What is the meaning behind your island name?

I named mine spring after a musical I like.
I named my second island autumn because its the opposite of spring.
I'm inventive

Enoki is a kind of mushroom. At the time I was obsessed with the mushroom tent in pocket camp and for some reason made "mushroom" my entire identity. I think the name is really cool though so shout out to the mush tent lol

Elfhame is the name of a faerie island in my favorite fantasy series, The Folk of the Air ^^ ♡

Havendrift. No real meaning behind it, but I was just trying find a way to put an island twist on my New Leaf town named Foghaven (also no meaning behind that either, just something I thought sounded nice).

My island name is Shywine.

Honestly, I used a name generator because I couldn't think of anything. It generated Shywine, and I was actually drinking some wine at that time hehe. My husband & I found it funny so that's the story of how I named my island. :')

Fiddlehead. I love to garden irl and these little goobers of a fern are always a must have for me, so I decided to name this island after them. My last few islands were named Morchella (the name for the Morel mushroom) and that's because morels are one of my favorite mushrooms to forage for. I live in Washington so.... allot of fires the past few years.

(should mention this, though every baby fern looks like a fiddlehead Ostrich ferns are the edible ones I grow o-o Don't eat wild ferns without knowing the species :p )

Mine is pretty simple, I named my island "Emerald" because green is my favorite color and I just like how the world emerald sounds. Plus fun fact, since emeralds with a high purity are hard to find, they become more rare and in some cases more expensive than diamonds.

Welcome to Faebelle! A tiny island packed full of stories just waiting to be written!

In truth, I based this name on what I thought ACNH was going to include. Remember all the fairytale themed items from previous games and the new ones introduced in Pocket Camp? Well silly me, but I thought NH was going to include all those items and include the feature to change the style of you house. My island was going to be fairy tale themed, which lead me to the first part of the name "Fae". But what about the second half? Well, I thought of other fairy tale village names, and I remembered Belleville. I combined the two and I really liked it!

You have "Fae" for fairy tales, "belle" like the in game currency, and the whole name together sounds like "fable" which often means stories with cute animals. Perfect for a fairy tale themed animal crossing island! But now it's just a bunch of little scenes from various movies and things and less specifically fairy tale.

honestly, mine doesn’t really have any meaning behind it. “axolotl” wasn’t my first choice but i instantly fell in love with it when i saw it in an island name idea thread and went with it! although, i really like axolotls + dr. shrunk is one of my favourite npcs so i suppose that could be the meaning. ;P

Flexmont. Basically "flex mountain".

My island was supposed to have jocks only or villagers with fitness hobbies only. Originally aimed to be a gym/sports/fitness island. But I love a lot of villagers that don't fit the theme, so I discarded the idea.

Well, I originally wanted to name my island Echo Island, but it didn't fit the character limit and I had to come up with something else on the spot (I downloaded and played the game on its release day). I went with Maui because I knew I wanted my island theme to be a tropical paradise while being mostly natural (and jungle-y), similar to the real life island of Maui in Hawaii. I've been to Hawaii in real life and had a life changing experience there, so I guess thats why "Maui" immediately came to mind. Plus I am a huge fan of the tv show Lost which was filmed mostly on Maui.

my island is called clementine, because I really like oranges. I've themed the island around oranges in many ways, including that I have oranges as my native fruit. I also have a special place in my heart for clementine the character in the walking dead video game series. that has always given the name clementine an extra bitter-sweetness for me.

fun fact: I made an island called clementine at launch and eventually reset, keeping the name. the first time I picked my island I had to reset many times to get the orange native fruit. when I reset in November the first map I picked had orange fruit and is the map that I play on today.

it's so neat to see how people come up with names :3

I wrote a (very) long post about why I chose the name for my island here:

But basically, it's called Cloudhaven to remind me to be relaxed in my approach to the game. "Haven" because it's a safe, peaceful place, and "cloud" because clouds are always right, even though they're changing constantly and always different--all of their states of being are beautiful and correct, therefore, my island is always just right, no matter what I do with it.

My island’s name is Æthryéron. It’s a combination of a Latin word and a Greek word: Æther, which means sky, air, or heaven in Latin, and ἱερός (hieros), which means sacred, in the accusative declension ἱερόν (hierón) because it sounded better. :) Æther comes from the Greek word αἰθήρ (aither) which has the same meaning as its Latin counterpart, too.
Now that my island‘s name’s etymology is clear, I can explain what it means. Æthryéron is a holy heaven, hidden in the middle of a mysterious lake (I know it should the ocean by the game‘s lore but I like to think it’s a lake), where you can live freely and serenely, away from the world’s worries. Both words, æther and ἱερός, convey a feeling of protection, which fits perfectly my island’s theme. :D

my island name is Crescentia, i honestly just wanted an aesthetic and unique name, was initially gonna go for Celestia as that is my new leaf town name before but its a pretty common name so i just combined Crescent + Celestia thus making Crescentia which i really really like

I have two islands, Tarasaigh (main island) and Eynhallow (2nd island). Both are abandoned islands off the coast of Scotland. I knew I wanted my island to be named after an abandoned island, so I scoured the internet looking for them, and found a few I liked, whittled them down to two, and my bunny choose Tarasaigh. My 2nd island was originally Embermere, and then I reset, and again, tried to find an abandoned island I like the look of and eventually found Eynhallow, and fell in love with the folklore behind it.

Tarasaigh: Tarasaigh is the Gaelic for the island Taransay, it's in the Outer Hebrides and was used for the 1990's TV show Castaway, which had TV presenter Ben Fogel on it. The island has been uninhabited since 1974, and is privately owned. Ben Fogel wanted to buy the island when it came up for sale in 2011, having honeymooned there, and he wanted to turn it into a bird sanctuary, but he was unsuccessful. It was up for £2.2 million and was sold privatley.

Eynhallow: Eynhallow is within Orkney in the upper north of Scotland, and can only be visited once per year through the Orkney Heritage Society. The island has a history with Fin Folk, with Guidman o' Thorodale having driven them away. The island was the summer residence of the Fin Folk, and they took Guidman's wife. He vowed when his 2 sons were old enough to get his revenge on them, and when the boys were of age, they set out to drive the Fin Folk away, they were eventually successful, and a church was then erected on the island, and it was given the name Eynhallow, which means Holy Island.

Mine is Echo, but there isn't one reason I chose to call it that, but more a bunch of things that contributed. First, I just like the way it sounds. Second, the song Echo Beach came into my head when I found out it was going to be an island, and I'd hear my dad play that song growing up. Third, I remember playing a game called "Ecco the dolphin" when I was young. 🤣 Again, on the island theme! And finally fourth, I loved my NL town so much, and imagined my character basically moving to my NH island from that NL town, and it being a repeat or an "echo" of my previous AC life.
