I think Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch is a unique opportunity to introduce new mechanism to the fold. Considering the limitations of the previous consoles Animal Crossing was on, I understand some choices had to be made, but with the power of the Nintendo Switch, we need an overhaul of the art style. That's one. I don't want New Leaf HD, I think that would be underwhelming.
But most of all, if we are going to get an expanded town, we need to have a seamless one. I don't want to change screens to get to the service and stores area of the town : it should be incorporated into the town itself. Yes, it means two things : randomizing the generation of the town will be trickier for the Nintendo programmers. It also means Isabelle, Leif, Tom Nook, the Nooklings, the two owls and so on will need to get homes of their own. The good thing about it is : you will now see them wander around town and commute to their store/house before and after the work hours. That would add to the liveliness of this quirky simulation.
Also, please make villager's homes a municipal project. If you want more villagers moving in, great ! You just need to build more houses. This also means that when a villagers moves out of town, the house doesn't disappear, it just becomes empty.
This could lead to new tasks regarding the villagers' house. For example, after moving out, a villager left some item behind for you to pick up or to get back to him at the next town he moved to. Since I'm sure ACfNS will use the NS Online service, you could receive a letter by the mail requesting you get back that item to them, telling you where this villager moved to. Another great example : since a villager's home decor reflects his personality, his own tastes, moving into an already built house means the house will not be to his liking. That villager could then ask you to help him renovate his house so it matches his/her own tastes. Last example, since the house is prebuilt- it also means the villager moving won't quash your flower garden by just dropping his house on top of it.
A few ideas I had. Feel free to improve them or just badmouth them.
