makes your animals sick or kills them if they strike at a time that you can't get the Sprites to help you, throws off your rhythm for gifting NPCs, destroys your crops, etc.. That kind of storm you wouldn't want in an Animal Crossing game that depends on real time to play.

Damn, I forgot how brutal Harvest Moon sometimes was...

I agree with most replies, it'd be a feature of the weather system not many people would probably want to experience in-game. I think the extreme winds you see in the trailers is sufficient enough to bring some sort of diversity to the otherwise still atmosphere of the environment.

Why’s everyone being such snowflakes? Pok?mon literally has moves called earthquake and hurricane

I wouldn’t want the weather to be so bad that it destroys towns but heavy winds and rain does sound cool ..not to make light of hurricanes (which I’ve experienced many of in my life (no where nearly as bad as the stuff you see on tv))

I would actually like to see a feature sort of like this, because I think it would be an excellent balance to the high levels of customization this game will allow for. If done properly, a feature like this could have a very slice-of-life feel to it that Animal Crossing games are known for.

The way I would like to see it implemented, if at all, is a scenario such as this. When you start your game and exit the house, your character shows the surprised emotion (the same one when there are roaches in the house) and a dialog bubble pops up (Bebebese) stating something like "It looks like a storm blew through here last night!" You will find furniture placed around the island moved to random locations (possibly in leaf form, as well as actual dropped form) from the wind. Paths would also be randomly damaged. None of this would be severe, and no items would disappear or be damaged. It would be a routine chore (in an Animal Crossing sense) to put things back to the way they were.

It would be even further interesting if the villagers began spreading rumors about the potential for a big storm before it happens. For example, "So, <player name>, did you hear the forecast? I heard that on the 18th, a big storm might blow through! I hope none of my flowers get ruined, <catchphrase>." Of course, I think that given a date, one of three things should happen: i) the storm never actually comes; ii) the storm is 24 to 72 hours late, or iii) it arrives on the date specified.

I think this could be a fun feature if it is implemented with the typical Animal Crossing charm.
