Turn islands into tarantula island

I tried this on two islands now with no luck, so not sure if I'll bother trying again. First island had a big windy river so I didn't expect it to work too well there considering the lack of land cover. Second island was a bamboo island with no cliffs or river so once I totally removed all flowers and bamboo it was just a flat open island. Ran around for about 15 mins and NO bugs whatsoever spawned, not even wharf roaches on the rocks by the sea. Bugs had spawned while flowers were still there so it wasn't just that the island never had bugs in the first place.

So I don't know if this legitimately works or if when people think it's working, they just have actually found an actual tarantula island? :(

I did this on an island with one cliff and a river down the middle! It worked as long as I kept chasing away other bugs that spawned. I put all the plant stems on the cliff along with wood, etc. The tarantulas never spawned on that cliff, but sometimes other bugs did so I had to go up there to clear them.

I did this last night and it worked. It took about two hours to completely fill my inventory, but it was worth the time. I haven’t sold them yet cause I’m waiting on Flick to come visit my town. I’m so glad this exists though. I’ve been having a lot of trouble making bells in this game.

Is this something that is likely to be patched in the future? This is my first time playing Animal Crossing so I don't know how Nintendo react to things like this.

I saw someone on twitch try to do this with an island that had a river in the shape of a spiral, and he removed all flowers etc, and ended up finding scorpions on the rocks/beach, but no tarantulas. I don't know for sure what hemisphere his island was in, but I'm assuming it was northern hemisphere.

I assume it works with all provided you clean it up.

Probably works best on the flat islands with no rivers though.
Wish I tried this last night! I got the basic island with 4 or 5 rocks on a cliff and no rivers or bugs

I hope not. I'm not sure what they could do to patch it other than decrease the spot rate, which would suck unless it only applies to tours.

Probably south. I haven't seen any Scorpions here in the north. I thought they were summer bugs, so they may have time traveled if anything.

I tried but I keep getting stupid mole crickets >_>

I will come back later when I have time to actually read the OP, but for now my response to the title is:
omg WHY?!

Why would you create such a nightmarish hellscape?!? >.<

Course if you wanna cheat and do the Switch/Royal Crown Cardboard trick, which is forbidden here. This is your best bet.

I just did it on one with bamboo! I was carrying too many things back to fill my pockets with them, but I caught 5 or so: enough to pay off my second loan!

I got a spiral island (it has a layout that spirals toward the center like an @) last night with fruit trees and no cliffs. It was ideal for tarantula hunting. I followed the instructions and cleared everything. There was a learning curve as I figured out the best rhythm of wandering/scaring away wharf roaches and tiger beetles (and I missed the part about not having to worry about mole crickets so I wasted a lot of time trying to get rid of those annoying guys.) But eventually I got into the flow and I was able to bring home 29 (I should have made it 30 by placing one on the ground and then dumping my net! It does require some patience and labor, but I found it to be really entertaining because the tarantula has been my arch-nemesis for a long time. It was fun perfecting my hunting technique and the bells are sure gonna be useful! Thanks so much for all the tips, everyone!

Wait, who is Flick? EDIT: nevermind, I know how to google haha! But... when does he show up? Do you know how far along in the game you have to be?
