Spectre in the Study [SOLUTION POSTED]

yeah, if we're on about the same section, it's a massive oversight if there's no alternative. hopefully they'll add one if there isn't already?
I know what you’re talking about and I wish there was some alternative. I don’t want to stress too much over this event… I struggle with text based games and riddles. 😞

the clues aren't in there for everyone alike, that's literally the point? i also never said you worked twice as hard. might be worth giving the post a reread. like i said, i didn't use [redacted] either, it was completely useless to me, but that doesn't mean it wasn't and won't be useful for other people -- an opportunity/advantage certain disabled folk don't have the privilege of having, and with no alternative in place. it's clearly making a difference for some people, because they've commented on it, and i don't really think it's your place to decide that's not true. if the staff don't want to provide an alternative, that's up to them, i can't change their minds, i'm just putting the idea out there because i think it's worth mentioning.
Like I said, thanks for bringing it up and being mindful about it. I did reread your post since I missed a "post-merge". Essentially what I'm saying is that this game could stay the same, just remove [the big issue] and it would still be solvable... that's all I'm saying. I'm not trying to make less of anyone elses circumstances. This is a place where we can talk about our views and voice our opinions, I voiced mine and you did too. You're talking about unfair advantages and I'm just looking at it from a different point of view "what if no one had that advantage? Would it still be solvable?". I get it, it all boils down to the fact is that we do have that [big issue] and since we DO have it, then different abled people SHOULD also have something regardless of how helpful it is to them or not... all I was trying to do was offer a different perspective and let people know it's solvable with or without it. I'm not trying to get on my high horse or make decisions for people, all I hoped was to encourage others to look for clues elsewhere and not get too tied up in [big issue] especially if they're different abled. Hopefully staff can clarify this later.

I cannot believe it but I got all of it!!
I was really struggling there for both parts but after reading some posts here about brute force and I just tried that and it worked!
First day down, four more to goo!

also ended up brute forcing it, but now it's done! really great job in the end, it was a fun game and had a really good, spooky little atmosphere to it. great for putting someone in the Halloween mood!

Potential alternatives in our events have always been something that we handle privately with the affected member. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis and we also do a thorough background check on the member's post history to ensure consistency in their claim. There are also some events where there is no way to offer an alternative without making it unfair on the other participants.

If you have already found 2/3 codes and have a very specific disability that is reasonably hindering your ability to finish the game, please make a thread in Contact the Staff and we will investigate your case and see what we can do to help. Please note that contacting us is not a guarantee you will be provided with an alternative and it may take some time to hear back from us.

In future, please contact the staff privately if you have a concern about an event, or wait for a response if you have asked a question publicly, before complaining about something numerous times and across multiple threads. This sours the tone and brings down the overall enjoyment of the event for both other participants and the staff hosting these events. Thank you.

@Mistreil when writing in commands, does capitalisation and punctuation matter

also thankyou for letting me eat something that tasted kk
Punctuation and capitalization don't matter!

i know i can't post specifics, but while this game was great fun, there was a core part of it that seems really unfriendly towards certain disabled folk. (i can't say which kind, because that would spoil it?) i was wondering, out of curiosity, if there's actually an alternative for that or?

completely stuck because i can't get through one aspect (which i won't specify bc spoilers) but having a great time trying to eat everything in sight <3 thanks for this, mistreil!

i think i know what part this is referring to because i'm pretty sure it's the part i'm stuck on bc i can't [redacted for spoilers] -- seconding the question about if there's an alternative
The event is really fun 'n cute for the most part: however, i'm struggling a lot on certain part of the puzzle for reasons I won't go into. If there's an alternative for this or if it can be modified to be more easily accessible, that'd be great.

This is otherwise super cute and quirky: reminds me of the 'choose-your-own-adventure' books i've read as a kid!
I think I have an idea of where this is, but can you PM me to let me know and confirm? Just in case there's more things I didn't notice. I can definitely modify the game to make parts of it more accessible if there are problems!

I believe I've caught up with reading everything that happened overnight. Thanks for all of your feedback! I am definitely keeping an eye on things and revising/fixing bugs and flaws as needed. The problem I believe was mentioned will have a hint put in later today (which previously existed but got lost amidst my many revisions.) Sorry about that!

In the future, please PM me if there are problems! It makes it easier for me to see and address, and you can be as specific as you like there. I definitely want this event to be doable for everyone!

I figured it out - I just missed something which was what caused me to have so much difficulties. Once I found that it was a pretty simple solve! Thanks for putting this together, it was a really cute contest. :D

You feel the room change ever so slightly, as some bugs run out of the room.
What would a game be without bugs, after all?

Thanks for your patience, and sorry for any inconveniences in the game! I've made a few fixes to the game. Please note that these do not affect anyone who has already finished the game, nor the tasks needed to complete the game.

I can't be too specific with the patch notes, so I'm trying to write them such that "if you know, you know."

Patch v1.0.1 (10/24/2021 @ 9:30AM EDT)
  • Replaced a certain "that which" message with something more clear
  • Made the certain "that which" message consistent in all places it appears
  • Added a note that punctuation and capitalization do not matter*
  • Replaced a certain "Please turn on ..." message with something more nifty
  • Added notes about contacting the exterminator if any bugs are spotted
* Disclaimer: Punctuation and capitalization are still important in formal writing. The lack of importance of grammar in this game is not reflective of their importance in other circumstances.

That was fun! Got stuck for a little while but managed to redeem both codes :) Thanks for creating this, Mistreil!

What a way to wake up the brain in the morning! WHOO!
Thank you for patching the game; it made the difference for me, lol.

Ahhh the atmosphere was soo creepy. It reminds me of one of those haunted text-based games I'd read about on the creepypasta website when I was younger. (pale luna anyone??) I really enjoyed it. Thank you for another fun game Mistreil.

this was such a cool idea for the event!!! i'd love to do a text-based adventure like this again, it was really well made. i thought the assets for it were really cool too, but despite finishing it i still can't tell what one of the assets was (thankfully it was irrelevant to the answer). i hope i can find out when the event's over!
