What are your most optimistic and most pessimistic hopes for the direct?

Best case scenario:
Brewster and Roost for a few mins then the rest is additional new content. Not really picky, just want new stuff to do.
They announce more content/updates to come.

Worst case scenario:
They announce it's the last update.

My impossible dream:
The island size is somehow expanded or they make a ferry to a new section of island, which would allow for more room to terraform, more room for other villagers, and new personalities. Or they at least allow a 2nd island for a single Switch system.

They add a new level of friendship to reach with villagers that, once achieved, will upgrade that villager’s house. Maybe a basement or second floor, so that it doesn’t take up a larger footprint on the island, that follows and expands upon the theme of their current house.

Upgrade to Nook Store that allows Leif to be in there and selling his plants every day. Upgrade to Able Sisters that has Kicks there and selling shoes every day. Perhaps a new NPC added to the visitation rotation and adjustment so that Redd shows up a bit more often.

They finally find the perfect Amiibo release method that allows me to easily get the 8 villagers who don't have an Amiibo yet and any new ones I want without having to pay a premium to scalpers for authentic versions

My optimistic dream:
A handful of new villagers announced, at least one of which would be an awesome Sisterly. I would be nearly as happy with them re-introducing old villagers that aren’t in this version of the game and reclassifying a cool one to Sisterly. Old or new crossover characters would also be cool.

Kapp'n will have his island, fruit types, and mini games back
They would re-introduce the furniture sets from the old games
New platinum tools that are unbreakable
More dialogue added for each personality
Buying and crafting in bulk
More crops or flowers to grow
Models for the creatures you get while diving, like the models you can get for the fish and insects

My Pessimistic Nightmare:
The Roost and all other DLC now costs money. The Roost doesn’t include the coffee mini game, you are just able to order a drink there.

All the seasonal updates for the next year or so will be mentioned in this one Direct with no substantial additions, shown all at once because they are pretty much done with this game now.

Any leftover time shows all the Animal Crossing merchandise they’ve been making lately, like Animal Crossing pens and notebooks, rather than having any substantial upgrades to the game itself.

Hopes and dreams:
- Brewster’s cafe can be optionally integrated into the town as its own building
- 2-4 new villager slots
- more outdoor furniture in a variety of styles
- two new villager personalities and plenty of new dialogue for existing ones
- the ability to update villager home interiors at the highest friendship level
- optional buildings to be created and placed in town, with customizable interiors and exteriors like HHD
- an island to visit with something on it besides Harvey’s terrifying rooms
- activities with villagers, some they can initiate and some the player can initiate
- new fruits and tree styles
- custom shorts patterns
- all new villagers for series 5 amiibo cards

Pessimism edition:
- we heard you guys really wanted Brewster so we gave him 20 minutes of screen time. It’s a room where you can buy coffee and kind of walk in a little circle. Yay!

Happy thoughts:
- They're adding Brewster and the cafe in an update that goes live as soon as the direct ends.
- New decorations! So many of them, yes please!
- Remember that dock you've had on your beach for over a year? Kapp'n lives there now and brought minigames!
- A quick roadmap of future plans...
- Sneaky performance optimisations also included in the update. Less lag = more enjoyment!

Please don't:
- Welcome to the Nintendo Treehouse, today we'll be showcasing 20 minutes of exhilarating coffee making gameplay!
- P.S. even if it didn't rain yesterday, the floor is always gyroids. Happy digging!

I have long since given up being optimistic when it comes to Nintendo. The pessimistic side of me believes they will use the upcoming Direct as a way of raising more social media buzz while providing very little value to its fans.

I don't like making predictions but here's what I'd be happy and not happy with:

Optimistic:
-Minigame is improved for the Roost
-K.K. now performs at the Roost instead of blocking Resident Services
-Gyroids are added
-Some extra content that I wasn't expecting but will learn to love
-extra optimistic would be even just teasing that island minigames are coming back...

Pessimistic:
-Roost just has a basic minigame
-Majority of video is Kyogoku talking/filler content, almost nothing added but the Roost, seasonal items, and Amiibo cards

Optimistic:
- Gyroids return!
- Brewster has a very good minigame
- Several high-end prizes that you can obtain that don't take a single day to get
- Additional villagers for the next set of cards (like how NL added new villagers at a later date)
- Optional extra houses for villagers

Pessimistic:
- Brewster is a copy-paste of the previous game with nothing else
- New items are coffees only
- Most of the direct is just talking about how many people own AC / pointless rambling to take up video time

i'm trying to not get too wild even with my hopes for the best case scenario, but if it comes true it'll be good enough to rekindle some of my interest in the game.

best case scenario:
- part-time minigame returns to the roost, new café decor as reward for playing
- the roost now serves various pastries as well, you can buy these and gift your villagers who have individual preferences
- gyroids are back and can net you some hard-won exclusive furniture if you gift enough to brewster
- kk performs in the roost like in wild world, no more plaza-hogging
- nintendo shares some kind of roadmap of what they hope to add to NH before it's finished. no specific dates needed, i get that we're still in a pandemic and that impacts development time, but i'd really like to know if i should just stop hoping for certain things...

worst case scenario:
- all you can do in the roost is buy a coffee. that's it. enjoy.
- another smattering of seasonal items, 3-4 new holiday items

Optimistically they add all the furniture from previous games, as well as some of the furniture from Pocket Camp (PC has some awesome furniture), QoL updates such as being able to choose how many of an item to purchase instead of just 1 or 5 at a time, being able to fill up a basket in Able Sisters' dressing room and buy it all at once, improvement of villager dialogue, custom designs can't be wiped up unless in island designer mode, the ability to hop from dream to dream in the Dream Suite without having to wake up between each one, CUSTOMIZABLE FENCES, honestly I feel like I could continue but I'll stop there

Pessimistically... all they talk about is Brewster the whole time. (I like Brewster well enough I just don't care that much about The Roost; I can't see myself playing the game again daily if that's the only addition)

Pipe dream:
-All of the NL items return along with some new ones
-50 more QR code slots
-Nook’s Cranny update
-series 5 amiibo cards
- the datamined vegetables
-QOL updates

Pessimistic:
Just Brewster and some new Turkey day items.

I was going to make a bingo card for this direct, but a list will do.

Good stuff!
Gyroids are back!
Roost minigame from NL is back
Brewster sells little handheld pastries
New/Returning villagers
Small QoL improvements?
New furniture sets
New crops
Perfect Fruit returns (and dead trees)

Not so good stuff...
Direct is just 10 minutes explaining Brewster lore and 10 minutes on amiibo card lore.
They spend time talking about unchanged Turkey Day event.

My most pessimistic guess is that there will be zero QOL changes, and if there are QOL changes at all, they won't be the ones that matter.

Best case scenario, in my wildest most optimistic dreams, aka what will not happen lol:
  • Brewster is back with a charming cafe that also serves seasonal drinks (like, cocktail-looking tropical drinks in the summer LIKE THAT ONE you drink with everyone at the very beginning, hot chocolate in the winter, etc.). He allows you to help him out.
    • Rover and other NPCs - even ones you don't see otherwise, like the alpacas -- visit the cafe so you can chat with them.
    • KK performs here instead of outside. Other villagers come to listen and sit around at the tables.
    • Brewster serves cute snacks. You can have cute snacks to carry around or eat.
  • There is a new 'gyroid' exhibit in the museum that Brewster mans. He lets you store your gyroids with him. You can find gyroids in the rainy weather OR, alternatively, you can get DIYs for them by doing things with Brewster/finding them/et cetera. The gyroids are placeable outside, and when you drop them instead of placing them they are that little mini gyroid figure that appears when you 'drop' gyroids outside in NL.
  • Villagers can and will visit you in your home, either via scheduled dates to visit you or spontaneous. You can host multiple villagers over and request them to come over yourself. They will interact with your furniture.
  • Gracie Grace is back as a temporary vender, but she will eventually set up shop in an upgrade to the Nookling store. You have to do work for her in order to obtain this as in previous games.
    • Maybe upon unlocking her store, you are given the option for a 'credit card' as in City Folk so that you can make large purchases without having to carry around bells or withdraw/deposit from the ATM so often.
  • You can plant other food items such as root vegetables, maybe even some fruits, et cetera. The bananas return.
  • Due to increased responsibilities or whatever else, the airport no longer wants to have to control the mail. They recruit the pelicans instead, who either have a new booth in the airport or in Resident Services. The post office effectively returns with Pelly, Phyllis and Pete.
  • There are new furniture items -- including Gracie's furniture (see above), and a few of the most well loved sets from before (like the Rococo set).
  • Nook's gets an upgrade.
  • You can upgrade the room sizes of the side rooms in your home.
  • Villager dialogue upgrade.
  • Leif is given a permanent residence on the island somehow. With him is a greenhouse function in which you can store flower starts or something else. Alternatively -- this is a furniture item you can acquire from him.
  • Mini-games & kapp'n -- maybe Kapp'n has a resort that he takes you to, and this could be where other NPCs & their functions are as well as some mini-games.
  • Katrina returns as a rotating vendor.
  • The villagers have little jobs that they dress up for. Some of the functions of HHD are returned though in what way I do not know.
  • YOU CAN PAINT THE %&#! FENCES.
Worst case scenario:
  • Brewster's cafe is an automatic coffee machine at a booth, the bird himself is not there.
  • There are no gyroids.
  • No other NPCs return. And if they do, it's in some little once-off or sparing way like Rover did in the maze.
  • They spend the entire time talking about the new amiibo cards. Or even just more than 2 minutes talking about them at all.
  • No fence customization.
  • It is the last update that will ever be given and this is made clear in the direct.
