Tarot

Hello! I'm between the rough draft and final draft on my tarot deck, I was wondering if anyone would be happy to PM about it with me to see what's working/not working with it? Would vvv much appreciate it 💕
If you're still looking for feedback, I'd be happy to help. :)

I Love tarot reading and have been doing so for a couple of years now. However, I consider myself an amateur still as I had trouble really connecting with the deck I had [ interpretation] without having to look up the meaning. I have been getting better recently after acquiring a new deck though.

I use;

The Everyday witch tarot for mundane questions

Spirit Song Tarot and Gaia oracle cards for path working, meditation and higher Guidance.

The Rider-Waite tarot cards for in-depth readings [ Though I am thinking of replacing these with a different tarot deck]

They have always helped me and my family in times of confusion and dream work. I have found they can also help inspire for Art/stories/etc...

I've never done tarot myself before, but I have commissioned readings from people in the past. There are a couple threads (or at least, were) on Flight Rising where people will do it for you. I always found their readings to be insightful and accurate, which is crazy considering the person on the other end of the computer knows nothing about me! I have found it a bit difficult to interpret the result of the readings though.

I think some of the card sets are very pretty, but I don't know if I would personally read them enough to justify buying a nice set for myself. I've seen fandom based tarot cards before that were cool, but I'm not sure if that would be considered inappropriate given that tarot seems to have a more serious nature? I know people have designed/sell Animal Crossing tarot for example!

You don't necessarily need to be a tarot reader or take them as such to buy a deck you really like, you can buy them if they are pretty or to help inspire you day by day. Tarot cards actually began as a card game and is still used as such by some. There are many who also like to collect them, even I am tempted to buy different decks as a collection 😣.
They are all so pretty!....

Anyway, great to see other fellow tarot users here!✨

I’ve recently started with tarot myself, not used my deck too much, waited a month or so to bond with it before I started using it, I have the Ethereal Visions deck, by Matt Hughes, and it’s stunning. I’ve also included a photo i took of my first interview/draw with it, and was wondering if anyone had some more insight into what it all means :D

The cards I drew:

The questions with the numbers:

1 - Tell me about yourself,
2 - What are your strengths as a deck,
3 - What are your limits as a deck,
4 - What are you here to teach me,
5 - How can I best learn and collaborate with you,
6 - What is the potential outcome for our relationship.

I love the Art Nouveau style of the cards! Feels very fitting with Tarot in general due to how Art Nouveau was a movement that tried to to find beauty through the return of nature, which meant having to use lots of organic shapes and curves through design.

I love art nouveau and art deco which is part of what drew me to the deck 🥰🥰

Reviving this thread because I finally did a big reading with the Star Spinner deck I got for Christmas, and it's so ridiculously beautiful ~

The reading is regarding where I am at the end of last year/start of this year. I loved the central dynamic of the Devil being crossed by the Chariot - really interesting ideas of duality, hedonism verses idealism, and embracing/meeting with the shadow self in order to move forwards coherently as a whole ~

I have the Fae and the Ferns deck which is actually really cute. (I had to steal this picture from the Etsy listing since I didn’t have any pictures of my own and I’m at work hehe)

I find tarot reading to be a great way to reflect and discover how you really feel.

Oh! This deck is so beautiful 💕💕💕
And yee, I definitely find tarot a wonderful way to refect, I often journal for paaaages after a reading :')

I've been so fascinated by tarot for so long and would absolutely love to get into it but for whatever reason I haven't yet - I just was going with the superstition that you shouldn't buy your own tarot deck, but I've started looking into it more and I might just take the plunge and do it. It seems like such a good way to reflect (as said above) and again, I just think it's so interesting the connection you can form with it

If you find a deck calling to you, you buy it! You make that deck your own, and one day you may pass it to someone else. Having a tarot deck given to you is amazing, but where did that person get it? They likely bought their first deck too! You can use a regular old notebook for journaling your interpretations but there are also “tarot journals” if you want a more structured journal. If you write a LOT, a premade journal might not be the best way to go though.

you're right!! I'm defo going to do a bit more research into this and try to find a deck I like. I already have a journal/notebook I use for manifestations etc so it seems like it'd fit in nicely there. might be back here in the near future with some interpretations to share!

There’s lots of videos on YouTube of people flicking through different decks a card at a time, this always helps me get a feel for if the deck will suit me. I have certain cards that I feel strongly about so am often particularly curious about how those are interpreted :’)
Hope you have fun exploring and picking out a first deck! Happy to discuss decks if you need any help deciding 💕

I'm basing my final art project on tarot cards and fortune telling :] I didn't care that much for tarot cards previously but now I'm obsessed! I'm still doing research on the whole topic but so far, I'm definitely going to look further into it after my project. I really want to design my own set of cards when I get some free time :0

Oh do you think you’d feel comfortable enough to show us when you are finished? I’d love to admire your artwork!

Aww! It really is such a cute deck, they even have holographic decks if that’s your thing, but the matte ones (the ones I have) are still really pretty and give good readings.

What if... I designed my own deck and had each card represented by somethin that represented that cards meaning. Haha jk... unless...?

I'm still very interested in tarot, but in order to actually get a deck I'd maybe have to go to a new age store which I'm not entirely comfortable asking my parents to drive me to. I've seen decks for fandoms at random places but the fandoms they're made for aren't fandoms I'm really in to. So instead I would make my own deck based on fandoms I'm actually into, critically analyze each cards meaning and which thing in said fandom best accurately represents that card. That way it'll so make it easier for me to remember which card means what. Rn I've been thinking about either using Alice in Wonderland or Coraline as a basis.

A lot of bookstores have decks, which might be worth checking out. Back in the day (yes, I'm dating myself), I found plenty at the local Borders. Pretty sure I've seen them at B&N, and it's always worth checking with independent stores. If you find one online that you really love, you can always check and see if they could order it in so you can pick it up.

Designing your own is awesome, so that's just another option.

So, I got notice that a new deck just got delivered. I'll have to take a peek when I get home. It was one I got through Kickstarter, called Lunaria. It's specifically designed for writers (Strength is Aslan, The Magician is W.B. Yeats, etc.).

Suits are: Cups = Inkwells; Swords = Pens; Wands = Quills; Pentacles = Pages (as in paper).
Court cards are: Pages = Seekers; Knights = Apprentices; Queens = Artists; Kings = Mentors.
