Switch cloud saves unsupported in New Horizons

If Nintendo thinks their machines are immune to parts malfunction they really need to remove their head from the clouds (okay no pun intended) Your consoles are no different than a phone, tablet computer etc...

Seriously! Wasn't there a whole thing where Japanese players towns were getting corrupted because of some glitch right when acnl came out back in 2012 over there? Things break and get stolen. Sony and Microsoft understand that people want to backup their games. I don't get why Nintendo insists on being so backwards with this.

While I do understand a lot of people like manipulating their games, I don't think this is the main reason for them doing it. They definitely want to prevent duplication of items.

And for what? Animal Crossing is not a competitive game. People who cheat or use exploits in this game only cheat themselves. This will just hurt players who don't use external resources to backup their saves. :s

I mean, it sucks we can't back up our island and player for potential issues but this is still no different from New Leaf. We couldn't back up anything there. We'll make do with what we're given.

Yeah, players who really want to backup their saves by whatever means necessary will be able to. That is for certain. But I also believe it's fair to expect Nintendo to offer save backups by now when
1. They advertise cloud backup as a feature for their online subscription service.
2. Their competitors have allowed players to backup their saves for like, a decade now.
I like Nintendo a lot, so I wish they'd just... be better. (The 3ds should have let us backup our saves too.)

Well Said! :)

Yes, this is true but a lot of games that don't feature cloud saves are games that are able to abuse save scumming. Splatoon 2 for instance. You can just save scum slot rerolls. Nintendo prevents this by not allowing cloud saves. Now, Animal Crossing isn't competitive like Splatoon 2 by all means but not everyone WANTS to cheat to feel equal to others who do. So to make the playing field equal, they don't allow cloud saves to prevent save scumming.

I am certain Pokemon Sword and Shield will not support it either for this same reason. It's a little silly, but completely understandable and I respect Nintendo for making these choices.

They pride themselves on accomodating to people with a variety of different lifestyles with work/personal life/school... If they DID get rid of time travel -- and I doubt they would be so silly to do such a thing -- then that would be a slap in the face to people who have other lives. Sometimes something happens in the game at a certain time in the day and you miss it because you actually have a job, or class, or a family. Just because I have things to do during the day doesn't mean I should be able to ONLY play at night time in the game, when all the events are over and the shops are closed and the animals are asleep. That would blow really hard. I doubt they'd be that foolish.

Whether others play "in the spirit of the game" is not relevant to me as a consumer.
I actually agree that playing in real time is at the game's core, but in no way should that take priority over the security of people's saves.

My personal opinions on time manipulation are complicated, but I can say with certainty that the hours I invest in these games is worth a hell of a lot more than some duped in-game items.

(Regardless of my own beliefs on manipulating the time, I also don't think it's fair to remove a feature that people have come to enjoy and expect. The way it was handled in previous titles definitely encouraged players to make their own choices, and I hope that they will still be able to going forward)

What bothers me is that they know that an animal crossing town is very personal and takes YEARS to finish. Why are they okay with screwing over 99% of the player population just so they can stop the 1% who cheats? And who cares if they cheat, it's not like there's a leaderboard or ranking system that they could manipulate, it's literally just duping items ffs. Nintendo continues to prove itself oblivious to what actually matters.

Honestly what's the point of offering cloud saves when the big games that need it refuse to use it. Like how is cheating in NH gonna affect anything anyways? It's not a competitive at all lol

Yeah but the 3ds saves to the game cartridge.

Your new horizon town and switchs lifetime are intertwined now. And with a game like animal crossing where people can easily invest 1000s of hours into it, I can see this being a problem.

I'm aware of that but how often does a console really break. Sure it happens but I never had any Nintendo console of mine break in the past EXCEPT for my 3DS.

Idk anything can happen.

The switch being part handheld just increases the chance that one day I end up dropping it and it stops working.

Once the revision comes out, there will probably be an app to allow you to transfer things over just like transferring the Wii data to Wii U and 3DS data to the n3DS, so that'll help with transferring to a new system. As for if your system breaks, that's another story. Likely depends if the output is usable and you can still use it docked (if it's just the screen).

I really hope they reconsider, or at least figure out a way to make it fair for everyone. I wouldn't mind any alternatives they have to save backups but anything is better than nothing. Plus I pay for this service and besides playing Smash online, there's not much else I can do with it.

The switch is such a stupid system. They charge us for Cloud Saves which are literally the only way to back up data but then AC, Pokemon (I kind of understand but it doesn't stop dupers), Splatoon (I don't understand why we don't have server side saves), ect don't support them. I was going to pre-order the game but between this, the one island thing, and what sounds like all my Amiibo cards becoming useless I'm not enthused. I'm just waiting for them to toss in Micros at this rate (after all why else are they so concerned about people duplicating items?)

This is pretty disappointing. Although I understand why they'd do this, I'm just getting more and more worried about the game everyday new info comes out.

I'm disappointed. I was hoping Cloud Saves could save players from the heartache of file corruption

no cloud saves plus saving on internal storage is a really bad combination.

couldn't they at least put some limit on cloud saves? like you can only load it once every few months? it wouldn't really prevent the cheating problem entirely, but it would be much less effective while still giving everyone the safety of their backed up town.

If you look closely, you can see the sales of this game dropping like a rock......

Although I know a lot of people are still going to buy it, but I see a lot of people are a less enthused about this game now than back when the trailer for it came out. Myself included. I'm not a fan of games that auto save, if that's what they are going to add.

I don't see how one cheats in this game when no one is really competing with each other. This is Animal Crossing, not World of Warcraft. Just because a few people abuse the TT system doesn't mean everyone should be punished for it.

People have lives, they have school, they have work, they have kids, they have emergencies, consoles break, they get stolen. Why punish people for stuff they have no control over by not allowing them to back up their saves or time travel to participate in an event they missed out on because they had work in real life? That's not right. It's not.
