This amiibo chart confirms New Leaf + Welcome amiibo characters are back (exceptions)

And my old buddy Roscoe!

u know i didn't like roscoe but he's kind of grown on me. i was a bit moved when he moved away from me, so if i can manage to find him again in new horizons i might try to convince him to stay.

i'm stoked that rv villagers were confirmed. it made sense for them to be in acnh when they were reintroduced in acnl and added in acpc, but i still had the lil thought of me that came out just when i was about the fall asleep saying "what if they aren't something you can scan in? what will you do then?" and i had no answer for that question.

I seen this earlier, so sad to see Viche and Toby go.
Viche, nooo! (I'll miss her the most)

At least Sally is in the game. :)

I had already made peace with the idea that I wasn't going to move in Etoile or Cece anyway. I love them, but I'm a little tired of seeing them in my town. Now, I can just imagine that they love my town so much that they refuse to leave it.

I don’t have any of the Sanrio or non-AC Nintendo character cards (Epona, etc.), so I’m fine with this, though it’s too bad for anyone who has those as favorites. As it stands, I have four cards from Series 1-4 and one Welcome Amiibo card, and it sounds like I should be able to invite them all to my island, which makes me happy. I don’t know whether to pick up any other cards; I’m guessing prices may go up now that their functionality is confirmed, and I do like having a number of natural move ins as well.

Now I just need to know how many villagers we can have. A bunch of my favorites (3/5 of the cards I got) are Lazy, and I don’t want my town to seem too lopsided in one personality direction, which is part of why I haven’t used all of them in a single town. But if we can have more than ten villagers, I could probably swing it while not having things seem too skewed. Even as is, with ten villagers like in ACNL, it might still be ok, but I’ll need to think about it.

I hope they park at Harvey's island and sell their wares as per NL. They had some pretty good stuff, plus I have all the RV cards. :)

I'm not expecting the non-Animal Crossing villagers to be back (Ganon, Wolf Link, etc) but I REALLY hope they are. Specifically, I hope Felyne (Monster Hunter) is back. I imported a Monster Hunter amiibo from Japan so I could have him in New Leaf. I'd like to have him again. :)

If they're not back, I guess Felyne is a great reason for me to keep around my New Leaf town!

We have a 2nd confirmation of thiswith this Japanese Twitter message from the official account

New Leaf had 333 villagers
Welcome amiibo had 50 amiibo cards

So there are no cuts. That puts my mind at ease. Now we just need to know if anyone is returning who have been cut before.

Not as of right now. New Leaf + 50 Welcome amiibo cards are confirmed. It adds up to 383 villagers.

I’m glad the amiibo work they way they do: it’s nice that we can still move them in (presumably) but not as directly as in NL. Inviting the villager to the campsite first, meeting them and then asking if they’d like to stay feels much more natural than them just showing up with a lot placement.

I remember predicting this after the original statement on amiibo compatibility was made last year.

I'm SO glad there were no cuts! Well, except for the special villagers, but I wasn't really expecting any of them to come back. Maybe in the future, as part of an event or something.

I also feel like the designs of the amiibo figurine villagers are kind of gimmicky, but a lot of people love them so it's sad that they wont be getting their dreamies back. They might possibly return with an update. I think maybe even new collab villagers could be introduced this way through some sort of update rollout.

We will be getting updates from Nintendo so they cannot be ruled out completely.
There will be future events and the characters will be included in those.
Sanrio and crossovers will be back and there will be more of them |艸`)うぷぷw

So are the Welcome Amiibo villagers getting put in the base game without needing the amiibo cards? That would be great news, as someone who never used the cards. It basically opens up another 50 characters for me to have.
