The METAL thread! \m/

What are some Metal albums that everyone else usually seems to love, but you don't?

For me, some of those albums happen to be Acid Bath's When The Kite String Pops (I sometimes like to jokingly say that this is Sludge Metal for people who don't like Sludge Metal. And why does the vocalist remind me of both Corey Taylor and Marilyn Manson at specific times?), Voivod's Killing Technology (I've never understood all the hype behind this band), Cryptopsy's None So Vile (unintentionally funny stuff), Infester's To The Depths, In Degradation (alright, this might just be the most boring Death Metal album I know) and Vio-Lence's Eternal Nightmare (man, those have got to be some of the wimpiest vocals in all of Thrash Metal).

EDIT: I listened to the Cryptopsy album yesterday and didn't find Lord Worm's performance as humorous as before. It's not a horrible album, but I still don't care for it.

This thread may be dead'er than a graveyard, but I'll still post in it from time to time. Anyhoo...

Fun and legendary performance at the local waterpark from the one and only, CONFESSOR. It's kind of amusing how this band manages to repel even some of the most hardened fans of Metal, but I've always liked these guys (and I also think they deserve more credit).

"whats the chicks name who's singing?"

XD

I've currently been revisiting Cirith Ungol's discography, and was reminded of how awesome their album artwork is. So I thought it'd be fun to rank the covers here in order of my personal preference (I'm only counting the ones from actual studio albums though). Interestingly enough, this is also the same exact order I'd put the albums in if I were to rank them solely based on their musical content.

King Of The Dead (1984)

Frost And Fire (1981)

^Cirith Ungol is a great band and I agree, awesome album artwork! It's been awhile since I listened to them. \m/

Michael R. Whelan is a great painter! He's also done covers for Obituary and Sepultura (among others), but you probably already know that. Yes, although Cirith Ungol has always been something of an "acquired taste" (I know of a handful of individuals who just can't stand the voice of Tim Baker!). When I first heard that they were reuniting a couple of years ago, I was skeptical, since most old bands who have been inactive for like two to three decades are usually way past their prime (and just don't sound as good as they once did). But when I listened to 2018's "Witch's Game", I was surprised! That actually turned out to be a really great track (almost sounds as if it could've been recorded back in the '80s). As for Forever Black, well I thought that album was a bit underwhelming, unfortunately. Still, it's nice to at least see them trying again.

New Immolation is killer! \m/

A few days ago I stumbled upon an article featuring the best of Japanese Metal. In it there's various groups that I already know and love, but there's also many others which I'm not too familiar with. I'm going to try to listen to all the ones that interested me the most when I can.

^I can recommend:

Galneryus
Sigh

..and 2 others not on that list:

Lovebites

Anyone familiar w/ the band Striker? They sound friggin' awesome! Excellent modern classic heavy metal:

I haven't ever heard of Striker before. If they're relatively new, then that might partially explain it, as I don't really keep up with the latest Metal. Listening to some of the tracks right now and they're not bad (I liked "Taken By Time" the most). They do have that classic '80s Metal sound as well.

^Yeah I really dig their first album! 'Time I' wasn't bad either but 'The Forest Seasons' I didn't care for as much.

I need to revisit Time I, but I remember not liking it very much especially when compared to the debut from 2004. As for the third release, I haven't ever been interested enough to want to listen to it, ha ha.

Two Power Metal songs whose beginnings sound kind of similar to that of Iron Maiden's "22 Acacia Avenue" (are there any others? I wouldn't be surprised if there were).

Helloween - Future World

Stratovarius - Paradise

My dad is slowing making me like metal music more and more, and I think it's working. I mean, I would tolerate it a bit more if he didn't put Thunderstruck at full volume when we're driving. XD But there are some metal songs that I do like! My favorite is Chop Suey by System of a Down. ^^

AC/DC is a Hard Rock band, but they were definitely influential on Heavy Metal. While I haven't ever been a big fan of them, they do have a handful of catchy tunes (from both the Bon Scott and Brian Johnson eras).

SOAD is great! I don't think that they ever released a terrible album, but the first three are my personal favorites.
