Sorry, I tried asking this in the Questions sticky but didn't get an answer >.<

I read that trees won't grow if there are "too many saplings and trees in the vicinity" (not referring to the "needs to be centered in a 3x3 space with no other obstacles in order to grow" rule). What's the limit on this? I want to make this big orchard, but I don't want to waste a lot of fruits in the process."

I mean, I've also been to dream towns that had HUGE orchards with closely packed in trees, way bigger than what I'm planning. But maybe they were glitched, idk.

When I've been planting trees, I plant one, stand next to it, and dig a hole. There's one space to walk between them.

I've seen some people who put two spaces, which is probably easier if you are doing a major harvest - you can shake them all and have room for all the fruit to fall.

Thanks! But yeah, I do know how to place trees. :) I thought the quote was talking about, for example, "if you have 50 trees in a 300-tile area, the 51st won't grow." That kind of thing. But if no one has heard of anything like that, I'll just go ahead and start my orchard.

Without acres anymore it's pretty hard to measure. I'd just say go for it.

Oops, sorry. I misread your OP.

I haven't found a saturation point on trees/bushes yet, so I can't say. Good luck.

I read somewhere that the 13th tree planted in a row will not grow. This happened in my town that confirmed what I read. Can't find the post for you though, sorry. /_\

I've had better luck planting a group at a time than trying to plant saplings next to full grown trees.

I have a large orchard in my town, with trees planted with 2 spaces in between both north-south and east-west, and every few trees, one didn't grow so I have "holes" in my orchard. I don't know the exact count, but in an area of about 3 x 3 trees, there's usually one "spot" that won't have a tree. If you're careful, you can get it to be where you want it so it looks symmetrical. I had to play with chopping and replanting though, and just ended up planting flowers in the empty spots.

I also have a smaller orchard where trees are planted with only 1 space in between, and the problem was even worse. But fortunately, a villager plopped a house right down in the middle of that orchard, so I re-did the trees around their house and now it doesn't look so bad.

So, my advice is if you want a really big orchard, put a minimum of 2 or maybe even 3 spaces between trees, at least in one direction.

You can visit my Dream Town if you want to see what "holes" I'm talking about. The big orchard is just south of the train station, and the smaller one is on a peninsula above the western-most of the two central bridges.
