Pokémon The Pokémon Challenge Thread

Congrats! I’ve enjoyed keeping up to date through this thread for a while now.

Have you ever tried a hardcore nuzlocke?

Thank you!

Now that you mention it I haven't, but I'll look into that for sure.

I made a TON of progress on my Alpha Sapphire Nuzlocke! I took out the wonderlocke part.

I started over Spring Break, and chose Torchic. I named him Dandy, and progressed to Oldale. After getting the boxes prepped for faints and the endgame, I fought Brendan (I chose May and named her Anna as a reference to the demo) and won without a potion. After getting the capture mechanisms (Pocket Capsules, as I call them), I got the dexnav and encountered a Poochyena (Larky). I went to 103, caught a Wingull (Beaky) and progressed to the next route where I caught a Wurmple (Wormy), and helped Wally catch a Ralts. I then went to the route just outside the Petal Woods and caught Ziggy the Zigzagoon, went into the woods, caught Loomish the Shroomish, and beat up Team Aqua. After getting to Rustboro, I caught Buggy the Nincada and Whisper the Whismur just outside the city. They went in Box 1 along with Birdy the Taillow, who was caught behind the flower shop. I trained my team via Exp. Share, and Dandy evolved while doing so. Feeling confident, I challenged Roxanne after beating the Gym Trainers. Loomish was my counter for the rock types, and worked well due to having Mega Drain in place of Absorb. Beaky would have worked, but I saved them for Brawly because of their flying type. Speaking of Brawly, his fight went smoothly, with Dandy playing assist. After catching Batthew the Zubat in Granite Cave, I gave the letter to Steven and went to Slateport. I gave the Devon Goods to Stern, got drafted into a contest by a cloud bird, and caught Blob the Gulpin outside Cycling Road. After that, it was time for the rival battle. I began with Loomish in front, but Brendan sent his Shroomish out, so I switched into Dandy to take it out. Dandy also learned Flame Charge. Next was his Marshtomp, and Dandy and Loomish took that out with Mega Drain, Leech Seed, and Rock Tomb. Last was his Slugma, which Beaky almost died to, but Dandy was able to take it out despite being paralyzed from the Shroomish. So far, I have 2 badges and no deaths! Now, how am I gonna beat Wattson...

(I cannot use the DexNav, so Larky does not have the elemental fang move.)

Combusken
Poochyena
Zigzagoon
Wingull
Beautifly
Shroomish

I've wanted to do one of these for a long time, so here goes nothing! Not sure how often I'll update it, since I'll be playing only every now and then.

Game: Black 2

Rules: The two standard rules apply, one change: I can use the first Pokemon obtained from Dream Radar. This is solely because I want to make good use of that app outside of the legendaries I got from it. All other Dream Radar Pokemon will be placed into a separate box (or two) from the challenge. Items obtained from there will not be used.

Current Team:
Caesar the Oshawott
Zira the Purrloin
Munna the Munna (DR)

Started off my journey properly after obtaining the lv5 legendaries from Dream Radar. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

As previously mentioned on my profile, after winning the Pokemon White Nuzlocke, I went on to do a Pokemon Platinum Nuzlocke with Piplup as my starter, and I ended up winning it in grand fashion, basically sweeping the champion, Cynthia. Winning these back-to-back just further cemented my status as a Pokemon challenge master. My final team was something like

Tanjiro the Empoleon
Tokoyami the Gliscor
Asta the Umbreon
Midoriya the Gallade
Esdeath the shiny Abomasnow
Fubuki the Froslass

All around levels 60-62. I spent a TON of time grinding before taking on the elite four and champion, and made use of all my heart scales and TMs in order to win.

I'd say the scariest part of the challenge was when I was facing Lucian's Alakazam. The thing NEARLY took out my Froslass with Psychic, but Froslass miraculously survived at 1 HP and I finished his Alakazam off with another Shadow Ball.

I'm kind of wanting to do a HG/SS challenge now since I haven't beat one on those games before, but for now I'm taking a break. 😎

I just beat the Pokemon League on Platinum while doing my Grass-Type Monolocke Challenge.

Torterra, Carnivine, and Wormadam were all really awesome. Roserade and Leafeon were really good too, but they got walled a bit more easily. Cherrim was dead-weight for the most part unless it was able to start blasting SolarBeams, which was really fun when it did work out.

This was one of the harder Grass-Type Monolockes that I've done. Team Galactic is really tough with all the Poison-Types. And then having a Bug and Fire-Type Elite 4 battle was pretty rough. I got slaughtered both times but managed to pull through and recover with tons of potions. It was a lot of fun!

Just need to finish the Dex, and then I'll be doing the same thing in HeartGold!

Congrats on winning your challenge! That seems like it was extremely difficult, lol, especially because of the E4.

You also reminded me that I forgot to post my champion image in here.

I also think it's a funny coincidence that we're both planning to play HG/SS next.

Yeah, it was tough! But I love my Grass-Types.

We're doing every game in order, and I'm doing a full living Dex in each one. So it'll probably be a couple of months before we do HG/SS. Then it'll be B/W, then B2/W2, then X/Y, and so on!

I'm still playing at random intervals, although I can't help but feel as though it's harder to level up here than it is in other games? Anyway, an update to my team. Finally have six, but one of them is definitely in need of being replaced at this stage. I'm not sure if Punch is going to stay as well, if only because her final evolution requires a trade which I can't do as per the rules (as far as I'm aware). Insomnia feels like my weakest link otherwise. She's so slow that she's always getting caught out by flinch moves like headbutt, so it's been a struggle to train her. Exp. Share has been vital.

Other than that, lost my first capture to a critical hit. And I was being so careful, too. Also lost out on capturing a Psyduck for the same reason. I've been finding lots of critical hits in this game, and my luck with catching certain types hasn't been brilliant. Other than that, it's going alright... For now.

Currently at Nimbasa, getting ready to fight the gym leader.

B2/W2 Nuzlockes are soooo difficult, lol. The furthest I've made it in the sequels is 8 gym badges and Ghetsis, but never past there, haha. I hope you do well with it! 🥳

I tried a hardcore nuzlocke on BW2 and my whole team, except my pignite got swept by Burgh. Then I went to the desert resort and got one shot critical hit by a LIEPARD. I will try again at some point

Quick question for my Nuzlocke, are there any good strategies for Wattson with my current team? I am very worried about handling the gym.

Combusken and Shroomish are going to be your stars, especially because of Combusken's Fire/Fighting type moves, and because of Shroomish's Grass type, which resists Electric type moves. If I recall correctly, Wattson has at least one Magnemite, which you can take out using Combusken. I hope you do well!

Yeah, I hope I do too. If things get dicey, I could spam Dandy´s Rock Tomb move so I get weakness and stat lowering.

I did a poll here not too long ago, trying to decide on what game to do a Nuzlocke on. I've started some before, but always lost motivation before getting to the end. Reading some of the playthroughs everyone's accomplished on here is inspiring me to try again!

Anyway, my poll ended up being gen 4. Unfortunately, my copy of diamond is nowhere to be found, my brother is using my pearl, and my platinum is one that I refuse to reset right now. Second place was gen 3, so I'm going to have to start with that, and hopefully diamond shows up before I win/lose that Nuzlocke.

I'm starting on Sapphire, used a random number generator to pick my starter for me, and ended up with Mudkip. The first battle with my rival went well, but I'm pretty sure it's designed so that you can't lose. I caught the first two Pokemon for my team shortly after. I was hoping for Poochyena, but ended up with Zigzagoon and Wurmple.

As for rules, I'm going to be a little generous with myself and not lock myself into using the first Pokemon I throw out unless it dies, and will allow myself to use potions. Perhaps I might go for those rules with a little more experience. I'm also letting myself use the duplicates clause, but only for the first Pokemon encounter. For example, if I find another Zigzagoon as my first encounter in a new route, I can skip over it and try for the second one, but if the second one is also a Zigzagoon, I'm out of luck. I'm hoping that it forces my Pokemon to be more random, so that if a Pokemon dies, I can't just replace it with a spare quite so easily.

Now it's time to make my way properly into my journey. I don't get a lot of spare time, so it might be a few days before I update again with my progress. Wish me luck!

Sounds great! Let us know how it goes and continue posting updates here! Gen 3 is also very good to do a Nuzlocke on.

Pokemon Black 2 Seventh Gym: Dragons of Fate

I HAVE FINALLY RETURNED TO TAKE DOWN THE DRAGON GYM!

Soooooo, I did not realise I needed to beal all of the trainers on the dragon; I swear a website said I didn’t have to beat them all? So I was lied to.
Also, it took me so long because the fear of the dragons stressed me out.

I was really worried about the triple battle…as I should’ve been, because we sadly lost Yolo in that fight.
He was not the pokemon I actively wanted, but throughout my journey he was fantastic and worked so well on the team. I also recently evolved him, so it made it even worse. RIP Yolo.

So here’s my strategy for this gym, have my Crustle stealth rock for the heck of it, and hopefully use my ice pokemon on Haxorus.

Here’s my team now:

Tagteam (Crustle) LV48 (Clutching it’s quick claw)

Ubon (Serperior) LV48 (Holding Big Root)

Pineapple (Altaria) LV48 (Holding Rocky Helmet)

Punchline (Amoonguss) LV44 (Miracle Seed)

Noelani (Castform) LV49 (Leftovers)

MockingJay (Swanna) LV48 (Smoke Ball)

Here’s the Battle:

The fact that Druddigon has only fighting moves, well all of them do, almost worries me but at least they don’t have dragon dance? (I DIDN’T SEE HAXORUS HAD THIS WHA)

Like I wanted to, Tagteam used stealth rock; I almost was gonna decide against it. But I’m glad I did.
Druddigon luckily couldn’t really hurt Tagteam that much and I tried digging to see how much power it had; sadly not too much, so I switched tactics.
After using a hyper potion, and Druddigon uses dragon tail to bring out Ubon, Drayden also uses a hyper potion on his Pokemon.

So I do my best to giga drain my way to a full health bar, while leaf blading the pokemon. Before draining him enough that he finally fainted.

(While I was walking home from work, I was suddenly wondering if Flygon had flamethrower, as I had planned to use Ubon against them, but couldn’t if they did.
Once arriving home to check, not only was I relieved to see that Flygon’s moveset didn’t have flamethrower; but that it was also a ground type :D)
So, keeping Ubon in I used giga drain enough to get to full health and was gonna leaf blade it when it suddenly used dragon tail and yeeted Castform onto the battlefield and I’m sure she was terrified. :/

So I decided, welp might as well hail sooner than later like I was planning with Haxourus. Flygon tried killing Noelani with earth power and rock slide, but Noelani was able to hang on enough to weather ball it in the face and faint it.

Although, Noelani is nearly dead, and Drayden wanted to bring out Haxurus already, but I knew she could fight till the end.
Once Haxourus got out, he got hurt by stealth rock and the hail and I quickly hyper potioned her.
Haxorusu uses slash, and Noelani with the help of the stuff from before killed Haxorus with weather ball~!

I'm glad it went well~!
I had even forgotten I had Altaria for back up, and Amoongus to toxic if needed be.
After all this time, the battle was pretty alright :D Definitely an interesting battle too.

So now, the last gym will be the easy water gym :/ I mean, I've never thought them so maybe might have something different. Unless it's like a copout like In Emerald, instead of Steven we had Wallace.

So, now that's done, I do have a lil question.
So I have this:

343137016_482524794014421_3621115194340965985_n.jpg

I was wondering, if I should do a nuzlocke on this one?
Because i have always wanted to do a nuzlocke with heartgold/soulsilver, but my computer is honestly the worse and cant use emulators and like i might as well try it out.
it is in Japanese, so I shall need to make notes and stuff as I play but it should be simple enough. :D
I wanted a Japanese version of the game so I could breed for a shiny oddish for my soul sivler game. And to also have a ditto from a different region.
I already have it ready to pick a starter (was trying to find shiny) so what do you think~?

Should I change my movesets before before challenging Wattson? I'm thinking of grabbing a few TMs from the Mauville PokeMart.

Wouldn't be a bad idea. Just make sure you're not spending too many Pokedollars. Got to save most of it for potions and pokeballs.
