My Raymond has a vampire costume and I think it looks cute on him(the instant muscles suit is kinda funny looking though). I wouldn't say I limit the gift giving but I make sure what I give them looks good. I have had a couple void villagers with gifts and they looked fine. i am always leery about taking a gift from one villager to another(that's how Raymond got the instant muscles suit) but I never tell them no. It's furniture I don't usually do. Merry was the exception on that. Her house is a mash up of colors and styles. The outside is beautiful but the inside is not. I hate the wallpaper/floor but can't do anything about it. She had a green table and chairs that looked really bad but i got her to replace them with natural garden table/chairs. Sadly I can't get her to replace her green diy bench but at least it's not out all the time. I wish I could put her house in happy home designer, fix it and move it back. I do put furniture outside the houses sometimes, for example Raymond has a cat tree and cat grass and Cherry has a pink guitar and amp. And Molly has a basket of carnations and a kiddie pool.
i don't mind gifted villagers at all! and i love gifting my villagers, especially the ones i like the most (lol) because it's so cute seeing them in different jumpers and stuff. i am however kind of mindful about gifting villagers that i know i'm not going to keep on my island for very long/are more popular, because i know a lot of people are more bothered by gifting so if i know i'm going to try and sell the villager on i'll try and keep them more original
Personally I prefer ungifted and original villagers, it kinda bothers me a bit since I’m very picky about things. It would be pretty cool if we could edit villagers houses with furniture that we gifted them, I think I would gift them if that was an option.
In ACNH, you can buy, sell, auction, and gift villagers, dictate exactly where they live, and prevent them from ever leaving your island. It's disturbing that they're treated like commodities to be traded. I think it's immoral to participate in this system but if anyone has an original Kid Cat moving out please PM me.
I give all of my villagers thoughtful gifts (gifts I imagine they would want). Often it's just clothes or smaller items that go on a surface.
I'm not bothered if their houses are not original. I play the game like they're autonomous island-dwellers who are capable of picking what they like lol.
The only thing is, if I pass on a gift from one villager to another, I just sort of hope it's not a hot dog or mariarchi costume inside lol. But I always pass on the gifts anyway.
I don't trade villagers, and my friends use amiibos, so I feel safe giving my villagers a few different outfits I think will suit them. I like them to have a little wardrobe of choices - it feels weird to me to see them wearing the same clothes day after day! I don't tend to gift them anything for their homes though, unless I'm specifically tweaking their furniture. Their decorating skills are too random and out there!
Personally I dont mind it but it does annoy me when they comment on my clothes and say I keep wearing the same clothes. It's like look in the mirror mate
I would prefer as having a villager be as a close to being original as they can.
I once got Aurora from someone who said they were gifted and I was fine with it. There was one outfit that I liked that I had no problem with, but there was several more outfits that I just thought didn't work with her. She also had random stuff inside her house. I wanted her to stay, but everything was annoying me so much that I had to move her out and move in a clean, original version of her.
I like gifted villagers most of the time. It is really interesting to see their history. I'm just not a fan of the instant muscle suit or some custom clothing designs out there. The muscle suit I can deal with. But the custom designs are harder.
I absolutely love receiving gifted villagers! It makes them feel more personal to me, I guess? Sort of like they have a history attached, as opposed to being just another copy of the character.
I think it adds to the game and makes each animal more unique! If you get one from someone else’s town, they have a unique identity compared to a computer generated character which is kind of wholesome. And I like that my villagers wear clothes that I gave them. The only thing that annoys me is when they display a bug lol
i haven’t adopted any villagers from anyone else in new horizons nor do i have any plans to but gifted/unoriginal villagers have never bothered me! i’ve gotten all of my villagers myself and they’re always 100% original at the beginning but since i don’t mind delivering things to them, catching them critters or gifting them clothes/furniture, they’re never original for long lol. the only thing of theirs that doesn’t change is their catchphrase.
Before joining this forum, I honestly didn't know people cared so hard about "original" villagers.
I gift my villagers stuff all the time. Even the ones that I already have their picture, I just love seeing them in different clothes or seeing which ones they like to wear more. And the ability to put them in hats in this game... I love it.
I don't really get villagers from other people, neither friend nor stranger. I would honestly love if I got someone from another island, to see what fun stuff they had been given.
I always thought this was one of the big features of this game, I don't get why people hate it so much.
I give my villagers so many random items. First, I give the fruit until they give me the photo. I do this because all villagers love fruit so I don't need to know a villager's fav clothing style or whatever. Afterwards I give them whatever I feel like..from throwback figurines to sea bass.
It never bothers me to adopt gifted villagers because I think it adds more depth to them in my eyes... I miss how they used to remember their old towns in NL and how they even remembered you if you saw them in a friend's town or in a Dream. So I think their unique wardrobes add to their personality
Yeah sometimes it's really bad but there are some pretty funny surprises too, especiality with clothing
I take dressing my own villagers very seriously, and I love picking out stuff for them to wear, that's one NH addition that I'm very grateful for!
And as far as messing up their houses go, if Nintendo ever puts the Flea Market back in the game I think messing up someone's house wouldn't be such a big deal since you could just buy the weird out-of-place stuff back, I (unfortunately) still have hope lol
I always get my villagers through island hopping or scanning in an amiibo rather then adopting them so don't have any villager that has been gifted clothes/items by someone else but I do enjoy giving my own villagers gifts.
I'll generally give more items to my permanent villagers as they're the ones I'm most attached to and I always put more thought into what I give them so they receive clothes I think will suit them or items that fit well in their homes. I used to also always deliver gifts between my villagers but I don't do that as much anymore as often the gifts they give each other don't really suit them, especially when it's a clothing item, so I now like to just stick to choosing the gifts myself so they receive something more meaningful.
For whatever reason, it doesn't really matter to me all that much whether a villager is gifted or not. I just like having the characters I like. I think there's some charm to seeing them in clothes people who liked them too picked out for them though.
Fake amiibo cards are affordable enough so i prefer to just get villagers either that way or by chance via the mystery islands. I'm okay with giving my villagers pretty much anything but the idea of getting a gifted villager from someone else is a lil weird to me. Idk why, it just is!
However back in the days of ACNL I would have accepted gifted villagers, I don't think fake amiibo cards were big back then because I certainly didn't know about them at the time.
