Tips to get back into it... :(

I haven't had the motivation to play again after a few weeks into the wedding season I'm not sure why maybe because I've played continuously everyday so it's probably just burnout. I play other games and draw and I'll probably get back into it sooner or later.

to stay motivated to play, I usually set mini goals and try to tackle them little by little :> it also helps to get inspiration from other islands if you aren't finished terraforming yet. lastly, as others have said, taking a break really does help!

I have lulls sometimes. If you feel like ya need to take a break then by all means, do it! As for myself, @Hobowire gave me inspiration to use my sister’s defunct house as a hotel, so that should keep me busy for the next few weeks.

It's ok to take breaks or miss playing a couple days. This is gonna be a weird opinion, but honestly timetravelling prevents me from burning out. Getting a new change of scenery (seasons) every few days/weeks and playing a week or so in a short burst kinda keeps me going LOL.

But I understand it's not for everyone, so feel free to ignore my comment.

Taking breaks helps is kinda the tldr here, I suppose :3

I totally understand this feeling! I've had a hard time getting back into the game too, except in my case it was due to a very extended and unexpected hiatus. I considered restarting for a long time, but ultimately decided that I couldn't due to the fact that my best friend had worked super hard to gift me Audie and I had a lot of furniture already catalogued. Maybe rethink your island's look? Sometimes you just need something more to do and the day-to-day doesn't remain stimulating enough to keep you motivated by itself. What I did is I cleared my island and put everything on the beaches/sides, and decided to completely revamp it with terraforming and etc. Nevermind the fact that I'm very frustrated with the placement of my stupid resident services, I wish we could move it :(. It has given me enough motivation to throw myself back into it! So maybe that could help if you're still out of options!

I found myself in a rut when the bulk of what I needed to work on involved trading for specific items. It's just so exhausting flying to all those islands just to grab one item at a time. When this happens, I take a break from trading and spend some time crafting or terraforming. Changing up your daily routine helps alot, and if you're just sick of the game in general no harm in taking a few days off. Your island will always be there.

Hey! I'm at the same point as you right now. I played obsessively since I got it but I havent even logged on in a two weeks or so:/ I was busy of course but I wasn't motivated to go on and I'm still not. It took months to get my island where it is and I feel like I don't like it and it's not good enough. Now that life isn't as crazy I hope I can get back into it again:/ just don't want to be stressed over trying to get it how I want, I just feel defeated irl and in the game lol

When it first came out, I played for almost 8 hours every day. Got burnt out super fast, stopped playing for almost two months, and got HOOKED on Planet Zoo. Now that I feel my obsession with Planet Zoo wearing off, I feel my desire to play ACNH increasing again. I've reset my island, and am enjoying just playing an hour or two every day. Plus I'm planning on no TTing this time, only exception would probably be the campsite method. But no TTing to get more DIYs or for cataloguing.

TLDR: Try another game if you feel your motivation to play decreasing! Gaming isn't a chore, and therefore shouldn't feel like one.

Let me crunch numbers for you. These are just estimates since I'm not sure when you started.

The game has been out for roughly 54 days (almost three months). Playing about 500 hours in that time means that you get to play around 9 hours a day on average.

That is a lot of hours in a very short space of time. If you want to take a break, then take a break. I don't know what it is about Animal Crossing, but the only other game I've ever seen taken as seriously as a job are Overwatch and MMOs. I think it is important to remember that it is a game and games are supposed to be fun. Not work.

You don't have to feel guilty because you dont want to play a game 24/7.

It’s the whole “game runs in real time” thing that makes people feel guilty about not picking up the game everyday, I think. I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with this whole AC runs on real time thing since the very beginning. It adds some sort of weird element and ends up getting the game to feel like a chore somehow. I know it’s sort of AC’s signature and all but I sometimes prefer how time runs in Stardew Valley / Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons games.

Dude, same thing happened to me and I’ve only logged 105 hours. Don’t know why it hit me.
Anyways, I know everybody is saying take a break and it’s probably old news by now but seriously, take a break!! SUPER beneficial in the long run cause you’ll come back to the game with fresh eyes and a fresh imagination to start thinking up new ways to play around. If you’re still burned out and thinking of getting to the extremes... there’s always resetting? But uh, that scares me and tbh feels like a waste of a heck of lot of your time that you’ve already logged. Of course to each their own, and I hope you find a way to start playing again!

Video games are meant to be fun rather than feel like a chore. If it's not fun then step away from it for a while. Especially now, when there isn't a timed event going on, there is absolutely no reason to force yourself to sit and play a game if you're not feeling it. Play another game, read a book series, watch a TV show, start a crafts project, etc - there are many more enjoyable things you could be doing in your free time, so don't waste that time on something you're not enjoying.

I totally understand how you're feeling. Especially since finishing paying off my loan and getting all the fossils, I dont feel the desire to play like before. I like to log in to see who's visiting but otherwise don't play much every day.

Honestly dont force yourself and if you feel you need to take a step back then go ahead. Do what makes you happy!

Come back to it after a break if you are burnt out or if you aren't but ran out of things to do I always recommend decorating your island season by season.

I got so fed up with trying to design my island that I lost interest because it felt like a chore so I stopped playing for about a week or two. I've only just started to get back into it - more with the gameplay and just enjoying doing little bits like fishing/diving/catching bugs without feeling like I have to do things. So sometimes I'll chat to villagers, sometimes I'll visit a couple of them and I always walk the entire span of my shoreline slowly in the evening - just because I'd love to be doing that irl and it relaxes me and more than likely I will find my washed up diy in a bottle and a couple of summer shells if I'm lucky. Sometimes I will open up my house inventory and have a good clearout - and other times I will spend my time just simply designing wand outfits or patterns/clothing.

Of course I'll do mini bits of decorating/terraforming here and there in-between but I don't get too carried away otherwise I'll end up how I was before with it feeling too chore-like. I don't really play every day either, usually for a couple of hours at the weekend so I probably miss out on a lot of stuff but it helps not run the game into the ground from over-playing (something I also did at the start)

I don't know what advice you could take from that but that is my perspective on how I got myself out of the 'lack of motivation to play' rut.
