I really hope that Animals don't have the emotion range like a melon like in the latest titles. I liked the range it had in earlier titles, where characters would get angry. It felt...real.

I actually don?t mind the toned down Cranky personalities in New Leaf, myself. I know I?m in the minority here but my villagers fuming at me or yelling for reasons I didn?t understand always gave me a little bit of anxiety as a kid, so I can?t say I have a soft spot for it.

As for potential new personalities, I think pessimistic (think Eeyore) villagers would be cute. Very shy villagers would also be nice to see, and maybe a cool, aloof one? Like smug without the flamboyance?

Agreed! I'm all for villagers being a little bit more snarky and pessimistic, but I really don't want them to yell at me for no reason. It'd make me feel so bad lol.

I'd prefer something closer to the original Animal Crossing, though maybe not quite there so as to avoid complaints.

I would like to have the dialog like we had in WW. I am finding that the personalities in NL are just bland and sound all the same. WW had a lot more variety, which I loved.

Didn’t they say there would be no new personalities? (don’t mean to rain on anyones parade here) Because that would give them more of a chance to ‘flesh’ out the character personalities.

Yep, they said that there will be no new personalities, but I think this thread is about the already existing
personalities and how they should be in the new game, if I understand it right?

Nothing against those people who liked how the personalities were in New Leaf, but I couldn't stand
them at all and I really hope they not gonna water them down again in New Horizons. I miss those
days where villagers were mean to you, where they actually representing their personalities, where
cranky villagers were cranky and snooty villagers were snooty. In New Leaf, every personality felt
so similar with each other, they were way to friendly to you, didn't showed any kind of anger or
sadness and when they did then only for a second and everything was fine again afterwards. Not
to mention their dialogues, which were more enjoyable to read in the previous games, since those
also had more variety.

Overall, I hope they gonna back to the roots in NH and built out the personalities, making them
as they were before New Leaf was a thing.

I like the cranky characters more now than I did in the older titles, haha. I wouldn't be opposed to new personality types but I would value more fleshed out dialogue options more!

I would like to see more variety and uniqueness within the existing personalities. Since everyone is talking about cranky villagers, I'll use them as an example. I think it would be cool if there were some that were more similar to the old crankies, and some that were more toned down and "nicer" like the newer crankies.

It would also be great if villagers had certain hobbies and interests that were unique to that character. For example, if some peppy villagers want to be pop stars, but others want to work in television or be movie stars. I would also like if they all had favorite colors, foods, drinks that they would actually stick to as being their favorite. Of course there would have to be some overlap, but I think this would all help each villager feel like an individual.

I actually kinda think that the villager personalities would have their personality interests in chats to a minimum. I mean, all you hear about Lazies, is that almost every single talk you have with them has to involve food. Same with Normals, they're obsessed with books and WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT BOOKS!

Maybe if they'd tone down their interests in their personalities and start thinking of more unique things to say, they'd be more "Interesting" to talk to instead of being a broken record.

I think it'd be cool if the npcs had more unique personalities, like not necessarily the personality groups, but the characters themselves
kinda like how in happy home designer their houses made it seem like they were more unique, instead of every single lazy only cares about eating and every single normal only cares about books

I understand there are like hundreds of villagers so it'd be kind of a pain, but would still be cool

That's kind of the problem I have with their hobbies right now too. I was just thinking if instead of all normals repeating the same exact dialog about books all of the time, maybe some could be reading focused, while other normals could be more into baking or gardening instead. I would definitely want there to be more depth to what they talk about though. I think it would be awesome if, as you got to know them their dialog evolved. For example, maybe a villager would talk about wanting to take up baking as a hobby. As you befriend them maybe you hear about failures and successes along the way. If each personality had few separate interests maybe it wouldn't get stale as fast. Like lazies could be into food, comics, or video games, etc.

But I definitely see what you're saying too. I think it's very unlikely we'd get as much unique dialogue as we'd hope for. In that case I'd rather not have every single normal talking about books nonstop.

I'd just like personalities to be a little more distinguishable. I miss when cranky villagers were actually mean.
