I imagine this is new from the update but wanted to check. Half of my villagers now have replaced some of their surface items with glasses/hats I've gifted them (some going back 6 months ago).

Seems like they've once again changed how the villagers place items/clothing players gift them.

What are your thoughts? Is there a thread regarding this already? If so, apologies for this.

I noticed that today when I walked into Stitches’ house. It was pretty annoying because he had some cute items out and now they’re replaced by all of the hats I’ve given him. I guess I won’t be giving out any more hats 🙄

Really?!! I gift them a lot of table top items, so i hope that could prevent them from putting this stuff on display, or at least it would make them show it less.

I think it is kinda nice in the way of, I am glad they aren't on the floor anymore. You can now gift them sunglasses and they could potentially put it on the same table as the jewelry display thingy. However I hope items have higher priority than the clothing. It would be even better if they didn't display clothes at all anymore. I mean, we have chests and wardrobes for a reason.
Maybe there are people out there who like them displaying clothes. I just don't. I would like them to put out rugs.. It could really brighten up a room.

Yes that was the original behaviour, it seems now that they place hats and glasses on counter surfaces rather than the floor.

I'll have to check their homes later today and see if they've moved their things

Tbh, I'd rather they didn't display clothes at all. I gave Zucker a top that is in his preferred colour and style and he still just put it on a mannequin.

I'm upset. Willow's house is now ruined. She put the bow and barrette I gave her on top of her fireplace

Sorry, bunch of my villager's house were also ruined. Hoping the dataminers and placement guide people manage to figure out what was changed.

Makes me feel like whenever I give something nice to my family members and they say how much they love it.....only to never wear it! *rolls eyes*

I wonder if this changed behavior has had other effects. I don't see anyone with newly displayed hats (I still need to check Ribbot's house), but all of a sudden today two of my villagers put away their music players. That's not entirely new behavior though, and I suspect they'll be back in a day or two. But more interesting on my island is Sylvia. She just moved in and unpacked yesterday and thus I haven't had the chance to gift her anything yet, but today she put away both items on her ironwood shelf for seemingly no reason. I haven't seen anything like that before, and I hope she puts them back out.

Edit: yeah, Ribbot put his hard hat on top of his iron shelf. I guess it doesn't look terrible there, but now he won't wear it anymore. =/

That's interesting. I've never had new villagers (that I've never gifted) replace/move/put away items before. But I know that some sort of gifting triggered them putting away/moving items around. For example Marshal and his 10 something counter surface items are constantly being moved around and put away and put back in since I started gifting him clothing. Now he replaced two of his items (one of them being his music player) with glasses.

I gave them hats way before and they kept it on the floor, I don’t think it’s their new behaviour

Just reinforces my stance on gifting anything but fruit to my villagers.

I also never do requests or deliver gifts from other villagers.

Never will.

I never give them any furniture or clothes unless I think it will look good in their room or themself. And I don't bother doing bug or fish requests because they just junk up their room. Now I guess I will add all clothes to that list as well.

I never cared if villagers replaced stuff in their homes and always got them fish or gave them whatever they wanted from me, but I did find it odd they put their accessories on the floor, so I like this change.
