Are you in northern or southern hemisphere? If northern, I believe you can catch snapping turtle in river after 9pm. If southern, I believe you can try for a spider crab swimming in the ocean. I'm in the same boat, don't have a tankless critter but hoping to catch one. Good luck.

No snapping turtles, only soft shelled ones.
