Sorry if this topic was brought up already, I couldn't find anything about this.

Was it anywhere confirmed whatever the game names your own character automatically after your Switch account or can you name your character in-game how you like, regardless of the account's name? I'm curios about this since in games like Splatoon 2 for example, the game use the name of your Switch account as your character name (outside of the two main stories at least).

Also, since you can change your character's gender whenever you like, I wonder if you can also change the name too, as some names may not fit so good anymore as at the beginning (for example: You choose a girl's name because you start as a girl, but then want to continue playing as a boy later, the name may not fit to said character now).

I suppose it hasn’t been stated officially, but I’m fully confident that we can pick a name disconnected from our Switch account and profile.

As far as changing it later goes though, I doubt we’ll be able to. There’s a chance due to this game allowing greater flexibility in general, but I still think town and character names will be fixed permanently.

Sorry for not being able to offer more than opinions—we’ll just have to wait and see.

Every AC game ive played up till now, you've had the freedom of your own name. Not sure why they'd do some backwards thing all of a sudden haha that'd be very odd as they know we like to be creative and pick our own names : ) I have no doubt especially with all the added choices+extra island name characters it'll be the same as always.

Wanted to add based of the PAX East footage they seem like cute/normal names that are custom so this doesn't worry me at all :'3
