Pokémon The Pokémon Challenge Thread

Defeated Olivia, thus taking care of the second Grand Trial, and arrived at the Aether Paradise, but not before doing some training and trading some encounters. Now for another update.

Current Pokemon Ultra Sun Wonderlocke Team (4 Island Trials done) (2 Grand Trials done)

Shroomish (Female), Lv. 33
Persian (Female), Lv. 34
Alakazam (Male), Lv. 32
Sylveon (Male), Lv. 33
Torracat (Female), Lv. 26
Wartortle (Male), Lv. 25

Nice! Looks like a really good team so far. Are you going to be evolving your Shroomish into a Breloom?

Shoot. I already have a Breloom, but for some reason I just typed Shroomish instead because I was in a hurry and I guess I had Shroomish on the mind. Thanks for pointing that out.

Lol, that’s fine. Let us know how the rest of the challenge goes when you get through it! :)

Looks good so far! Your Marshtomp’s nickname reminds me of the name of my starter when I first played Omega Ruby, which became a Swampert named Kipperz. Looking forward to updates on this. :)

An Update for my Pokemon Theta Emerald EX Nuzlocke

Just gotten to Dewford City and got my encounter for the Dewford cave. Lost Pew the Vivillon to a trainer on route 116 but other than that it's been pretty good so far. Kippy the Marshtomp and Trevor the Phantump were able to destroy Roxanne and are carrying the team at the moment

Current Team:
Kippy the Marshtomp, Level 24
Trevor the Phantump, Level 22
Clemont the Diggersby, Level 20
Sacrifice the Wachog, Level 20
Natalie the Natu, Level 20
Mack the Machop, Level 20

New Catches:
Natalie the Natu
Mack the Machop
Hands the Makuhita

Dead
Pew the Vivillon, Level 16

NOTE: Ziggy the Zigzagoon has been boxed since my last update and has become a HM slave since I liked the Patrat more

Looks like it’s going well. I’m excited to see if Trevor lasts long enough to become a Trevenant! Same for Natalie becoming a Xatu. Keep going and make sure to update us every once in awhile. :)

Pokemon Omega Ruby Nuzlocke (OT: Vesper)

Badges: 1

Pokemon
Starter - Manhattan (Torchic)
Route 101 - Pink Squirrel (Zigzagoon)
Route 102 - Mint Julep (Seedot, now Nuzleaf)
Route 104 - Aviation (Wingull)
Petalburg Woods - Some Moth (Cascoon, now Dustox)
Rusturf Tunnel - Foghorn (Whismur)

Update:
Picked up Aviation on route 104, and at full health, she literally took one critical hit and died. No big deal. I have actually tried to avoid battling in certain zones so I can come back for reinforcements as I need them, but we'll see what happens between now and my next gym.

I have Exp Share turned on, and Nuzleaf's Razor Leaf did the heavy lifting at the first gym. I don't remember what to expect with gym 2, but I plan to have my team around level 20 by then.

Nice! I think your Nuzleaf and Dustox will be able to help carry the team a bit. Also, if you get your team to level 20 by the second gym you should have no issues with the gym. :)

Update on my Theta Emerald EX Nuzlocke

Not much has happened, but have just defeated the Dewford Gym. It was quite a scary fight. Natalie the Natu almost died but I likely outsped Brawly's Pokemon. I also had a really close call where I almost lost Kippy the Marshtomp and Trevor the Phantump. I was up against Brawly's Hariyama and A hit left Kippy on less than half HP. Because healing would just stagnate the fight, I swapped into Trevor since I expected a fighting type move which happened, leaving it on full health but next turn I was outsped and a knock off left Trevor on 1HP before I killed it that turn. Luckily there were no casualties.

Pokemon Theta Emerald EX Team (Dewford City, 2 Gym Badges, 1 Death)

Natalie the Natu, Level 22

Nice! Looks like you had some close calls but made it through okay. I wonder how difficult the gyms become in games like this...?

I have only done 2 gyms but they definitely different. I'm pretty sure the levels are higher and the gym leaders have more Pokemon, Brawly had a full team of 6. The Pokemon are also of a wider variety from different generations. The movesets are more diverse, as shown by the Hariyama having knock off

That’s interesting. Thanks for explaining this. Make sure to keep updating us as you move along. :)

Rusturf Tunnel - Foghorn (Whismur) -- BENCHED
Route 116 - MEOWjito (Skitty)
Route 110 - French 75 (Electrike)

Update:
Got my second badge. Battled my rival on Route 116 and recently made it to Mauville. I haven't really gotten many new Pokemon, but the team right now seems to be just fine. Zigzagoon evolved into Linoone. I have been preventing Torchic's evolution to this point, but I am not sure if I am helping it get good moves quicker or if I am missing moves it would get when it evolves. Glad to have an electric type in the mix. It feels like this game doesn't stick the player with a bunch of normal/poison/flying type Pokemon the way earlier games might have in Nuzlocke.

Some Moth, the Dustox, has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting so far and has Psybeam, Poison Powder, and the Poison-type move that does double damage when poisoned.

That looks like a good team, and is definitely more Pokemon than I have by that point (but I tend to be a bit picky too). Also, waiting on evolutions is good for learning new moves faster, but the power-up from an evolution can help a lot when you’re in a pinch. I would say to wait until you face an enemy you know is going to be difficult or that you think may be difficult before evolving your mons’. I personally evolve mine all as soon as possible, but that doesn’t help me with moves. :)

I thought the point was to just grab the first one you see in any area? To me, the idea is that by not being picky, it forces the player to utilize Pokemon he or she would never think to use (which are, in my run, all of them).

Yeah, that is the point of the challenge. I have been going against it when I do a challenge for a very long time, but next time I do a Nuzlocke Challenge I’ll make sure to catch more mons’ as I go through the game.

Update on my Pokemon Theta Emerald EX Nuzlocke. Things haven't gone too well recently. I have just defeated Watson but have lost a couple of Pokemon, plus I haven't had a wide variety of encounters. Luckily I can get quite a few before Flannery and can go back to cities to fish if I'm desperate.

DEATHS
Mack the Machop, Level 20
Clemont the Diggersby, Level 24 (Died right I was using it and it became a key part of my team. RIP)

New Catches
Widow the Gothita
Van Gogh the Smeargle

Current Team (3 Gym Badges, 3 Deaths)
Kippy the Marshtomp, Level 33
Trevor the Phantump, Level 27
Hands the Makuhita, Level 25
Natalia the Natu, Level 24
Ziggy the Linoone, Level 23
Widow the Gothita, Level 22

Also, if I lose my Marshtomp I am absolutely screwed. I am relying it way too much and it's become massively overleveled because of that. Luckily Hands is pretty good and can use him, plus next thing I'm doing is evolving Natalie and despite Trevor becoming weaker, I can still use it but will protect it at all costs (except for Kippy) because I could really use a Trevenant. So if I can keep them as a core 4 and find 2 other members shortly, I think I'll be okay for a little bit

Ah, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you get some new Pokemon from encounters and rebound by the time of the next gym. Looking forward to seeing the next update. :)

Probably taking a hiatus from Pokemon Ultra Sun for now. I tried playing last night, half of my party died, and I just wasn't feeling it. In the meantime, I'm doing a Platinum Randomizer Nuzlocke. Update on that coming soon.
