The ACNH Rant Thread

If I can remember, nobody was aware of COVID until 2020 when the pandemic started. Nintendo planned on releasing the game in March 2020 all the way back in June 2019, before the pandemic started. I think the reason why they released it unfinished was because they didn’t want time travelers having a huge advantage over other players.
Which is funny because Time Travel has been a thing for the longest time in most AC games. I know Time Travel is a controversal thing in the AC Community and there should be no shame to those who play however they want to play, but in a way I can sorta understand Nintendo's reasoning for doing that but even still some of the features that were missing like the Dream Suite and Swimming were not there at launch and they were added by August 2020.

It kinda sucks that everyone gets punished because of how a few bad apples ruin things. If someone is abusing a feature, and it’s within moderator control, just that person gets punished. But if it’s beyond moderator control, the feature gets nerfed or revoked. And it doesn’t matter if they’re trying to make everyone a winner. Someone will always be better than others, and someone will always be behind. That, and time travelers aren’t always trying to be competitive. They want to play for their own benefit.

I'm not gonna lie, "game announced to be released in March 2020 nine months beforehand was rushed to be released in a global pandemic that had its first outbreak four months after that announcement and only really started being a major issue in the months leading up to release" is a take I've never heard before.
They could've done so much more with this game any way you try to slice it.

I think people were aware of covid in 2019, but people just weren't taking it seriously. 'It was just that thing that was somewhere else and could possibly never reach me.' And then it did and it exploded.

Personally I don't think we will ever get the whole message as to why they released the game the way they did. Nintendo is never transparent. It can be quite frustrating at times. Time traveling was not the issue as to why things were released the way they were. At least I don't think so. People data-mining the game found clues that there was a lot of stuff they had as early as 2020/launch. The villager's even had lines talking about the Roost and coffee, but were promptly deleted after March 2020 and they never came back. People have evidence of these lines.

A lot of the game is very grindy in the worst way. Like gathering seasonal diy through balloons. I could go on, but so much of the game is geared towards sinking time in artificial ways. So they had planned on these delays from the start if they created the game to be such a grind.

Holidays were also time locked via real time and when Nintendo got around to updating it. This is not the case anymore. I'm certain they already had the holidays finished but were holding the little bit of content they did have hostage to keep us coming back. It's really weird the way they handled this game. The fact that the game has a 50/50 divide speaks volumes to this.

speaking of streetlamps, I hate that this one isn't bigger and that my character/villagers can't stand underneath it!

I legit though that was an overhead shower lol.

You know what really bothers me? How obnoxious the music is. I have to put down a handful of radios with some KK song just so the background music can shut up for 2 seconds so I can listen to the music uninterpreted. And even then it's like the background music is trying to fight so it can be heard like some craved-attention loon. 'Look at me!!! Look at me!!! Why aren't you noticing me!?'

oh soooo same on this. why is it!!! so very!!!! loud!!!!!!!
it's really disruptive imho. why have radios and encourage us to create soundscapes with items if we can't....hear any of it over the background score. sound leveling is so off in ACNH, imho 😵

Yeah it's super annoying. I used KK dirge or some spooky song around this creepy forest and haunted library theme I was going for. I had to put out so many skull radios. I even dug tiers (which took forever) to put a few on tier 1 (below ground level) and made it look like it was part of a dug/but not buried grave plot with creepy ghost hands coming out.

And still it's like *spooky music setting the scene---Duh duh DUN DUN DUUUhhasdfki---creepy musi--afdjkdfjafd*

New Horizons is the first Animal Crossing OST I wasn't a fan of, which is disappointing. They tend to be so relaxing!

I'm also 5ever lamenting no Tortimer Island. It made multiplayer actually fun instead of just trading items.

Yeah plus the waterfalls are super obnoxious. They should've known they needed to tone down that white noise.

Yea the hourly music is way too loud. I would love to be able to turn the hourly music off. It’s crazy how many radios you have to out down to try and block it out.

I always mute my TV whenever I'm playing ACNH and having background music playing from YouTube.

That’s a good idea and I should probably start doing this . It’s annoying when your trying to find a mole cricket that relies on sound and you can’t hear it over the music. I finally caught one but it took longer then I thought it would. It’s the same for balloons I have a hard time finding them since the music drowns them out.

I still haven't gotten over how poorly the whole seasonal DIY thing was handled in this game. The Halloween event was a perfect example of how to do them right, and I really wish they had kept up with that going forward. Instead, they continued to keep them locked entirely behind balloons and insane RNG. The worst for me was Toy Day. All of the Festive stuff, including the trees, were balloon locked. As a result, I didn't even find my first piece until late at night on December 24, and my second didn't appear until the last possible day they were available... in January. I would've loved to have been able to decorate for the holiday before it happened, and not after! It was an Animal Crossing tradition for me to deck my house out with festive furniture well in advance of Toy Day, but I wasn't able to even come close to being able to do that in New Horizons. I eventually gave in and bought a ton of jail bars so I could farm balloons for DIYs, but there was nothing even remotely enjoyable about such a grind and it just burnt me out, especially when I'd pop every single balloon that appeared for 2+ hours straight without finding a single DIY. There's nothing wrong with requiring a bit of grinding in a game, I don't mind having to work a bit for something as long as the reward in the end makes the grind feel like it was worth it. But the Balloon grinding requirement for seasonal DIYs was just set way too far in the wrong direction for it to feel like anything other than incredibly frustrating.

Apologies for the wall of text, that turned out to be a bit more of a rant than I had intended!

I’m getting tired of animals mailing me every day, especially when they’re mailing me items that I don’t want.
This is why I always force villagers to move out via amiibo cards because the moment you get at a high friendship they start bothering you like crazy. I only raise their friendship just to get their photo and once I got it they are out of here. I know that sounds harsh but if I have to see more gifts in my mailbox or any villager running up to me just to give me a gift I will lose my mind.
