Pokémon The Pokémon Challenge Thread

BUMP.

I started a new Nuzlocke Challenge on Omega Ruby the other day. I’m focused more on catching as many mons’ as possible this time and less on having a distinct, good team in the beginning. Later on, if I make it far enough, I’ll replace out mons’ when necessary.

Team:

Asta the male Zigzagoon level 15
Charmy the female Shroomish level 15
Vanessa the female Dustox level 15
Magna the male Combusken level 18

Gym badges: 2

Currently in Slateport City. I stopped myself from getting to six mons’ asap because the ones I had needed some training. I’ll probably resume filling out an initial team once I leave the city. Also, this time I’m nicknaming each one after Black Clover characters. :)

Wouldn't it have been better for you to catch the Pokemon anyway? Since you've most likely encountered wild Pokemon on the routes you haven't caught anything on you've missed out on a heap of encounters? You'll have a tough time if your team gets wiped since you have barely any Pokemon

This is true, although I’m more focused on raising the Pokemon I catch and having them get tougher. I’m afraid if I reach a battle where the other levels would be higher, that despite having a bunch of Pokemon I would get wiped out anyway. Idk, I think it’s just the way I’m accustomed to doing these challenges by now.

Anyway, here’s an update on my challenge:

Team:

Magna the male Combusken level 28
Asta the male Linoone level 28
Noelle the female Azumarill level 28
Finral the male Sandslash level 27

Deaths:

Charmy the female Shroomish
Vanessa the female Dustox

Gym badges: 4

So I’ve actually been doing alright thus far. I am kind of bummed at Vanessa dying. I didn’t know that one of the trainers in Flannery’s gym had a Meditite which knows Fire Punch, so that took me by surprise. Charmy died awhile back due to May’s Marshtomp using Bide. I tried draining it and paralyzing it, but it still went through. Since then though I’ve acquired two new catches, a Sandshrew which evolved into a Sandslash named Finral, and a Marill which evolved into an Azumarill named Noelle. I’m going to work on grinding and toughening up my team before facing Norman. I imagine that he’s going to be a challenge-breaker if I’m not prepared. Looking forward to continuing the challenge though. :)

Really tragic events in my Theta Emerald EX Nuzlocke recently. I defeated the 4th and 5th Gyms (Fire and Normal) but it came at the greatest cost in a Nuzlocke. When versing the trainers in the 4th gym, a Gourgeist had Egg Bomb and my starter, Kippy the Swampert couldn't survive the 4x damage hit and died. It was terrible but I went back to my boxes and got Nori the Skrelp (who I was saving for later but I got a Bagon so I used it now) to be my water type. Too bad he died against Flannery. Then up against Norman I lost both Oh Deer who had evolved into a Sawsbuck and Champ the Primeape. Champ was the MVP of that battle though. Hands the Hariyama took a heap of damage on Norman's first Pokemon and I didn't get a chance to heal until the very end so Champ carried the team. He was a Champ

Theta Emerald EX Update (5 Gym Badges, 8 Deaths)
Hands the Hariyama, Level 42
Natalie the Xatu, Level 42
Blowtorch the Magmar, Level 42
Spike the Cacturne, Level 42
Blade the Doublade, Level 42
Mrs Krabs the Kingler, Level 42

New Catches
Spike the Cacturne, Level 42 (Was caught as a Cacnea at level 25)

Deaths
Kippy the Swampert, Level 39
Nori the Skrelp, Level 37
Oh Deer the Sawsbuck, Level 41
Champ the Primeape, Level 42

RIP Kippy the Swampert, 2018. Always in our hearts and never forgotten

Also, if I win the Nuzlocke Champ will be a hero like Kippy, he sacrificed himself for the team and won me a gym badge. (Although Kippy won me 3 sooooo...)

So here’s an update on my challenge.

Omega Ruby Nuzlocke Challenge

Team:

Magna the male Blaziken level 38
Asta the male Linoone level 38
Noelle the female Azumarill level 38
Finral the male Sandslash level 38
Grey the female Altaria level 38

Deaths:

Charmy the female Shroomish
Vanessa the female Dustox
Gauche the male Gloom

Gym badges: 6

I managed to somehow get past Norman without anyone fainting. I used Magna for the majority of the gym, and started the battle with Norman with him. I made sure to use Norman’s Slaking’s Truant ability to my advantage and switched to Noelle when Magna got low on health. Metronome+Huge Power+Play Rough worked wonders, and I won the battle. I then went back and explored all the areas I could with surf, and then went on my way to Fortree City. I caught a male Gloom on route 119, which I named Gauche, but it ended up killing itself in confusion against a Carvanha, so that’s great. Probably because Gauche was confused as to why he was a Gloom, xD. I continued onward and made it to Fortree City. Winona’s team was kind of a pushover due to my team being several levels higher than hers. Now I’m set to continue exploring route 120 on the way to Mt. Pyre. Since my team is doing pretty well and Magna can mega evolve now (plus Grey once I make it to Lilycove City), I’m going to be focused on catching a couple more Pokemon to finish my team and have some as replacements. I’m glad the challenge is continuing to go well. There’s been some close calls, but I’m happy at how it has turned out. Looking forward to continuing it. :)

An update on my challenge.

Omega Ruby Nuzlocke Challenge

Team:

Magna the male Blaziken level 51
Asta the male Linoone level 51
Noelle the female Azumarill level 51
Finral the male Sandslash level 51
Grey the female Altaria level 51
Mimosa the female Bellossom level 51

Replacements:

Captain Yami the male Shuppet level 31

Deaths:

Charmy the female Shroomish
Vanessa the female Dustox
Gauche the male Gloom

Gym badges: 8

So much to my surprise, the rest of the Nuzlocke Challenge after acquiring my sixth gym badge went really well. I managed to catch another Gloom on one of the routes before Mt. Pyre, made it to Mossdeep City and used the sun stone there to evolve her into a Bellossom nicknamed Mimosa (ran out of Black Clover Black Bull members’ names, so I had to use one from Golden Dawn). Before that I caught a Shuppet at Mt. Pyre which will be a replacement if needed. I used a combination of Grey in mega form and Mimosa in order to defeat Tate and Liza, and then I went around all the water routes and strengthened my team. I then defeated Team Magma, caught Groudon (who went straight to the PC and will not be used for obvious reasons), and battled and defeated Wallace as the last step today. Also went back and used HMs where needed to get items and battle trainers. Now all that’s left for the Nuzlocke Challenge is Victory Road and the Pokemon League. I’m surprised I’ve made it this far, as this is now officially the furthest I’ve made it in any Nuzlocke Challenge before (surpassed my Black 2 one from a year or couple years ago). There were numerous occurrences where some of my party members got down to the red zone, but I managed to switch out, heal, or find a way out of it every time. If everything goes well and I make it to the Pokemon League intact, I’ll challenge the Elite Four and Champion in true Nuzlocke Challenge style by reversing the order of my team shown above (last pokemon caught goes first). The next update I post here will reveal whether I am able to gain my first Nuzlocke Challenge win or not... looking forward to it! :D

I gained my first Nuzlocke Challenge victory!

Omega Ruby Nuzlocke Challenge

Asta the male Linoone level 55
Mimosa the female Bellossom level 55

Replacements:

Captain Yami the male Shuppet level 31

Deaths:

Charmy the female Shroomish
Vanessa the female Dustox
Gauche the male Gloom
Magna the male Blaziken
Noelle the female Azumarill
Finral the male Sandslash
Grey the female Altaria

Gym badges: 8

Hoenn League Champion

I made it through Victory Road and my team’s levels went up by a couple overall, and then I beat Wally easily and challenged the Pokemon League. Surprisingly, I managed to make it through all of the Elite Four without losing a single Pokemon. There were a couple close calls with Magna being at 7 HP at one point. I then faced Steven Stone and managed to take out all of his Pokemon in order to beat the Nuzlocke Challenge and win. Unfortunately, in the process, four of my six team members got taken out by Steven’s team, but I managed to scrape by and claim the victory. Finally, after trying these challenges for years and years I managed to beat one. I don’t think I’ll be trying this challenge again for a long time, and when I do it will be with a different game. I’m just glad I can finally say I beat a Pokemon Nuzlocke Challenge. :)

Nice! Your team looks good so far. Make sure to update us on your challenge from time to time! :)

Have been a bit busy the past couple of days, but I played some today! The challenge is going well outside of a couple of tragedies during the 4th-5th gyms. I got overconfident in fighting Flannery's Torkoal. She used Overheat once and took a healthy chunk of my health, so instead of switching I decided to try my luck at taking it on with its special attack reduced. Nope. Catastrophe passed away from Slaking. I completely forgot they had Retaliate and he was utterly annihilated. Toadstool avenged his death.

Current team:
Lv 45 Female Beautifly named Pinkerton (I was frustrated I didn't get Dustox, but she's become a fun staple to my team.)
Lv 43 Female Minun named Mint.
Lv 44 Male Swamper named Skipper.
Lv 42 Male Breloom named Toadstool (he's my powerhouse hitter.)
Lv 39 Female Grumpig named Psypig (replacement for Maku. She's decent so far.)
Lv 31 Male Zangoose named Moriend (I may replace him somewhere down the road. He's a bit redundant with Toadstool on my team).

Gyms complete: 6
Deaths:
Maku the Male Hariyama.
Catastrophe the Male Skitty.

I'm currently outside Mt. Pyre training my Pokemon. I caught Marion the Shuppet a bit recently and may add him to my team, but it depends on what I find inside Mt. Pyre first. I, unfortunately, also just killed a Doduo in the Safari Zone...which has been the only flying type Pokemon Ive been able to catch thus far. Looks like I won't be using Fly any time soon. No serious issues in this run other than me being overconfident at certain points. As long as I switch Pokemon when I need to I should be fine (although Im a bit worried about dealing with Primal Groudon later in the game).

Current team:
Lv 54 Female Beautifly named Pinkerton.
Lv 53 Female Minun named Mint.
Lv 52 Male Swampert named Skipper.
Lv 49 Male Breloom named Toadstool.
Lv 53 Female Grumpig named Psypig.
Lv 41 Female Ninetales named Vulcana.

Gyms complete: 8

Deaths:
Maku the Male Hariyama.
Catastrophe the Male Skitty.

I ended up replacing Moriend from my team. As much as I wanted to use a Zangoose, he just didn't fit with the balance of my team. Due to me finding a Shuppet on Route 121, I used the species clause and found a Vulpix in Mt. Pyre! Given that I'd been badly needing a fire type of some sort, getting a Vulpix was fantastic. There haven't been many issues since the losses of both Maku and Catastrophe, although a couple of crits have almost devastated me. Both Psypig and Skipper were almost one shot by crits against Groudon. Pinkerton also took a crit against Wallace to the point where she was down to 13 HP. Whew! Up next is the Elite 4. I may do a bonus round to the Nuzlocke for the Delta Episode, but we'll see how many I lose to the E4. Still, I'm near the conclusion and so far my team is holding strong!

I've actually changed my mind about the Wonderlocke after FINALLY finding my Omega Ruby! The Wonderlocke will wait, as for Omega Ruby, I have something else planned that could be significantly more difficult: I'm sure it has a name somewhere out there, but I'm going to call it a Navlocke! This means that I can only catch a Pokemon for a route by using the DexNav. The only exceptions are my starter, any shinies I may find, and static encounters. However, my self-imposed rule is that I will be combining this with a Wonderlocke by Wonder Trading off any static encounters, minus my starter, which I am allowed to use. The starter I choose will be chosen on a name picker website.

Well, the name generator chose Mudkip, so Mudkip is going to be my starter! I'll give a team update once I get to Rustboro City or somewhere around that area.

Ohhh that should be an interesting challenge. So if your first Pokemon for a route isn't a DexNav it gets wonder traded? Hopefully you don't get an army of Wurmples. xP

On that same note, I have completed my Omega Ruby Nuzlocke Challenge!

Current team:
Lv 61 Female Beautifly named Pinkerton.
Lv 58 Female Minun named Mint.
Lv 59 Male Swampert named Skipper.
Lv 55 Male Breloom named Toadstool.
Lv 62 Female Grumpig named Psypig.
Lv 50 Female Ninetales named Vulcana.

Elite Four: COMPLETE

Deaths:
Maku the Male Hariyama.
Catastrophe the Male Skitty.

My goodness this last stretch was rife with close calls. On Victory Road both Psypig and Toadstool were almost victims of a Dragon Tamer's Kingdra. It landed three straight critical hits on me, with Toadstool dropping to 4 HP at one point. I swear my heart dropped seeing how fast the health bar dropped. Thankfully both persevered. While I was fairly anxious about how my team would fair in the Elite 4, overall the battles weren't terribly challenging. Pinkerton annihilated Sydney's Dark types with easy, and Psypig essentially Calm Mind swept Phoebe and Glacia. Skipper was able to make relative short work of Drake, although Blizzard missed a couple of times and almost got me into trouble. Steven was the most difficult for obvious reasons, but a combo of Toadstool and Skipper made short work of most of his Pokemon.

Since none of my team members perished during the Elite Four, I'll go ahead and extend this to the Delta Episode as a bonus round of sorts. The only difference is that if anyone faints I will simply box them instead of releasing them. What a fun playthrough, though! This was my first time using both Grumpig and Breloom in a serious manner, and I was pleasantly surprised. Grumpig especially proved to be an incredible key to this run. I'm particularly happy with Pinkerton too. I was a bit grumpy that I didn't get a Dustox early on, but the little Beautifly proved her place on my team. She got me out of several typing jams and was an all-around fun Pokemon to use (quiver dance ftw). I'll post one final update once Delta Episode is finished.

**UPDATE: Delta Episode COMPLETE.
No real issues during the episode other than Wallace's Ludicolo almost downing Pinkerton. Straightforward bonus round and my team knocked it out. Captain Pinkerton and her merry band of heroes have survived my first Nuzlocke. Proud of them.

My first encounter on the route has to be a DexNav. By static encounters, I mean Pok?mon such as Groudon, Kecleon, etc. that the game has you encounter for story purposes. Those ones will be wonder traded.

Ooh, a Navlocke sounds interesting. Cannot say I’ve ever heard of that one before. Make sure to give us updates as you go through your challenge. :)

Unfortunately, my Navlocke ended very early due to horrible encounters, so I decided to pick up my Moon and do a Wonderlocke! I've just beaten the Trainer's School and made my first Wonder Trades. This is my first Moon 'Locke, so I decided to keep my starter. The team is as follows:

Litten (male, level 12)
Fletchling (female, level 1)
Snorunt (female, level 1)
Eevee (male, level 1)

I'm super excited to have a female Snorunt! I know for sure that I'm going to evolve her into a Froslass, I just need someone who can get me a Dawn Stone.. but my friend should have one. I'm also planning on evolving my Eevee into either Espeon or Sylveon. I'll give another update once I clear Ilima's trial!

Nice job getting the Snorunt! Looking forward to the updates on this. :)

My play session ended in Paniola town. No deaths yet. My team consists of:

Torracat (male, level 22)
Sylveon (male, level 21)
Magikarp (female, level 17)
Snorunt (female, level 20)
Orocorio (Pa'u style, female, level 19)
Cutiefly (male, level 17)

I'm happy with my progress! I'll be able to play a ton over Thanksgiving break!
