I want to hear what VC games that are out that people have a fond memory of! I'll start.
While most people would say, Mario, Legend of, Zelda, or Metroid, my memory starts before I could even get past world 2-2 of Super Mario Bros. I remember being three years old an playing Bubble Bobble onwith my mom on her NES. There wasn't one level that we didn't have a startegy for. We knew that game forwards, backwards, upside-down, right-side-up, inside-out and right-side-wrong. I remember my mom storming out of her room and grumbling, "Wanna play a game, Beakers?" (Which was my nickname, and still is.) She was frustrated because at the end of Bubble Bobble's one-player mode, upon defeating the final boss, the following mesage appears. "This is not a true ending. Play again with a friend."
This, of course, pissed my mom off to no end, because Her only option as player two was her three year old son. And the only game he could get far in was "Hide-and-Seek with Big Bird".
And so my training began. Once my mom got me holding the controller right-side-up, I was able to do fairly well. I got stuck on a couple of parts, but thats what the password function was for.
Unfortunately, our password for the final boss got thrown away, so we mhad to make it all the way there again. It took two days for me to become skilled enough to make it to the fianl boss, but on that second day, we made it. Unfortunately, I kept dying, so My mo took 20 minutes teaching me to "Watch his pattern." Once I figured out that that meant that each time we fight him, he continously moves in the same pattern until we die, we beat him. Easily. My mom yelled "Get him Beaker!" and I jumped up on the blocks and landed *SMACK* on his head!
I don't remember the ending, though, because we were too busy giving each other high fives and hugs and yelling "YAAAY!" then eating a root beer float that we didn't see it.
We didn't know at the time that there was a BEST ending that you can get once you make it through the "Super" mode (They give you the level 1 password for super mode at the end of the credits) without dying. (Because the passwords don't work in Super mode.)
14 years later, I dowloaded Bubble Bobble on my Wii.
I completely on accident discovered the password for the final level of Super Mode on the VC game, but mom just says, "We beat that game, Beak. Plus, I'm not coordinated enough to play those games anymore..."
So now, The legacy gets passed on to my brother. he isn't very good, (I was better when I was 3,) so we stopped trying.
I still don't know what Bubble Bobble's best ending is, but I do know that there couldn't possibly be a better beggining for me!
