I had to abandon the game last May and have been pretty much out of the loop with all things Animal Crossing.

Curious to hear what all has changed since Spring 2020, and what changes you were most excited about!

Basically.
What did I miss?! 🎶

Adding Pumpkins was probably the most exciting thing for me, for being a completely new concept and adding something to do and work towards over the span of a few weeks. Add to that the good number of new items and a new customisation method too, all available to buy or craft, to decorate before the Halloween event, really felt like a fleshed out and motivating holiday.
Though I really expected this farming angle to have more than just 1 plant by now.

The only single thing besides adding back features that should have already been in the game, like Leif, art, and diving, was the puppies.

I haven't found any useful furniture item in this game, or in any updates.

Useless wands and plastic garbage.

Just give us the NL items.

The Sanrio items, to me, are also unusable plastic kiddie items.

JMO.

My favourite update was probably the first Summer 2020 update which added diving and Pascal back to the game which I really liked as he is one of my favourite NPCs and it bought Gullivarrr into the game, his dialogue can get a bit tiring but the pirate themed items were a great addition.

In regards to new DIYs and in-game events though I really like the Fall and Winter updates, I love the mushroom DIY series and use them a lot around my island and I enjoyed the Turkey Day event while the illuminated DIY series from the Winter update looked really good around the island during the snowy months.

Diving was the most exciting addition for me; it's tedious, but integral to any island setting, and it added a whole new mechanic.

They haven’t added much of anything besides the events, and they’ve been very lacklustre in my opinion, other than that they’ve added.
Redd + art section in museum
Hedges and bushes + Leif (my favourite update)
Diving + pascal + gullivarrr
Pumpkins

That’s such a shame—I was really expecting some fun and substantial changes by now. New content, quality of life etc. Being a year in sadly begs the question of when—if at all—these will happen.

@John Wick
I’d been hoping for more new (and reintroduced) furniture, so I’ll admit that’s a bit disheartening to hear.
However. Puppies? I’ll have to look this up!

It's not, like, out yet but adding the Sanrio villagers and furniture is definitely my favourite addition. I know it's all just a ploy to sell more of their Amiibo cards but I looooove their furniture sets and this does open the potential for future updates involving the Amiibo villagers like Wolf Link and maybe even bringing back the RV-exclusive furniture from the Welcome Amiibo update, which would be cool (Even if time-consuming...)

I really liked having the pumpkins to grow. It would be nice if they added more veggies in future updates. The kids toys like the puppies and kids tents from the December update. It’s nice they brought back redd and diving even though they should have already been there.
I am excited and not excited about the Sanrio update. Excited about the furniture and villagers but not about how they are bringing them back.

Diving for sure. When I first started I wanted to swim in the water so bad! It’s so pretty and this time we have an island instead of a traditional town. We should be able to swim right?? It is tropical themed. I was so annoyed when I found out otherwise.

I agree, the pumpkins are nice! Just really wish they'd expand on that and have a few crops every season. Even just for aesthetic purposes... it'd be nice to have a garden. Strawberry plants, please!

My favorite update so far was the diving update (for the mermaid set) and really looking forward to the Sanrio one. Halloween was my favorite holiday, I think. Even though it's not my favorite in real life, the atmosphere and decorations were nice, especially the fence. Turkey Day has a couple nice items as well, but not my favorite event.

The updates have been pretty lackluster for the most part. The event furniture aren't the most versatile. Really curious to see if Bunny Day will have anything new added or not... probably not, but hoping for something.

The ones that offered new daily content.
  • 1.2 with the release of Redd,
  • 1.3 with the release of swimming, and
  • 1.4 with the Dream Suite.

Out of all of them though, the v1.4 is probably the best as I love that we can all share our islands with each other via dreams. It also came with Sunday night fireworks for August

The ones that stood out to me are the May Day Event and the Halloween event. Those are the only times when the game actually was interesting. Then by December 2020 I got bored.

I feel like the first update was definitely the best one and it is yet to be topped. The wedding furniture is by far the most gorgeous set this game has and I love the pastel pinks and blues it has and it was a cute event overall, albeit not greatly implemented imo (it was tedious after a while). It also added so much like bushes and art, so I've definitely been using most of the first update's items the most. Other than that, I do hope they deliver much more with the following updates, I still want white cute lil fences. 🥺

My favorite is the diving update. I’ve always wanted to swim in animal crossing. When I was a kid I used to have dreams about swimming in my WW town. I didn’t play NL, so the whole update was new and very exciting for me.

I adore nautical furniture so much that it was the summer update part 1 that really did it for me to get fully invested into this game. The mermaid and pirate items are so wonderful that I had a blast decorating my house

I liked the Halloween update with the pumpkins, new diys and the reactions. I felt like that was the most interactive event where more people were playing with each other and opening their islands up for candy-buying.
