The Villager Giveaway Thread!

I'd love it if everyone used the search feature, but we all know that won't happen. And as has been pointed out before, the search on here isn't the most amazing.

Anyway, thanks for your input everyone. Gonna soak it all up and think about how to handle the new board for a little bit longer. For now, we'll be continuing to use these threads. Expect the new board within a day or two.

I'll also be moving both of the threads to Re-Tail for the moment, as it's very weird with them in separate boards right now.

I'm thinking from the point of view that you're looking for a villager being given away or sold. Without shops/hubs, you refresh the main board index looking for a thread to say "[Giveaway] Julian". There you go. If you have shops/hubs, you have ambiguous threads titled "Justin's Adoption Agency" being bumped with no clue as to what villager is actually available at the moment. So you start to click on every one of these threads every few hours looking to see if they have Julian.

As for the comparison to Re-Tail... There are literally thousands of different items and services. There's only 300 or so villagers.

I think I would prefer there not to be general adoption threads for that reason. Certain villager names are unable to be searched for due to the term being very common or too short. It would take a lot of work to see if each adoption agency had who I was looking for in particular.

I think [Selling/Trading] and [Giveaway] type threads with the villagers name in it would make the process a lot easier. I think for "Looking For" should be a single thread where you post once, and just edit your original post if you have to update it. For adoption agencies, perhaps there would be a metathread for that as well, that you also post once and just edit your original post. That way, people can post who they have on reserve/who they gave away/updated list that they can throw a link in their signature. People would make real threads for their giveaways, but it's a nice way for them to have their own little space to keep track of what they have given back to the community.

I hope this doesn't come across as rude, but if you're looking to trade Katt you really shouldn't post her as "up for grabs" on the giveaway thread.

Well in a way I'm trying to trade her but in another way I'm giving her away. I can't stand that hideous cat... so I'll do ANYTHING to get rid of her! xD

The only thing I'm worried about is that I TT through my giveaway towns quickly in order to move a high volume of animals in one sitting, so if someone's not too popular then I normally put a ~10 min lifespan on them being given away. Maybe we could have a megathread for quick TTers - that way people would only have to look at the past page or so to get a handle on who's still available? I know a couple other people do this too, and the forum could quickly become clogged with dead threads in that way if I have to have a new one every 15 mins over the span of a few hours.

Just an idea though, I am excited to have a more organized area as it is sometimes difficult to keep track of who needs what and who's being packed up to go
