Time Travel?

One review I saw mentioned something about small penalties for time traveling. Does anyone know more about what those are? In prior games, so long as what you did wasn’t obvious (e.g., you moved ahead to a new date, or you went back to play a holiday you missed when your last play date was before the holiday), the game didn’t seem to be able to tell, and there were no penalties. Has that changed?

I still don’t plan to TT when I get the game, but I am fond of going back to play holidays if I can’t play them live, and I like to adjust the clock by a few hours to better fit my schedule.

I hope it's OK, I have a 2 week holiday later this year and I want to go back in time and not miss a play day

LOL.... alright....you realize you called people who time travel "lack patience" and that we cheat ourselves which I stated was uncalled for. You think when you say anything it's not insulting at all? Guess you are just so much more superior than everyone else. If you don't agree you don't have to put others down. You should reread what you just posted and apply it to your own mindset. You couldn't even handle what you dish out. I didn't throw out insults like you did but be offended if that's what you want to be.

JKDOS had no intention of offending anyone. They were saying what they feel time travelling conveys; they were not insulting anyone. FOR THE RECORD. I want to go back a few days now, so essentially I'd start the game on the 12th for example, then play a couple of days at a time until I'm back on track. Then I'd only time travel when I have to miss a day for whatever reason, or when I go on holiday and can't play for two weeks straight.

That being said. People can play however they want and however they find most enjoyable for themselves! Please can we stop with the arguing and judging, this game and community is meant to be chill and friendly! Tom Nook just wants your money guys he doesn't care if its past, present, or future money

I plan to do the same thing with the "few days backward" concept. I am self quarantined in my house with no work to do for the first time in years and it is driving me absolutely insane.

This game is played differently by all sorts of different people. I don't think it's anybody's place to judge what's morally just and what isn't. That's stupid and kind of pathetic. People do it a lot, especially here. Like seriously? Who cares lmao. Go worry about something a little more pressing. For me, I don't like to time travel too much, but if someone else does then that's fun. I'm jealous if they have the time to play AC all day. After my initial spurt of playing, once my job finally sets up my remote computer, I won't be able to play quite as heavily anymore. And once this whole self quarantine thing ends I'll probably have to use it to keep up when I get busy like I was before. Not too worried about it.

I'm not going to time travel. I only did in New Leaf when I forgot to manually adjust my clock for daylight savings time. I feel like it breaks the spirit of the game a little bit. Besides, I'm looking forward to everything starting slowly. It is going to be one of those good memories when I do develop my town to look back on pictures and really see how far it has come.

Since we can craft all of our tools, I don't think it will be much slower than what we are used to. After all, we don't have to wait for fishing rods and bug nets to come in stock at the store!

I originally planned not to time travel for at least the first few months of the game. Usually I would be kinda happy that the game is slow the first few days so I won't be playing it literally all day, but with the quarantine happening...I might make an exception and time travel...idk tho

It's not really about the tools though is it, it's the no shops and no museum etc for the first week or so

From the time the game is released to the time when I have to be back online for work, makes the first weekend time with the game precious. After reading the reviews, I thought that my chances of time traveling the first couple of weeks of the game-days were pretty close to 100%. However, after seeing that TT entails messing with the system clock of the Switch instead of an AC in-game clock makes me much less likely to time travel. If there was an in-game option to change the time, I'd probably TT. Without that option, I probable won't.

I’m not really sure just yet. I have to see at what pase the game sets. I’m prone to time traveling. I’ll try to start off by not doing so. It’s like an addiction with me, but I want to try and get to the celebrations at the same time as everyone else this time around. I didn’t start new leaf from the date of the release , so I wasn’t really at the same marks as everyone else. Some reviews did mention the days. Dragging the first couple of days , and penalties for time traveling. I want to wait and see what others say those penalties are before I try anything.

I'm not doing any time traveling
Buuuut on the first day I kind of get to. I am normally in EST which releases right at midnight but I got my switch set up when I was visiting my sister and I was in a different time zone. For whatever reason it hasn't changed back. I'm going to just let it be there so I get a few hours of March 19th at midnight and then fix it when the next day. It's not a lot, but at least I will get a few extra fossils and things. I really want apples and a green or blue airport so hopefully I dont have to reset too much and squander my time on the 19th

It's not really about the tools though is it, it's the no shops and no museum etc for the first week or so

Maybe I'm being a little thick, but why does it matter that we won't start with the shops and the museum right away? We will still be able to do all of the stuff that we will need to do that we would be able to do with a shop. We can still buy and sell a limited supply of goods (that will probably change daily) from Timmy and Tommy right from the beginning. You can start stockpiling bells to help the Able Sisters and Blathers move in with the museum faster whenever they do show up. (If they even need bells to set up, they might not. I have no idea how they move in and I don't want to know until it happens.)

In my experience starting with New Leaf, I only found the beginning slow when I discovered that I had to wait the next day to buy a tool I didn't have. I think I realized this was the case when I discovered I actually needed a shovel to dig up fossils. While in New Horizons, we get the ability to craft all the tools we need to have more activities to do on the island.

Am I going to miss not having access to the Able Sisters right away? Of course! ;) I love the Able Sisters and I love to shop for clothes. Am I going to look forward even more to having Blathers and the museum in town? Oh yes! :D I think having them slowly trickle in and set up will end up feeling much more rewarding in the long run.

The point of New Horizons is starting from a completely deserted island and building up a town instead of being dropped into the middle of a town this time. It is very different than the other games. Is that why people are more resistant to the idea of not having access to the shops right away? Are people afraid of the idea of having to wait for the basic shops will ruin the Animal Crossing feeling from the older titles?

I won't be time traveling at all, even if I miss a day. I'll just wait til next year. It's how I've always played New Leaf and it makes things more fun for me. Lol

I am incredibly torn. I have TT'd a lot in the past but I don't want to ruin anything for myself. However, hearing how slow the first few days are I'm considering it. A big thing for me is as far as Im aware you can't have visitors until the 2nd day, and I will be buying a lot of goods from other users and would like to be able to start landscaping my island ASAP considering what a huge task its going to be, so I think I might atleast do that. Im not sure however, I think it will heavily dependon what others opt to do.

whether the first few days are really slow or not, i'm not time traveling through them. the "slowness" of animal crossing is its charm for me. in the future, if i happen to miss a holiday or something because of irl reasons, i'll time travel back so i can play that day if i have to.

I'll be TTing right from the start. I'm going to set my Switch back a few hours so I can play the first day in daylight instead of at midnight, which is when I'll first be able to play. I'll set the clock back after that, but I'll probably end up TTing more in the future. I've never had an issue with TT. If you don't want to, cool, but don't judge other people who do (and vice versa).

Nah, I'm not planning on using time travel. The only situation where I may think of using it is if work or something causes me to miss an in-game holiday.

Too many people try to rush through games and min/max (basically looking to maximize progress to the utmost level in time played). In all games, Animal Crossing MORE than any other, you will burn out quickly, and the game will lose its charm rather fast. Even if you miss the afternoon in the game due to school/work, tomorrow will come around. There's no race, unless you set one yourself.
