Switch cloud saves unsupported in New Horizons

People have lives, they have school, they have work, they have kids, they have emergencies, consoles break, they get stolen. Why punish people for stuff they have no control over by not allowing them to back up their saves or time travel to participate in an event they missed out on because they had work in real life? That's not right. It's not.

I don't think they're disabling Time-Traveling entirely. The way I read it is they were concerned about people getting items, handing them out, and then using their old saves in the cloud to get those items back. You can essentially hand out an infinite number of rare items this way.

... I'm just waiting for them to toss in Micros at this rate (after all why else are they so concerned about people duplicating items?)

I've had this same thought about this news. Surely, though, they would not be willing to risk the bad press this would cause them. Animal Crossing has been a top ten seller on every console it's been on except for the Wii. If they're planning to make a fully featured title, it will sell just as well as every game aside from City Folk and Amiibo Festival. They won't need the money or headache microtransactions will bring.

Hopefully this post ages like wine and not milk.

Yeah, players who really want to backup their saves by whatever means necessary will be able to. That is for certain. But I also believe it's fair to expect Nintendo to offer save backups by now when
1. They advertise cloud backup as a feature for their online subscription service.
2. Their competitors have allowed players to backup their saves for like, a decade now.
I like Nintendo a lot, so I wish they'd just... be better. (The 3ds should have let us backup our saves too.)

yes, this!! since the option for cloud saves is now a thing, there's no reason not to use it, especially since its advertised with the online service.

I just saw on Twitter that #cloudsavesforanimalcrossing is a thing now.

That is incredibly disappointing, especially as your island is supposedly saved to your Switch itself! If it gets broken that would mean you'd lose everything. I hope it saves to the SD card instead, as that's what I'm using as I only get digital games. But even then, if the SD card was destroyed and you hadn't backed it up for a while... :(

I don't have Switch Online yet but I am planning on getting it in March when New Horizons releases for the online.. would have been great if backups were included.

Unfortunately, in the Switch, all game data is saved inside the Switch's internal storage :( the only way to backup Switch games is via the cloud! This was bothering us so much, we started a petition! So far, we have a little over 2,000 signatures. I really hope Nintendo can find a way to compromise with us :(

Really? If that's the case, then what's the point of having cloud backup saves in the first place, especially when you already paid for the online service? Why does Nintendo have to worry about the minority of the group doing this...

Agreed! And I can't think of another game that needs backup as much as this one :(

I'm aware of that but how often does a console really break. Sure it happens but I never had any Nintendo console of mine break in the past EXCEPT for my 3DS.

Well, it's not just that it can break, being a portable device the Switch is vulnerable to being dropped, stolen and indeed broken or corrupted. There are also other situations that could damage it, like an electrical power surge or any other accident. Also, if your Switch ever needs to be sent for repairs, it's very likely that they'll wipe your Switch.

How would they get rid of time travel? Would there no longer be a game clock or console clock that could be set to a different time during game play?

I said "I don't think they're disabling Time-Traveling entirely." But if they wanted to get rid of it entirely, they could easily force you to connect to an online server whenever you want to change the time. As in, have it detect your location and update the in-game time based on that. It'd allow you to play the game offline, but prevent you from changing the clock on your own.

They should let us upload unsupported saves and only give us the option to download them if our console has been flagged as repaired

I don't want cloud saves. I'd prefer to be able to save to an SD card, if they aren't making saving in-game a thing (and it should be).

My French is a little rusty but I can understand the gist of what they?re saying. Maybe a native French speaker can offer better insight, but here?s some tidbits I picked up on:

-There will not be a real life phone app to connect to the nook phone, but like they will draw on the switch online app for voice chat.
-You normally play the game docked but they?re taking full advantage of all functions of the switch.
-They?ve been attentive to fan reactions and watched the Direct reactions in the NY store
-Reiterating custom designs are back like in new leaf
-Reiterating no direct link to pocket camp, and they don?t want players to choose one game over another (?)
-they?re thinking about both adults and kids playing the game and how they can adapt playing to their schedules while still keeping the spirit of animal crossing. They want to implement Something similar to the early bird and night owl ordinances I think.
-you?re able to see kk in concert every Saturday!

Feel free to add on or correct me if I?ve misunderstood something. :)

Thank you for translating! This is really helpful. Yay, KK concerts! Wouldn't it be great to have an outdoor park concert, to go with the new theme? KK around the campfire <3 <3

I've spent a few hours reading some complete horror stories of people losing everything because their Switch broke, or it wouldn't wake up. Losing hundreds of hours over several games they put all that time in to.

I don't think Nintendo should be punishing everybody just because SOME people may hack their game.
It especially sucks for me, as I don't know the first thing about hacking and have no interest in it.

I've thought about it and getting a Switch for any game, while games currently can't be saved on the cartridge or to an SD card, is just too much of a risk.

The thought of putting in a year of my life on a town that could be gone at any given moment, because, God forbid; it breaks, and my only save file is on my broken console, makes me feel sick. :-/

Consoles do break, and they break often.
They could also be faulty, or the internal memory gets fried for whatever reason.

Nintendo will lose many potential customers, and I hope they do, and it wakes them up.

Listen to what we want.

So, sadly. that's it for me until other means to save become available.

For what does Nintendo even offers the whole Cloud save thing if every game where this feature would
be really REALLY helpful gets not supported anyway? It's already a pain in the butt with Splatoon 2, now
the same problem with Animal Crossing too? Wow, thanks Nintendo... For nothing.
