To use paths or not to use path at all and use alternative options, ideas?

Well i was really liking the layout of my map and how it looked with the stone floor, he problem was the without custom content i did not like the path but with the custom content the i could not hear the footstep while walking.

So thinking that winter is around the corner and since its only once a year i have decided to take all paths away, except in some specific areas, in order to be able to have it all snowy and be able to hear the crunchy mushy snowy footsteps.

But now that I am reducing the paths with fences, bushes, trees, flowers and stones I think i might even leave it like that, as it gives a more natural vibe to the town.


Has anyone done something like that ? or am I the only crazy one ?

In my island I use the custom paths by my house and resident services, but that’s it. There is one area where I was thinking about growing just a line of trees and it’s kinda like a makeshift path. I tested it out and it’s pretty cool.

I see that is pretty interesting! Im playing right now with hedge mix with country fencing with some bushes, as soon as i have something more solid ill upload a photo to see how it looks hehhe

I think it would be cool to have not standard paths and just have the plain grass/snow instead. I actually wanted to do that but I figured it would be harder to control flowers that way. I guess you could line the grass/snow with some custom design of wild flowers/sparkles or line the flower areas with that custom design.

I took most of my paths, i was so used to my paths that i feel my island looks kind off wierd now hahah. Ill post some photos in a bit but now that i dont have paths i feel there is more spce and i hace to redesing some areas.

But all in all very excited for winter

In New Leaf, my "pathways" were lined by flowers and bushes. So, it doesn't sound crazy to me.

I didn't know what to do with many of my flowers, so you actually kind a give em a line of thought , maybe i could use more of my flowers to shape the structure of the island.

I have some paths through the center of town and out to my house, but large portions of the island are without paths.

I use the stone path with a custom border I made laid on top. I like the aesthetic from it the best. Yeah the quieter footsteps on it is a bummer but I’ve gotten used to it and don’t really mind it too much. The important thing is that it looks nice imo.

i think it looks unnatural to not have any paths or anything, like dirt patches or something. but that’s just my opinion

I have used the path but I have a light brown brick version and it looks to nice it allows me to make my paths move nicer around my island and plant bushes and flowers right next to it/make it part of the path.

i've been using a darker variation of the path because it does look really pretty, but i wish it had sound w it :c

I made paths in the front of the town (the main street with shops on one side and a few villager houses on the other), but the rest of the town is probably not going to have paths. I am going to put the trees and other plants in ways that "direct" well enough to not have paths since I'm going for a more natural/rustic look.

Only custom path I have is a small train track as an inset for my tricycle racetrack.
