According to this YouTube video Nintendo has removed the Nature Day Event. If anyone doesn't remember it was the event that made you do limited Nook Mile tasks and this was added during the time the game was out from 2020.

Huh, seems like an oversight to me. Probably broke something in a patch and didn't realize the event was locked. If the removal is intentional it's a baffling decision considering New Horizons is already painfully lacking in fleshed out events.

This is sad and not good that they removed it but I NEVER LIKE SAYING THIS BECAUSE MORE IS ALWAYS BETTER IN AN AC GAME BUUUUUT I do not think I would have noticed........................................... especially since I do not play ACNH everyday anymoreeee

For 2 weeks Nintendo celebrated Nature Day and than went back to cutting down trees for Nook Miles.
This could be a reason it got removed or the Event was added only for the new items.

As mentioned already, Nature Day has been removed since last year. We get the "cool globe" Nook Shopping item as replacement instead.

It wasn't? That is really odd.
Pretty sure it was their way of padding the game until they had the time to update it. The game had only been out for a month or so and the pandemic hit full swing. So it was probably their last ditch effort to throw something together until they were ready.

If that is the case that is a pretty dumb decision considering how 2021 was the most lackluster year for this game up until the 2.0 update came by November.

:/ what a bummer. i actually didn’t fully realize that its been missing from the game since 2020 until recently (probably because i sometimes feel like it’s 2020 still and not 2022 💀), but i just… don’t understand why they would remove it? like, it seems like nintendo’s trying to replace all these small events/holidays (nature day, summer/winter solstice, etc) with seasonal items instead of giving us actual celebrations like they did in new leaf, and it kind of sucks.

i hope that this is maybe just an oversight like @/Firesquids said, but i doubt it since i can’t really see an accidental patched-out event going undetected for 2 years.

That's disappointing because I didn't have the game on Nature Day 2020 :( I wish they'd bring it back but maybe they just wanted it to be a one-time thing to celebrate the game's release.

does that mean the diy hedges can't be obtained if you started over or just got the game?
I think Leif gives it to you when he's selling at the RS. You just need to spend a certain amount and be deemed a long-time customer or something. Honestly it would had been cool if they kept it in and had the hedge be the gift for finishing the event. Getting rid of it when the game is so lacking in events is really stupid on their part. They did it to pad timing when the game was lackluster launch, but it really still needs it since it's so lacking in holidays/events.

i don't see the point in removing it. i mean they had to go out of their way to remove the code in a patch, why? doesnt serve any purpose
It also wastes time. They could have not developed it that way to begin with since it is no longer running now. And many companies view time as money so you could say they also wasted money.

I'd hope so. The hedge fencing is loved and used by many people. It is alot more convenient than planting actual shrubs in a line.

Well, that is definitely weird. I hope it was just some mistake.
If it was an actual decision, I would want to know why.

Nintendo 'has an interest in NFTs' and it wouldn't make sense for them to celebrate Earth/nature day in the same sentence. I don't know lol.

I don't think they necessarily had to do a lot to remove it, even just blocking out the code in less than 5 minutes would be enough. My guess is that they wanted to make it special or a one-off for some reason. I wonder if at some point they were planning on having more "one-off" events and those plans got scrapped because of the pandemic.

I don't think anyone expects companies to be consistent about that kind of stuff. In any case there are NFTs using blockchains that waste a lot less energy, so if anything, they could explore that and make some kind of nature-themed tie in. My guess is that they just didn't plan ahead for what to do with the holiday or how to replace it etc.
