Yes, to advance to the next day that you want to scout. Start the game as Mayor and have Isabelle change the clock to the date you want and set the time to 5:58 AM. Have her load your town. Save and quit immediately. Then wait two minutes and start scouting as a new character. So long as you're entering the town after six in the morning, it's set for a new day.

Sorry if this sounds silly but I don't understand why you start as the mayor? Can't you just set it for after 6 and log in with a new character?

I always just started as a new character, never did this 5:58 trick. Used the main 3DS clock to change my time to after 6am and it worked.

Yeah it needs the animal crossing time. Unless you're only doing it once per day.

you can set the ds clock time as well if you'd rather.
